UC BerkeleyUser Study: Methodology

• Mixture of two methods• Semi-structured Interview• Script• Open-ended responses

• Critical Incident• Types of questions asked• Noting significant events that affect the action

Page 8: CS160 - User Interface Design, Prototyping, and Evaluation University of California, Berkeley

UC BerkeleyUser Study: Methodology

• 4 users• Different majors• Different experience with facebook• Different experience with texting• Assumed all familiar with e-mail

• Do a few tasks• Think aloud• Explain what you’re doing and why

UC BerkeleyUser Study: Data

•4 Camtasia Recordings•facebook application usability•Voice

•4 Interview Transcripts•Gestures and facial expressions also recorded

Page 10: CS160 - User Interface Design, Prototyping, and Evaluation University of California, Berkeley

UC BerkeleyUser Study: Conclusions

• Common Issues• Broadcast was confusing• White List was confusing• Not enough explanations on certain parts

• Common Concerns• Reliability• Cost

Page 11: CS160 - User Interface Design, Prototyping, and Evaluation University of California, Berkeley

UC BerkeleyDesign Changes

• No more broadcast tab• Changed into separate Text and e-mail tab• Each has broadcast feature built-in

• New White List features• Improved registration flow• Added navigation bar to Settings

• Can now see current phone number and e-mail address

• More explanations in each step
