FREE school membership to those that sign up at www.csiet.org/join.

CSIET is no longer conducting a bulk mailing of the Advisory List to all U.S. high schools. Instead, only the schools that sign up to be a part of the Online School Community will receive a free copy of the 2011-2012 Advisory List.

4th National School Conference on International Youth Exchange

• It’s not too late to attend the 2011 National School Conference on International Youth Exchange, please register with Rizwan Hasan.

• The agenda will be a one-day schedule. Sessions include: Best Practices in Global Education, DHS Recertification, “The Global Classroom at Work” and “Creating a Roadmap for Global Education”

• CSIET will co-sponsor with Global Washington, iEARN, One World Now and WA State Department of Public Instruction.

Publications

• Used by public and private schools when looking for reputable youth exchange programs.

• Provides useful information on listed organizations, visas regulations and program procedures.

• Used by school administrators to better understand how youth exchange programs operated and what to expect of reputable exchange programs and tips on making exchange students feel welcome.

• Provides information on financial aid, scholarship and U.S. government exchange opportunities.

•New version to be published in FY 12!

Model School PoliciesInbound and Study Abroad Programs

• Developed in partnership with the secondary-school community to assist American schools in the process of administering successful international student exchange programs.

• Developed with valuable input from individual high school administrators, exchange program managers, and national advocates for youth exchange, the MSP provides a foundation for local school policies and encourages U.S. schools to engage in international youth exchange programs.

• Developed with valuable input from the School Outreach Working group (SOW) and the CSIET Board of Directors to assist exchange programs in making the case for reputable Youth Exchange.

Global Classrooms Awards

Awards program to recognize schools that actively support international youth exchange.

Looking for schools that promote school-wide feelings of inclusiveness and global curiosity while hosting international exchange students or encouraging their students to travel and study abroad.

Online Database of State and Local Policies

• CSIET maintains an online Database of State and Local Policies, with updates uploaded each month.

• Compilation of statewide, district/school, and athletic/activities association policies pertaining to foreign exchange student programs.

• Since September, the database has grown to hold over 1,150 policies related to foreign youth exchange.

School Survey Feedback

• In early September, CSIET surveyed its extended school network to gain feedback on the 2011 placement cycle and CSIET school outreach activities.

Possible New Approaches

• Study Abroad Fairs • Presentations and workshops at

school/educational conferences (ASCA, ACTFL, NAIS, NASSP…)

• Renewed-focus on state and local advocacy (Adoption of Model School Policy)

• Identify state and local outreach opportunities, identify speaking opportunities and enlist program reps to advocate for MSP.
