This year it happened at 6:45 p.m. on March 20th. In ancient China, tradition holds that on the day of the lunar New Year, a person can balance an egg on the head of pin. In America we adopted that practice, only we attempt to do it on the first day of Spring. Despite popular belief, though, you can actually balance an egg on its end any day of the year. It has nothing to do with the gravitational pull of the sun or the moon. Sometimes we can make things sort of difficult. Or at least I can. I can spend way too much time and energy on things that shouldn’t have any pull on my life. I worry about invisible things like popularity and success. I worry about the markings of time like my To Do List and calendar. And then I try to balance it all in the belief that I can control what God has already made perfect. This Easter, we will be looking at the surprising egg. The first day of spring and fall each year marks the point when the length of days and nights are approximately equal everywhere on Earth. This year it happened at 6:45 p.m. on March 20th.

In ancient China, tradition holds that on the day of the

lunar New Year, a person can balance an egg on the head of pin. In America we adopted that practice, only we attempt to do it on the first day of Spring. On that day -- as we gaze at that fragile egg teetering between miracle and mayhem -- we pride ourselves in believing that we have helped the world be in perfect balance… that invisible forces don’t have their strange effect on the internal parts of creation.

Despite popular belief, though, you can actually balance

an egg on its end any day of the year. It has nothing to do with the gravitational pull of the sun or the moon.

Sometimes we can make things sort of difficult. Or at

least I can.

Why does Easter have ancient traditions that include eggs? Come and hear the joy of Easter at our worship service. And remember that Easter is more than just a day to dye for.

Blessings,

Pastor Sue

Last year, Waukee Christian Church contributed $5,451

to Disciples Mission Fund - a 15% increase! Outreach is the

largest non-personnel, non-building related item in our

budget. Our gifts are crucial to the ongoing work of the

church in this country and around the world. People who

witness, love, and serve on our behalf depend on these

donations. And we lift them in prayer and celebrate their

selfless witness. Thank you for your generous hearts!

Remember that VBS song, “I am the church! You are the church!

We are the church together!” All of us are given wonderful gifts by the

God who created us. And we can use those gifts to serve Waukee Christian Church together.

Can you count? Volunteers are needed to help count the morning offering. If you are an Elder or on the Board, can you help in the rotation? George Risinger and Jerry Woods have been serving for over a year, but it means they often miss fellowship time. Please consider taking your turn and visit with George or Jerry.

Can you click? We only have a couple of people who operate the slide show on Sunday morning. It’s very easy! Just push a button.

Training is provided. Let Pastor Sue know if you can take a turn in the AV booth.

Respite Volunteers? Can you take a turn providing respite for Don & Evelyn Dowell on Friday mornings? Call the office for more details.

Attention AV Operators:

As you are all aware, we have a new laptop in the sanctuary which connects to the

projector wirelessly. The instructions on how to make this connection are taped to the wall

inside the AV booth. Once the picture is on the screen, you will need to take the projector

remote and, with it almost directly under the projector, click the top “E-Zoom” button to

enlarge the picture until it fills the screen. You have to click it twice (or until you see 1.375 in

the lower left hand corner of the screen).

Wall Art Display We are collecting crosses to create a display. If you have a wall cross you can

donate, please bring it to church. All are appreciated, but we can’t promise to work

them all into the display. So please put your name on the back of the cross. Thanks!
