Simon Adkins Director’s Note

Welcome  to  the  1950’s  and  the  musical  parody  Crybaby!    This  fast  paced,  up-­‐beat  show  is  a  cross  between  Hairspray  and  Grease.    Originally  created  as  a  movie  by  John  Waters,  Crybaby  tells  the  story  of  how  Wade  Crybaby  Walker,  the  leader  of  the  Drape  gang  and  Allison  Vernon  Williams,  a  Square,  generate  turmoil  and  disorder  

how  Allison  is  drawn  across  the  tracks  from  her  upper-­‐class  childhood  to  the  rebellious,  but  sassy  world  of  the  Drapes.    The  

full  of  energy  and  epitomises  the  1950’s  Rock  and  Roll  vibe.    The  

pleasure,  the  characters  are  so  charming  and  appealing  and  the  students  have  embodied  them  and  the  John  Waters  world  so  well.

Simon  began  dancing  at  the  Susan  Taylor  Dancing  Academy,  Banbury,  and  went  on  to  

further  his  training  at  Bird  College,  where  he  graduated  with  a  First  Class  BA  (Hons)  degree  

in  Dance  and  Theatre  Performance.

where  he  created  the  role  of  Bob  Crewe  in  the  Original  London  Cast  (Prince  Edward  

Theatre).    

Other  theatre  credits  include;  the  Original  London  Cast  of  Wicked  (Apollo  Victoria)  

understudied  Fiyero,  Jerry  Springer  the  Opera  (UK  tour)  understudied  Tremont/Angel  

Bill,  Original  London  Cast  of  The  Producers,  understudied  and  played  Lead  Tenor  (Theatre  

Street  (Octagon  Theatre,  Yeovil),  the  original  UK  touring  cast  of  Chicago.
