VARSITY SOCCER: We had a great representation for our school at the district all-area athlete soc-cer team. Many thanks to our coaches and their developmental model and all they did. The other schools easily voted us as a up and coming team and many of our kids were remembered as a strong force. GIRLS: First team: Mariana Canales, Forward; Second Team: Veronika Prochko, Forward, Fatima Martin, Goalie; Honorable Mention: Isabella Conroy, Midfield, Alex Crawford, Midfield BOYS: Second Team: Joseph Pecha, Forward, Christian Chauvin, Midfield, Alejandro Oliveros, Mid-field, Austin Prochko, Defender. Honorable Mention: Salvador Uriegas WRESTLING: The Atonement Academy hosted their first wrestling match of the season on 1/26 and we had an amazing showing. Our athletes beat both Veritas and John Paul II in a three way match and we had some pretty impressive showings from our kids: Dominic King 2 pins, both in under 30 seconds! Jesse Vasquez 1 pin and 1 win by points Wes Morris 1 victory in double over time! VARSITY BASKETBALL: Regular season play has ended! The girls varsity worked hard all year long, building their strength and stamina and honing their skills! With sadness, they bid adieu to their only senior, Monica King! Basketball regular season wrapped up with another thrilling game this week when the Crusaders battled Lutheran High School’s #1 ranked team! Our young men pushed the game into overtime, but ultimately could not outlast the Mustangs. Our Crusaders begin playoffs on Friday, Feb. 3 — BE THERE AT THE ATONEMENT GYM AT 7 pm! See more on p. 3!

The Varsity Girls won 3rd place in the Warrior Shootout soc-

cer tournament at Cornerstone Christian School on Friday,

Jan. 27th. They played three games with the last one being

the most exciting. Jessica Tuholsky tied the game up in the

second half that resulted in a tie game at the final whis-

tle. This then sent the teams into a shootout to determine the

outcome. The shootout was five alternating shots by each

team from the penalty kick line.

Fatima Martin shot first and scored. Fatima then blocked the

opponent's first kick -- this is a HUGE deal and all but won

the game for us.

Players scoring in the shootout included Jessica Tuholsky, Veronika Prochko, Marianna Canales as well as Kaleigh

Tuholsky! Also, based on her outstanding play throughout the tournament, Jessica Tuholsky was named "Player of

the Tournament." GREAT JOB, CRUSADERS!

Yes, we are in the playoffs and yes we are ready to roll! This Friday — as in tomorrow — we will host the first round of the playoffs at 7:30 for the boys game. We really need your

support and your enthusiasm and commit-ment to make this a community event. Before the game, we’ll also pay tribute to our seniors: Dakotah Vidal and Juan Carlos Hinojosa. Wear red or black, get here for a great Friday night of ex-citement and real fun, real sports, with our very own Crusader basketball fans.

A Message from Father Phillips

There are increasing assaults being directed against the faith and consciences of Catholics in this country, and our bishops have asked us to pray for the freedom of the Church. Let us enlist the help of St. Michael the Archangel, by using this prayer daily: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wicked-ness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Saturday, February 11: 8:30 am until 6:30 pm Norris Conference Center at Wonderland of the Americas Mall

(Fredericksburg and Loop 410)

JASON EVERT IS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR THE

ARCHDIOCESAN YOUTH CONFERENCE.

HIS PRESENTATION IS SLATED FOR 2:45 on SATURDAY.

Jason Evert earned a master's degree in theology, and undergraduate degrees in counseling and theology, with a minor in philosophy at Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is the author of more than ten books, including If You Really Loved Me, How to Find Your Soul-mate Without Losing Your Soul, and Theology of the Body for Teens, which challenge young people to be pure. Jason speaks at seminars, participates in debates, and responds to thousands of questions about chastity and Catholicism from people around the world.

After giving chastity presentations solo for three years, Jason teamed up with Crystalina. They now speak internationally to over 100,000 teens each year in Catholic, Christian, and public junior and senior high schools, as well as universities. Both Jason and Crystalina are full-time apologists with Catholic Answers, the nation's largest lay-run apostolate for apologetics and evangelization. After a year of speaking as an engaged couple, Jason and Crystalina married in 2003, and continue to share their inspirational testimonies with teens as well as parents. In their highly popular chastity seminar, "Romance without Regret," the duo provides compelling and uplifting reasons for embracing the virtue of chastity. The Everts are on the Board of Advisors for the National Abstinence Clearinghouse, and are frequent guests on radio programs throughout the country. Their television appearances include Fox News, the BBC, Donahue, WGN-TV news, and EWTN. They have hosted a pair of TV series for teens on EWTN: “The Pure Life” and “Theology of the Body for Teens.” Jason's video “ Teen Relation-ships and Sexual Pressure.” was given the Silver Crown Award for Best Youth Video by International Christian Visual Media and the two of them were given the 2003 Impact Award by the National Abstinence Clearinghouse for their success with teens in America.
