COMMUNITY
After 32 years of dedicated service to Crusader as both a medical provider and President/CEO, Gordon Eggers, Jr. retired at the end of 2019. Under his leadership, Crusader grew to nine locations serving the primary medical, dental and behavioral healthcare needs of over 58,000 patients. We owe tremendous thanks to Gordon for his leadership and service.
On January 1, 2020, I became Crusader’s sixth President & CEO. It is a great honor, and I am excited to lead Crusader into the future. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by a strong team of experienced leaders.
We will continue to ensure our patients receive high-quality medical, dental and behavioral healthcare through our excellent, patient-centered providers and staff. We will also continue to expand access to better serve our communities.
Crusader works with patients to eliminate barriers to care. Whether it be financial, transportation, language or cultural barriers, we always meet patients where they are.
Our recent patient satisfaction survey confirms we make a difference in our patients’ lives. One patient in our survey said it best “My doctor and nurse are great. They listen to me and talk to me, so I understand what needs to be done”.
The upcoming year will bring exciting changes to Crusader! Our construction project replacing our West State Street facility is moving along nicely. The new building will provide needed additional patient care space allowing us to serve over 3,000 new patients. Medical, dental, behavioral health, lab, optical, and Walgreens will all be conveniently located in our new building along with our leadership team. Our plan is to open in early 2021.
We aren’t done improving the patient experience. We are currently planning significant upgrades to our Broadway facility to improve parking, lighting, equipment and other patient-related enhancements.
Since 1972, our mission has remained the same – providing primary care to all in need. Thank you for your continued support of Crusader Community Health. Together, we will continue to build on our past as we look forward to a bright future.

City of Rockford and U of I College of Medicine built raised plant beds located across from Crusader on Broadway. The harvested food is distributed through the Rock River Valley Food Pantry at the CCH Broadway location. Crusader staff volunteers planted and maintained the garden. It is an innovative co-operative effort for Crusader and its great Broadway neighbors.
The Women’s Health Program at Crusader received $10,000 from Illinois Bank & Trust. The annual donation is part of the bank’s Take-A-Swipe at Breast Cancer debit card program. When bank customers use their special debit cards, the bank donates a portion of each transaction to the Crusader Women’s Health Program.

Crusader held a ground breaking ceremony in October for the new clinic at 1200 West State Street. About 125 guests, including Rockford’s Mayor Tom McNamara, learned about the placement of the new clinic on the current property and the time line for completion in January 2021. The new clinic will be home to Crusader’s leadership team and continue to provide all the medical, dental and behavioral health services currently offered.
And the work began...October 16, 2019. Clear the land, build the stairway and elevator towers first.
Thank you to the first responders at the Rockford Fire Department for their loyal support, kindness and caring for Crusader patients who
sometimes come to us when they really need hospital care.
The Cosmopolitan Club of Rockford donated $20,000 this year to help fund Crusader’s diabetes program.
In 2019, 11-year veteran provider Jennifer Dobson, APN, CNM, delivered her 1,000th
baby as a Crusader certified nurse midwife.
INSIDE PANEL 3
Retired Catholic priest, Fr. David Beauvais, has a long history with 1200 West State Street. As a young priest in 1962, he taught at Muldoon High School. He was a representative for the Diocese of Rockford in the 1980s when Crusader purchased Muldoon High School for $1 from the diocese. At the end of 2019, he returned that dollar to Crusader Community Health along with a gracious note and his generous annual gift to the Crusader Foundation. Over the years, Fr. Beauvais has been on the Crusader Community Health Foundation Board of Directors and was the recipient of the Foundation Spirit of Caring Award in 2006. His decades of kindness and support are a blessing to Crusader!
Crusader Community Health Foundation was the recipient of a very generous bequest of over $57,500. The gift was from the estate of Ardella M. Stenberg. Mrs. Stenberg (inset) graduated from East High School in 1949 and was the owner of Ekstrom Confectionery on 7th Street in Rockford. She died in 2018. The distribution was made by John Willey, (right) estate trustee, to Gordon Eggers Jr., and Kathy Olson. This unexpected gift will be invested wisely to help the health and lives of so many people in our community.
We are honored to be co-chairing the Foundation’s In It Together Campaign for our new clinic at 1200 West State Street.
Our goal is 1200 unique, monetary gifts. We are asking friends to join us in achieving it. All contributions are welcome!
Pledges can also be made. We are committed to honoring our donors with a public display within the new building. Gifts may be made outright or over a period of 3 years.
There are specific giving levels and naming opportunities with this campaign. And every donation, large or small, is appreciated. THANK YOU! To learn more and donate visit www.crusaderhealth.org

Fun Night at the Crusader Corral happened October 18th! Crusader Community Health Foundation hosted its 47th Evening of Caring to celebrate accomplishments and thank generous donors. There was a terrific silent auction, an awesome Hats & Boots contest as well as a whole lot of people in their best western outfits. One clever couple won the costume contest dressed as Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Proceeds from the event will go to the new Crusader Community Health clinic on West State Street. 2019 Spirit of Caring recipient was LoRayne Logan (a). Spirit-of-the-Future recipient was Tony Turner (b) and the organization recipient was Members Alliance Credit Union (c). A big thanks to WTVO ABC-17 anchors Mimi Murphy and Eric Wilson who were event emcees.Thank you to everyone who sponsored and attended this fun annual event.
