Memory Chips

What is “Random Access”?- Can access all positions quickly- An opposite:

RAM – Random Access Memory

Can we take the middle portion?

No!Any computer storage like this?

Yes. Magnetic tape

Twice as much data as a single SIMM

ROM, BIOS (Basic Input/Output System)

Next: The BIOS looks for the operating system (e.g. The Windows OS in the hard disk) and run it.

How data is stored on magnetic media?

Magnetic storage stores data with magnetic particles on the surface

1. Before data is stored, particles on the surface

are scattered in random patterns.

2. When storing data, the drive's read/write head

magnetizes the particles, and lead them in a positive or

negative direction ( 0 or 1).
