APPELLATION: Yarra Valley BLEND: Syrah (100%) WINEMAKER: Luke Lambert VINEYARD: Luke makes this wine with handpicked fruit sourced from the Tibooburra Vineyard near Gembrook, in the south-eastern corner of the Yarra. The soils here are unusual for the valley, comprising of a seam of black volcanic topsoil over yellow clay with a smattering of granite rock. For this wine Luke uses fruit from a lower part of the valley, at around 120 metres above sea level. This is one of the coolest microclimates of the Yarra. VITICULTURE: The vineyards are run organically, with sustainability as the number one criteria. WINEMAKING: The grapes are partially destemmed, with about 20% whole bunches used. They are then fermented using wild yeast with no temperature control, before pressing, and maturation in in 30 year-old, large format French oak barrels for three months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. WEBSITE: http://www.lukelambertwines.com.au/ This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. TASTING NOTES: A refreshing wine, built around a core of acid and bright red fruit. Crudo is all about retaining the vibrancy, freshness and lightness of the wine. On the nose there is cherry stone and crunchy plum. The palate is textured and supple, with crisp tannins, bramble and dried- herb, savoury notes and good length. CRUDO SHIRAZ - LUKE LAMBERT
