Cutting Method Instructions

Cutting Method 1

• Place the 4¾” x WOF fabric strip onto the cutting mat, right side up, and with WOF strip unfolded so that only one cut is made at a time. Trim the left edge of the fabric strip using the 45° angle. This will allow you to begin cutting fabrics for piecing.

• Align the 45° angle of the ruler along the bottom edge of the fabric strip. Before cutting fabrics, make sure that the bottom edge and the top edge of the fabric measures 9¾”. Diagrams on Page 3 show this process. Lay a ruler over the fabric piece and ensure that the fabric measures 14” from top to bottom and 4¾” across. Accurate measurements are crucial for piecing.

• Begin cutting fabric pieces as shown in the diagram on Page 3. (3) cuts can be made per strip. There should be (2) 45° angles present on the fabric piece as shown. Cutting Method 1 will be a mirror image of Cutting Method 2.

Piecing Instructions

1. The quilt is assembled in vertical rows using a combination of HST, QST and fabric pieces cut using Cutting Methods 1 and 2. Vertical rows are labeled as Rows 1-4. Follow the following fabric combination guide as well as the diagrams on page 5 for accurate fabric placement. Sew fabrics in the order in which they are written using a ¼” seam. Pressing instructions are listed for each vertical row.

2. Begin Piecing Row 1:

(1) Fabric F 7¼" QST -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric I Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric F Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric I Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric F Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric I Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric F Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7¼" QST.

3. Reference diagrams for Row 1 Assembly for fabric placement. Repeat to create (5) identical Row 1. Press seams toward the Fabric H 7¼” QST as shown in the diagram on Page 5.

4. Begin piecing Row 2:

(1) Fabric L 7¼" QST -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric C Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric L Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric C Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric L Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric C Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric L Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7¼" QST.

5. Reference diagrams for Row 2 Assembly for fabric placement. Repeat to create (5) identical Row 2. Press seams toward the Fabric L 7¼” QST as shown in the diagram on Page 5.

6. Begin piecing Row 3:

(1) Fabric G 7¼" QST -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric K Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric G Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric K Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric G Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7" HST -> (1) Fabric K Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric J 7" HST -> (1) Fabric G Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric H 7¼" QST.

7. Reference diagrams for Row 3 Assembly for fabric placement. Repeat to create (4) identical Row 3. Press seams toward the Fabric H 7¼” QST as shown in the diagram on Page 5.

8. Begin piecing Row 4:

(1) Fabric M 7¼" QST -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric E Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric M Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric E Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric M Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7" HST -> (1) Fabric E Cutting Method 1 -> (1) Fabric D 7" HST -> (1) Fabric M Cutting Method 2 -> (1) Fabric A 7¼" QST.

Quilt Top Assembly

10. Lay out the quilt according to the Quilt Assembly Diagram above. Rows 1-4 are in order numerically. HST, QST and Cutting Methods 1 & 2 should be paired up together throughout the quilt top alternating fabrics throughout.

11. Once you have confirmed that the layout is correct, begin sewing together the rows as shown. Use pins to align seams.

Finishing

12. With the backing fabric laying taut, place batting and then quilt top to form quilt sandwich.

13. Baste and quilt as desired.

14. Attach Fabric B binding to complete quilt.
