Day 1 Day 1 Day 1 Day 1 You are going to complete a STEM project at home! Your challenge is to design and engineer a tall tower. To build your tower:

1. Gather non-breakable materials from around your house (like toys, plastic containers, paper, etc.). Make sure your parents approve of the materials you are using!

2. Think about how you can use the materials to build a tall tower that will stand on its own. Draw out a plan if you’d like.

3. Build your tower. Remember you may have to make adjustments as you are building to get it to work. Good engineers try, try, and try again until they succeed!

4. The tower should go no higher than what you can reach on your tiptoes. 5. Once your tower is complete, either:

a. on a piece of paper write your name, the materials you used, and approximately how tall your tower is (you can measure with a ruler or say something like “as tall as my shoulder”) OR

b. take a picture and email it to me at [email protected] 6. Have fun and don’t forget to put away all your materials!

Answers to possible questions:

1. The tower does not have to be a particular height, just “tall”. 2. The tower needs to stand for at least 3 seconds on its own without falling. 3. Siblings may work together…remember to respect your partner and work

together well!

Day Day Day Day 2222 You are going to complete another STEM project at home! Your challenge is to design and engineer a model of a house. It can be any type of house you want to build! To build your house:

1. Gather non-breakable materials from around your house (like toys, plastic containers, paper, etc.). Make sure your parents approve of the materials you are using!

2. Think about how you can use the materials to build a model of a house. Draw out a plan if you’d like.

3. Build your house. Remember you may have to make adjustments as you are building to get it to work. Good engineers don’t give up!

4. The model of your house may be super simple or very detailed. 5. Once your house is complete, either:

a. on a piece of paper write your name, the materials you used, and a description of your house OR

b. take a picture and email it to me at [email protected] 6. Have fun and don’t forget to put away all your materials!

Answers to possible questions:

1. It’s ok if the model doesn’t look like a regular house you would see on your street. You’re building any type of house you want so be creative!

2. There is no size or shape requirement. 3. Siblings may work together…remember to respect your partner and work

together well!
