Task: Conduct annual mask confidence exercise with assigned protective mask

Condition: Given CBRN CS Chamber (VIC PJ 855305) standard CS Tablets, five Chemical Operations Specialists (74D), assigned M40 protective mask, and all necessary material.

Standards: Ensure all Soldiers are familiar with the proper wear and PMCS of their protective masks. Successfully complete a series of exercises designed to stress the Soldier and the seal of their protective mask and ensure they are able to break and reseal their mask in a contaminated environment.

Purpose: Given a simulated CBRN combat environment, individual combat equipment, utilize the M40 Protective Mask

Method: Soldiers will be supervised while conducting PMCS on their assigned Protective mask. Once complete, Soldiers will have nine seconds to don their mask. Then, a CBRN NCO will verify the seal on the mask. The CBRN NCO will monitor for one minute, for any fogging on the lens. Then the Soldiers will enter the CS Chamber and conduct various movements and exercises. They will stop breathing, break the seal, clear and seal. Then wait to be released from inside the chamber by the CBRN NCO.

Execution: Five Chemical Operations Specialists (74D) and one OIC observe, assist and regulate the PMCS, donning, and training of all personnel attending the training.

Phase I: Soldiers supervisors trained Soldiers on Masking Procedures and correct PMCS. This training provides Soldiers technical knowledge to enable successful reaction in a CBRN environment.

Phase II: CS Chamber Execution. CS Chamber are executed 20 and 21 OCT 08 at CS Chamber from 0900-1700hrs.

Execution (Additional Info)

Vehicle Staging AreaAll vehicles are prepared for movement with five cases of MREs and ten full water cans.

Chamber Staging and Final Seal CheckAll Personnel are accounted for and receive a Safety Brief upon arrival at site. No one is cleared to leave unless OIC/RSO are notified. This area will always have an NCO present to maintain security and accountability.Prior to any personnel entering the chamber, OIC/RSO receive a headcount of personnel at CS chamber. OIC/ RSO give go ahead only once all personnel numbers are accounted.

CS ChamberSoldiers initiate all movements under the guidance and command of CBRN Cadre. OIC/ RSO oversee all actions.

Safety Brief1. Introduce OIC and RSOs.

2. Uniform: IBA w/ Plates, ACH, Protective Mask, Gloves, Knee and Elbow Pads Downgrading at no time authorized.

3. PMCS evaluator must clear you to pass forward to the CS Chamber area.

4. Soldiers may NOT enter the chamber with contact lens in eyes or pregnant Soldiers!

5. Only exemption from CS Chamber is a profile or written doctors note in hand.

6. “CEASE FIRE” can be called at anyone’s discretion, regardless of rank.

7. Point out CLS.

8. Drink water and eat food. If you are a heat casualty, we will stick a needle in your arm with or without your consent.

1. Weather related concerns (Severe Storm / Cold)

2. Poisonous snakes (rattle snakes and copper heads) and spiders (brown recluse and black window) inhabit Fort Riley. Leave all snakes, spiders, and wildlife alone.

3. Designated smoking area / Latrine. Smoking outside of the smoking area will result in immediate removal from the range and contact of your chain of command.
