Rachel who is 17 started in October 2013 and will be with us for nine months finishing in July 2014. Rachel will be employed as a trainee /shop assistant and retail

assistant. As with all others employed through this scheme internal and external training. This will help improve Rachel’s prospects and gain more qualifications to enable her to secure full time employment once her time with us comes to an end.

They are one of the largest textile recycling companies in the UK and are committed to creating and protecting jobs. All recycled goods are exported to Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. This helps divert textile materials from landfill. We accept all clothing,

Funding of £500 was received from Community Food & Health to purchase branded bags for use in the Community Shop. Part of the funding has also to be used to purchase uniforms for the volunteers who run the shop.

This is the third time funding has been received from Community Food & Health for promotional items. Currently three volunteers run the shop but we are interested in attracting new volunteers for a number of projects within the Centre. Social Club Saturday Night Lounge 2014 Due to lower numbers attending Coalburn Miners’

Welfare Lounge on a Saturday night this area is now available to hire for smaller sized parties. The Juke Box

which can download 70,000 songs ranging from the 40’s to present time will be played until further notice.

Coalburn Miners’ Welfare Charitable Society received funding from ‘Awards for All’ for £9,733 to install LED lighting

throughout the entire building. Match funding for £1,710 was received from the Hagshaw Hill Windfarm Trust for installation costs. Work installing the new

lighting commenced on Friday 7th February and was completed within two weeks. By installing low energy LED lighting this will make a saving of over £2,000

electricity costs per annum. The project meets the ‘Awards for All’ outcome of People having better and more sustainable services and environments.
