PSIA Meet This Saturday!
The Atonement Academy is host to the Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) tomorrow, Saturday, March 3
rd, for a regional academic meet. As a good host
to over 1,000 participants from South Texas, our school is providing many of the volunteer positions needed to staff such an event. Unfortunately, many participating schools did not supply the number of positions for which they are required to fill, and so the burden has been placed upon us to shore-up these positions – mostly as assistant directors of an aca-demic event or as a judge. If you have volunteered to as-sist on Saturday, we greatly appreciate your dedication. This is a once-a-year event of great importance for our school and we truly appreciate your help.
Mr. Johnston & Family Need Your Prayers!
In your charity, continue to remember our headmaster, Ralph Johnston, and his family in
your prayers. The rosary continues to be said for his
intention after every 7 am weekday Mass.

COACH MORETTA’s
CORNER On Sunday, February 12, Atonement Academy sopho-more Ruthanne Reiley was awarded the 2nd Grand Prize in the Physical Science Section (Senior Division) at the Alamo Regional Junior Academy of Science. This competition in-volves the students making oral and slide-show presentations of their science fair projects to the judges and answering follow-up questions. Ruthanne presented her project: "Remote, Off-grid,
Sustainable Energy: Maximizing Primary Power Source Rejuvenation." For the layperson, it’s about a way that Ruthanne has come up with to re-charge batteries by capturing the energy of human walking. She will pre-sent this project formally at the Alamo Regional Sci-ence and Engineering Fair at St. Mary's University on March 4th-6th. Ruthanne is pictured here with her Atonement faculty member, Dr. Michael Vallor and the competition director, Mrs. Perez.

The spring season is here and we are so very excited as long as it stops raining at some point! SOCCER: Our middle school teams will move their season to the fall as the weather and other commit-ments have set them back. Watch for new and great up-dates mid-March. Our LS girls are on a roll. They have played three games and won two! They are com-peting as an independent program and challenging club teams and others in the area and are looking real strong and really motivated. Way to go Crusader young ones. MS BASEBALL: Opening day at the Atonement field and we beat St. Anthony 4-3. Our boys are a scrappy team and look for any and all opportunities to score. They come out to win, play hard and work the system they have been taught. Next game is today at home. Up-dates will be on the website weekly, so stay tuned in. VARSITY BASEBALL: this is just amazing, a new start, a new program and a new way to enjoy sports at The Atonement academy. Standing at a record of 1-1 we are pumped to see the boys playing real and tough baseball. Coach Rohr has devised a system and the boys are learning. This is going to be an exciting year and please make sure to come and out watch some of these very cool games. (Be sure to check out Father Phillips with his autographed game ball on page 1!)
TRACK AND FIELD: First meet is March 3rd for the Tri-County relays and we are ready to roll! Our boys and girls teams are made up of some of the finest young men and women at our school, and we boast a team size of 25! This is the largest team in the school for any sport and we are proud. All of our relay teams will be the exciting thing to watch this season as well as the Kennedy sisters in the long distance races, coming off a great cross country performance of top ten in the state meet! Let's see our team take as many as possi-ble to the end result of winning district!
A Message from Father Phillips
There are increasing assaults being directed against the faith and consciences of Catholics in this country, and our bishops
have asked us to pray for the freedom of the Church. Let us enlist the help of St. Michael the Archangel, by using this
prayer daily:
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, cast into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the
world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

THE ANNUAL PENNY WAR!
For years now, The Atonement Academy
sponsors a fundraiser geared toward the
efforts of our students in support of our
sister school in the Holy Land.
During Lent, students bring pennies to add
to their class’s container, vying to have the
most pennies from week to week. Students
also can bring nickels, dimes, quarters,
and dollars to sabotage other classes as
well as coaches and administrators.
The class with the most pennies by March
30 will be treated to a lunch-time pizza
party the after Easter Break!
On February 15, the Student Council spon-
sored The Atonement Academy’s first tal-
ent show, and response to the evening en-
sured that the show will be an annual
event! The St. Anthony Hall was packed to
see and hear classmates perform in the 90
minute show.
Our talented student body prepared dra-
matic performances before (Aesop’s Fa-bles) as well as after the actual talent
show (The Haunted House by Platus).
