Allocation schemes
§ Preparatory Projects § can be submitted at any time, no restrictions are applied, they can start within 72 hours
§ Production Projects can be submitted twice per year with allocation period starting on April 1 and October 1 § Small: request up to 38’000 node hours (to pass only technical review) § Large: >38’000 node hours (full reviewing process)
§ Development Projects § Small: can be submitted at any time, they start within 6 weeks (≤ 38’000 node hours) § Large: same procedure as for the production projects
§ High Memory Projects § can be submitted at any time, no restrictions are applied, the resource request cannot be
excessive due to the limited size of the high memory system

Who can apply?
Proposers must hold at least the position of post-doc within their institution.
We do not have a limit on the number of proposals per PI, however, if you decide to submit more than one project please make sure that:
- not only the scientific, but also the technical description must be tailored to the specific project. Using the same code for two projects does not mean that the technical details will be the same!
- the projects focus on different scientific problems, otherwise multiple submission would not be justified.

Production project proposals can only apply for resources
on the hybrid partition of Piz Daint, the Cray XC50 Technical reports must be provided for the hybrid partition!
For the 2017 II call for proposals the following resources are available:
13’135’000 node hours including: 4’146’000 node hours on the purely multicore partition (allocated only by recommendation of the panel committee) 8’989’000 node hours on the hybrid partition
