WelcomeCrow Wood Golf Club, situated just 10 minutes from Glasgow city centre, is home to a beautiful parkland course that offers a very fair test to golfers of all abilities. A James Braid design, the course was formed in 1925 on the grounds of the Garnkirk Estate.

We welcome any golfer who loves the game, including visitors, societies and those looking for a flexible range of golf club membership packages. For those looking to lower their scores and improve their game, coaching is available seven days a week from our talented PGA teaching professional.

We are proud of our reputation as a friendly and welcoming club and golfers can expect a warm welcome in our spacious and well-appointed clubhouse, where a well-stocked bar and first class home-cooked food provide a perfect accompaniment to your round of golf.

The clubhouse facilities are also available to hire for special occasions such as weddings and birthday parties, and our facilities and central location make us perfect for conferences.

We have an excellent Corporate Membership Package available, especially designed to help local businesses make maximum marketing impact with minimum outlay.

Whether you are looking for membership, a one-off golf outing or a venue to host your function, Crow Wood has something to offer, and we will be delighted to welcome you.

HistoryCrow Wood Golf Club was opened for play on 30th April 1925 on land owned by the Garnkirk Estate. The initial annual subscriptions were £3 3s. (£3.15) for men and £2 2s. for women.

The course originally covered 160 acres and totalled 5,610 yards in length, but the acquisition of some extra land in the 1930s allowed it to be extended by more than 500 yards, resulting in the 6,168-yard that is played today.

James Braid, a five-time winner of the Open Championship, was the course designer. Nearly a century later we are still grateful to the influence of the man who has the King’s Course and Queen’s Course at Gleneagles and the 1926 remodelling of The Open Championship venue Carnoustie Golf Links on his resume.

The beautifully-appointed mansion of Garnkirk House was the original “19th hole” and continued to be used until 1932 when the house was taken over.

A new clubhouse was erected at that time bordering the Cumbernauld Road (now Crowwood House Hotel). It was in use until 1955 when the mansion house was bought after negotiations with the Stenhouse family and became the clubhouse once again. The building is still in use today and the welcome is as warm today as it has ever been.

CoachingIf you have the commitment and desire to lower your handicap then our teaching professional will be delighted to help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be. Coupled with our practice facilities, we feel we can offer an all-round game improvement package.

Driving accuracy is an important skill to possess, wherever you are playing in the world, but particularly at Crow Wood. Club Professional Ian Graham can get you on the straight and narrow in no time. Equally, he can sharpen up your short game and save you shots around the green. Ian is happy to utilise traditional hands-on teaching methods or can you offer you the latest in 21st century video technology on the Ipad.

Sometimes the technique is fine, but not the thought process behind the selection of shot, and that is where an on-course playing lesson can be a huge benefit giving you a unique insight into how to make the most of your ability, to choose the right shot at the right time and subsequently to lower your scores.

Contact Ian on 0141 779 1943 to discuss your game and to book a lesson.

Reciprocal Golf ArrangementsAn added benefit of being a member at Crow Wood is the chance to enjoy discounted green fee rates at numerous golf courses locally, across the United Kingdom and even abroad.

We enjoy reciprocal golfing arrangements with several neighbouring courses, namely Alloa, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Clober, Clydebank & District (Hardgate), Dullatur, Hayston, Hilton Park, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milngavie, Sandyhills, Vale of Leven and Windyhill. Through this arrangement, adult members of Crow Wood can play at the other clubs for a small administrative charge, subject to availability of suitable play-ing times.

In addition, Crow Wood is a member of the Association of James Braid Courses, which has now attracted more than 200 hundred member clubs from the north of Scotland, to Ireland, Wales, all areas of England and one in New York. The list now includes many of Braid’s famous designs such as St Enodoc, Brora, Dalmahoy and Gleneagles.

The advantages of being a member of the association is that members can play at all other member clubs for reduced green fees, subject to tee availability, thereby increasing the awareness and appreciation of Braid’s work.

ClubhouseOur traditional clubhouse has a great history, having originally been the Mansion House of the Garnkirk Estate.

It is decorated and furnished to a high standard, presenting a pleasant and relaxing area for members to relax and enjoy our excellent Scottish hospitality. The clubhouse offers great comfort and a welcoming atmosphere in which to socialise and relax either after a round of golf or as members of the club.

As well as the main lounge we have the Crow’s Nest spike bar, where dress rules are more relaxed, so that members and guests coming off the course can enjoy the clubhouse facilities without the need to change their clothing or footwear.

Our bars are well stocked with a wide selection of beers, wines, and spirits and a choice of soft drinks. Hot and cold food is served daily seven days a week. Our caterer is held in high regard by the members and you can enjoy a good selection of bar snacks, sandwiches or tasty daily specials.

Watch major sporting events on television or make use of the Wi-Fi available in the clubhouse to catch up on those important e-mails.

There are also 2 dedicated function rooms which can be hired for special occasions.

Social ActivitiesCrow Wood prides itself on being a friendly club and as well as getting to play a fine and historic golf course as often as they choose, members enjoy an active social calendar.

An extensive and varied programme of social events is organised throughout the year, with the aim being that there should be something to appeal to everyone, whatever their taste in entertainment. These events are aimed not only at the members, but their partners as well, so they too can enjoy being a part of club life.

Members are partial to musical entertainment and tribute acts or live bands can often be found among the offerings on the social calendar. Other events have included quiz and karaoke nights and guest speakers at our annual Gents’ Smoker evening.

Fun formats of golf are arranged, especially in the summer, which are followed by a get-together in the clubhouse. Then there are the more formal dinners to mark such special occasions as the end of the Captain’s year in office and to celebrate the year’s outstanding golfers, allowing members to enjoy each other’s company and to partake of the tasty fare provided by the club’s excellent and highly-regarded caterers.

Burns Night is celebrated in January, while our Christmas dinner dance in December is always an eagerly-anticipated event. But arguably the most popular of all is the celebration of Hogmanay, which generally sees the club packed out and a hugely enjoyable night had by all, even if it is often difficult for many to recall all the details the following morning!
