If you have ever been interested in woodworking and are looking for a great place to start, this is it. Familiarize yourself with different pieces of woodshop equipment and how to use them safely. Begin by choosing one of five custom sign design projects, and then complete your sign by learn how to build frames and distress using chisels, scrapers, and worm holing. Additional activities will include: staining, painting, chalk painting, glazing and various finishes. Leave class with a handy new skill set as well as a new one of a kind sign to take home. WOODWORKING PROJECTS: CRIBBAGE BOARD AND GAME NIGHT

Dates: July 8 - 12 Days: Monday - Friday Time: 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Location: Canyon 133 Instructor: Jessica Larsen Fee: $80+$25 supply fee This is a class for anyone who wants to learn the basics of woodworking, have little to no shop experience, or are intimidated by power tools and

want to step out of their comfort zone to create a fun, easy project. Cribbage is quite possible the best game that has ever existed. Together in class we will start a cribbage board from scratch and turn raw lumber into a beautiful cribbage board. If we have time at the end of class, we will have a tournament to try out our new boards. In the class, students will learn safety procedures as well as basic woodworking concepts that include machining, joinery, sanding, distressing and some fun finishing techniques.

SHOTOKAN KARATE-BEGINNERS WELCOME! Dates: June 3 – August 26 Days: Mondays & Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. & Saturdays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Location: Gym Rec Center 236 Instructor: Jesse Clark Ages: Adult and Youth 14+ Fee: $80 + plus $25 for gi Karate is an excellent way to help develop coordination, confidence, physical fitness, and mental strength while gaining valuable social skills. Shotokan Karate of America

(SKA) has been teaching traditional Karate in the USA since 1955. SKA was founded by Tsutomu Ohshima who was one of Master Funakoshi’s last direct pupils, studying under him while attending Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. Because of SKA’s strong resolve to offer high-quality martial arts to the public, SKA has remained non-commercial and non-profit and continues to offer authentic, traditional martial arts instruction at affordable rates through more than 140 dojos across the United States and Canada with affiliates worldwide. Mr. Ohshima granted Instructor Jesse Clark permission to instruct SKA in Twin Falls in 2011. Jesse Clark, sandan (3rd degree black belt), is the CSI head Karate and self-defense instructor for CSI. INTRO TO WELDING & METAL ART Dates: Wednesdays, June 8 – July 6 or Fridays, July 12 – August 16 Time: 6 – 8:30 p.m. Location: Desert 105 Instructor: Jenn Crowdson Fee: $110 Explore the technology of metal fabrication and welding to create a metal piece that will become something beautiful and durable… or just to brush up on your skills and work on a specific project or art piece! During this hands-on course,

students will be introduced to shop safety, two welding processes (arc welding and mig welding), grinding, different methods of metal cutting(plasma, oxy/fuel torch, cold saw, and disk cutting), and a variety of metal coloring techniques (paint, chemical, heat coloring) to create a finished project to take home at the end of the 20+ hour course. Students need to come dressed in clothes appropriate for welding such as jeans, leather shoes/boots, and long-sleeved shirts of canvas or cotton. Loaner welding helmets, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirators, leather jackets, and gloves will be loaned to students if needed. The class is limited to 10 people and normally fills – early registration is suggested.

THE “NEW” CSI MUSICFEST! Ages: 12 and up CSI Fine Arts Center June 10 – 14 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Fee: $230 Do you love music? No matter your experience level, CSI MUSICFEST is the place for you! This week-long summer camp on the beautiful College of Southern Idaho campus provides opportunities for you to be immersed in music making. Focused study is available in strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, jazz, and voice. The daily

schedule includes seven hours of hands-on instruction laid out to thoroughly engage students from beginning to end. Exceptional faculty from across the state work closely with you in small and large ensemble settings, as well as in daily master classes and sectionals. The listening lab brings theory and history of music to life! Each afternoon, students have the chance to shine alongside their faculty mentors at the camp’s performance spotlight. Private lessons and a wide range of elective areas are available to round out the camp experience. The week’s learning culminates with student recitals and a Gala concert for friends, family, and community to enjoy. CSI MUSICFEST promises to be an unforgettable experience where students build life-long friendships through the power of music making!

CSI/IDAA SUMMER DANCE CAMP INTENSIVE Ages: 12 – 18 CSI Campus July 21 – 26 (One Week) or July 21 – 31 (Ten Day) 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Fee: $300 (One Week) or $430 (Ten Day) CSI Dance Camp provides intensive training to students ages 12 and up who have had a minimum of two consecutive years of dance. Students choose their schedules and take five to seven hours

of class per day in ballet, jazz, funk, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, modern, musical theatre, improvisation, and pilates. The camp features an impressive guest faculty of professional dancers and dance instructors from all over the country. At the end of the day, all the hard work is offset with fun and exciting downtime activities. There is a $50 late fee for signups after July 1.

JUST DANCE FOR JUNIORS Ages: 9 – 11 CSI Fine Arts Center July 27 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Fee: $95 This special day camp is designed to introduce younger students to the concept of an intensive workshop. No dancing experienced required! The camp features the same instructors as the regular camp -a guest faculty from around the United States, bringing a wealth of talent and knowledge

to assure each student achieves their highest potential. The day will include an array of such classes as ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and hip hop.

CSI THEATRE CAMP Ages: 10 – 18 CSI Fine Arts Center June 24 – 28 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Fee: $215 or $240 after June 7 At CSI Theater Camp, students will have the opportunity to expand their skills in everything from acting and musical theater to set design and costuming in a fun and immersive environment! The camp features an impressive guest faculty of theater professionals from all over the country who bring a wealth of talent and knowledge to

assure each student achieves their highest potential. Students will choose from different tracks, ranging from classes designed for younger students who don’t have theater experience to advanced classes geared toward older students who have studied theater or have been in productions who would like to expand their knowledge and skills through a more challenging curriculum. Classes taught by working theater professionals (many of whom had their start right here in the Magic Valley!) include, but are not limited to: acting, auditioning skills, musical theater, choreography, vocal development, make-up, costuming, set design, lighting, and prop

construction. Each day will end with a rehearsal for the end-of-camp show which will be performed Friday night for friends and family! This special production will build on the skills the campers learned in their classes throughout the week and give them a chance to shine on the stage. Camp Directors Shane Brown and James Haycock have more than 40 years’ experience teaching and working in theater and run the CSI and Twin Falls High School Theater Programs.

CSI JUNIOR THEATRE CAMP Ages: 6 – 9 CSI Fine Arts Center July 15-17 1 – 5 p.m. Fee: $65 This three-day afternoon camp, a companion to the regular CSI Theatre Camp, is designed to introduce younger students (ages 6 through 9) to the world of theatre. No experience required! Campers will learn about concepts of drama through games and storytelling. They will learn the basics of what goes into a play -who does

what, stage direction, how to express your emotions through performing, stage voice basics, and movement. Camp Director Julie Nordstrom has loved theatre since she was 6 years old. She studied Theatre at CSI and BSU. She is a certified teacher in Elementary Education and Drama and currently teaching drama to Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Shoshone

CAMP MASTERPIECE Grades: 1-8 Shields 108-110 June 17 - 21 OR June 24 – 28 Times: 9 – 11:30 a.m. Fee: $135 Camp Masterpiece is the College of Southern Idaho's summer art camp. In Camp Masterpiece, young artists will discover a world of inspiration and creativity through open-ended, age-appropriate art lessons in drawing, painting, and sculpture. We will explore different media working on these projects as students learn

various art techniques. Better yet, in this camp, visual and performing arts are combined with play, games and a snack, and the week will culminate in an art show and a performance. A Camp Masterpiece apron is included

CSI HIGH SCHOOL ART INTENSIVE Grades: 9-12 Art Complex June 3-7 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $225 The CSI High School Art Intensive is a weeklong introduction to the 2D arts at the College of Southern Idaho. This Camp is designed for students entering grades 9-12 who are interested in Fine Arts and what

CSI has to offer potential students. Over the course of a week, students will be introduced to a

sampling of all that the photographic medium has to offer. This Camp will include digital, darkroom and alternative photographic processes. Students in this Art Intensive Camp will also learn about the “cultural language” within visual art. Understanding this language will help you create more thoughtful work, but also connect you with other artists and their agendas across all the fine art mediums. We will photograph in some fashion the rest of our lives, so let’s get together and do it better! If you are interested in this creative outlet over the summer, this Intensive is a perfect way of discovering self-expression and what a photograph can be! A cell phone, walking shoes, notebook and pen is all that’s required for the Camp. If you’d rather use your point & shoot or DSLR camera, please feel free! Camp Director Ben Lustig holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photographic Mediums from East Carolina University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication from the University of South Dakota. He taught at East Carolina University and Pitt Community College in Greenville, North Carolina before coming to CSI to teach in the Visual Arts Department. He teaches all digital and darkroom photography sections, but also the Appreciation and History of Photography courses. Ben also lectures on photography while maintaining a studio practice focusing on the photographic mediums and the idea of landscape.

CSI KITCHEN ACADEMY – SANDWICHES Ages: 9 – 12 CSI Culinary Arts Kitchen June 10 – 14 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. OR 2 – 5 p.m. Fee: $139 Calling all Junior Chefs to come and experience the Art of sandwich making! At Kitchen Academy, we help our students learn, develop, and sharpen their culinary skills. We believe it is important for children to build their confidence in the kitchen. They learn important lessons about safety, quality ingredients, math skills, reading, and eating well

that will stay with them throughout their lives. Join us as we make some Japanese-inspired sandwich toasts, club sandwich, grilled cheese pickle panini, sandwich on a stick, cauliflower crusted grilled cheese, and an apple, ham, and cheddar melt. We will include quick housemade pickles, a variety of spreads, and choosing the right bread. On the final day of our class you will get to create your own unique sandwich! Come join us.

CSI KITCHEN ACADEMY - COOKING AROUND THE WORLD Ages: 9 – 12 CSI Culinary Arts Kitchen July 8 – 12 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 2 – 5 p.m. Fee: $139 Calling all Junior Chefs! We will be traveling around the world discovering cuisine from France, Italy, Poland, and Colombia. From France, we will make a crespeou, a clafoutis and Quiche. The trip to Italy will include making fresh pasta, calzones and meatball minestrone Soup.

Poland will feature pierogies, ciasto malinowe z kruszonka (Polish raspberry crumble cake), and placki ziemniaczane, otherwise known as potato pancakes. Our final destination is Colombia, South America! (Our Academy Director was a foreign exchange student there in the 1970s.) You will learn how to make pandebono, or Colombian Cheese Bread, arroz con pollo (chicken

Come join us on an International Adventure that includes your personal passport with information about the different cultures and family life and new phrases for you to share with your family and friends. Our Kitchen Academy is a perfect place for students to develop, build upon, and sharpen their culinary skills as they progress through the week. They learn important lessons about safety, quality ingredients, math skills, reading, etiquette, table settings, proper food handling, team work, and culinary creativity as they travel the world through food. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

CSI SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP 2019 - YOUNG EXPLORERS Grades: K – 7 Shields & Hepworth Bldgs July 22 – 26 9 – 11:30 a.m. Fee: $80 Are you a young Einstein? Like to design like Leonardo Da Vinci? Curious like Marie Curie? Come explore with us and you may dive the ocean deep, do arctic activities, or shoot for the

moon and beyond! Our exploration knows no bounds as we journey to parts unknown. Join us for CSI Science Camp 2019 – Young Explorers - where CSI instructors and area science teachers lead students in hands-on science activities covering a variety of subjects guaranteed to excite their imaginations, spark their creativity, and teach them about all things science.

BASIC LITTLE ROBOTITIONS ROBOTICS CAMP Ages: 6 – 8 Fine Arts 164 August 6-7 or August 8-9 9 – 11 a.m. Fee: $55 In Little Robotitions Robotics Camp, younger students will learn new skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding using the LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics kits and software. In this camp, students learn the important 21st century skill of programming the intuitive way

– by bringing their adorable creations to life. What parents love, and the students don’t realize, is they are also sharpening computational thinking skills like logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and modeling simulations. In Little Robotitions Robotics Camp, children are empowered to ask the right questions, define problems, and design their own solutions by putting scientific discovery in their own hands. They'll also learn gracious professionalism from the valley's own award-winning 5026 Tesla Coils FTC Robotics Team. Class sizes are limited to 10 kids per session.

ADVANCED LITTLE ROBOTITIONS CAMP Ages 6-8 Fine Arts 164 August 13-14 or August 15-16 9 – 11 a.m. Fee: $70 REQUIREMENT FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE ADVANCED LITTLE ROBOTITIONS CAMP - COMPLETION OF THE BASIC LITTLE ROBOTITIONS CAMP IN 2018 OR 2019. This Beginner EV3 Robotics camp is open to all boys and girls interested in applying science, technology, engineering, and math while learning real-world problem solving skills and

gracious professionalism from the valley's own award-winning 5026 Tesla Coils FTC Robotics Team. Space is limited to the first 24 registrations.

ADVANCED EV3 ROBOTICS CAMP Ages: 9 – 14 Fine Arts 164 August 14-16 12:30 – 4 p.m. Fee: $155 In the Advanced EV3 Robotics Camp, students will use LEGO MINDSTORM EV3 robotics kits to design and build programmable robots using motors, sensors, gears, wheels, axles, and other technical components. They will learn how to understand and interpret two-dimensional drawings

to create three-dimensional models and gain practical, hands-on experience using mathematical concepts such as estimating and measuring distance, time, and speed. They'll learn gracious
