Cross Point Emmaus
I f you talk to recent pilgrims about their walk, and what they remember most, you would probably get
a response like: “the food was great!” or “wow, all the
snacks!” But like everything else, there are a lot of pieces
to a successful walk and music is a big part.
Likewise, gatherings would not be the same if all the
worship were sung a capella. So the Board of your Cross
Point community has a person whose sole job is to arrange for musicians to play at gatherings and Fourth Day events.
And sometimes this work is challenging.
The irony is that there are lots of talented people in our community and we just don’t have a list or know how
to contact them. For gatherings they don’t even have to be
Emmaus members.
THE NEWSLETTER, being civic-minded (at least as far as this community is concerned) is putting out this plea:
if you—and you know who you are—can play an instru-
ment or know someone who can, then please contact the
Board rep for Music, Dale Moncres:
or you can contact the Newsletter and we will get it
to him. All manner of musicians are welcome: pianists,
drummers, gitfiddle players, and violinists. We are al-
ready well supplied with kazoo players. Sorry.

As the Spring walks draw near… yes,
the walks are drawing near even though
Christmas is just around the corner. By
now, teams are being selected and train-
ing will begin soon. Team members will
be beginning to prepare their talks and
PowerPoints (and maybe a set of post-
ers!)
And soon the Newsletter will begin
bugging you, the Community, about
agape, snacks, and reminding you to
pray. But this season we have a more
urgent request.
For the first time in our short mem-
ory there is a shortage of applications for
team members. There have only been
enough applications to barely fill the
women’s walk, and that leaves nothing

for alternates or for the inevitable drop-
outs due to sickness or family.
How are we as a community going to
handle this? We need those of us who can
to stand up and offer their time. It may be
only an offer to step in if needed, but the
Lay Directors don’t need the pressure of
looking for someone at the last minute.
A copy of the Volunteer Application is
on page 5 of the newsletter. If you can be
of help, please prayerfully consider what
you can do, and make yourselves available
if needed.
God always seems to fill in the gaps
when we fall short. Perhaps this will be
another demonstration of His power and
His calling through us. If so, we are glad
and humbled at His ability to use us to glo-
rify His name!

Kairos Prison Ministry

T his time of year we are looking forward to celebrating our Savior’s birth and enjoying our
family and friends. I would like for you to first think
about the ones who are incarcerated and won’t be able to
see their families. They are where they are because of
what they did but they still need our prayers.
This weekend, I am joining other Emmaus women
to put together Christmas packages for women at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center. Saturday we will be having
our monthly reunion and passing out these packages.
Two hundred and ninety women have signed up to come to this event knowing that a lot of time, prayer and love
was spent just for these residents.
I encourage you to first pray for residents in correc-
tional facilities all over the country. If the Lord leads you to take action, get involved in Kairos; or at the very
least send cards to a few residents. I can give you
names of women at MBCC who have gone through Kai-ros and would love to have mail. Some of these women
receive no mail or visitors; I can’t imagine what life
would be like without my family…
W e extend an invitation to you - the men and
women in the Cross Point Emmaus commu-
nity to join us in a Kairos weekend to reach out to the
lonely and forgotten part of our society. There is a tre-mendous need for volunteers that are willing to serve in
this ministry. Hebrews 13:3 - Remember the prisoners,
as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves are also in the body.
(NASV)
Currently in our area there is a men’s Kairos week-
end in the Davis correctional facility in Holdenville, in the spring. There are several men in the area working in
this ministry.
The women’s Kairos 4 day weekend is scheduled after the Emmaus walk in April 11-14 2013; our own
Esther Rush will be the lay director for this walk. If you
are interested in getting involved on the inside team or the outside team, please contact one of the Abney’s
listed to the right.
Thank you for your prayers. Merry Christmas!

The Cross Point Emmaus Board meets at 4:00 pm prior to every monthly gathering. In the November meet-
ing, the Board discussed several issues that are important to
the community.
The Board reviewed certain issues that resulted or were referred to the Board from the Fall 2012 walks. The
community may not know that the Board carefully consid-
ers all events and any suggestions that come from team members and Lay Directors to improve the walks and ad-
here to the Emmaus model.
The Board discussed the role of the A/V techs and the proper staffing of various outside positions. It is the
Board’s decision that each person who sends in a volunteer
application will be contacted, but there are limitations as to
how many volunteers can be accommodated in various po-
sitions.
One important decision was to notify the community at
each event on the walks that cameras (including cellphone cameras) are not permitted. No Photos! Also outside
guests/children who have not been on a walk are NOT per-
mitted to attend any event: sendoff, spon-sor’s hour, candlelight, or closing. These
are Emmaus events only.
By-Laws Revision is underway to
update the old 1993 version. The main concerns were to more closely adhere to
the Emmaus model, and to clarify the
wording of several of the articles. When that work is finished, a newly amended
version will be voted upon by the Board
and submitted to the community for review.
The Board discussed the findings of the Team Selec-tion Special committee and reviewed the worksheet that
records the previous activity of volunteers and team mem-
bers on previous walks. They reviewed the Volunteer Ap-plication form and made suggestions for changes. The
Board is committed to fair treatment of all applications and
confirming that the model is followed in the team selec-tion process. This means that anyone accepted into
“inside service” must have worked outside on at least two
walks.
In addition the board is making this appeal to the community to consider working on the Set Up/Tear
Down team at the beginning of the men’s walk and after
closing of the women’s. This is an area that is not on the volunteer application, but has been faithfully pursued by
our Mark Newman and a few volunteers. There is a lot
of work moving and setting up, then storing all the stands, monitors, and other things essential to the walks.
Please consider volunteering in this area. It does not re-
quire a team fee or three luxurious nights in a cabin, and
it relieves the load on some tireless workers!
Volunteer applications are still needed! It is not too
late to submit an application. The women’s walk is
BARELY filled. There are no alternates. Please be in
prayer over your opportunity to serve.
The Board wishes to thank everyone who has con-
tributed to scholarship accounts for either Team members
or Pilgrims. Your generosity is appreciated!

came immediately to my mind.
You see, though most people think of Luke 2:1-20 as
the Christmas gospel, since I began to really study the
Word and the Word has begun to capture my heart, this
has been the Christmas Story to me.
T he true light, Jesus Christ, has always ex-
isted, has always been the Son of, but also
One in full equality in the triune God. And when He willingly came to earth and became man to de-
liver the light that would conquer the darkness of this
fallen world, to reclaim all that was, and is, and always will be his . . . even though John was sent to be a witness
and testify to the presence of the light before his coming.
. . the world did not recognize the light!
Yet He was no less the True Light, and to all who receive him and believe in his name, the right is given to
become sons and daughters of God . . . born not of natu-
ral descent, but out of the will God! And we are chosen to carry the Holy Spirit of God, to testify to the “True
Light of the World” in order that none might perish!
What a wonderful gift from our heavenly Father! Halle-
lujah!!
Have a beautiful day! JanisJanisJanisJanis
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in
the beginning. Through him all things were made; with-
out him nothing was made that has been made. In him
was life, and that life was the light of men. The light
shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not under-
stood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his
name was John. He came as a witness to testify con-
cerning that light, so that through him all men might
believe. He himself was not
the light; he came only as a
witness to the light. The true
light that gives light to every
man was coming into the
world. He was in the world,
and though the world was
made through him, the
world did not recognize
him. He came to that which was his own, but his own
did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those
who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God—children born not of natural descent,
nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of
God.”
John 1: 1-13 NIV
L ast night the Christmas season officially be-gan in Ardmore . . . with a parade of lights!
It’s great fun to watch the children as they
first see the lighting of the Christmas tree, then squeal with delight as the parade begins and nearly every ele-
ment, even the marching bands, stream merrily by, cov-
ered in sparkling lights!
But as I watched last night, I couldn’t help but notice there was scarcely any reference to the “true light” . . .
for which the celebration of lights is supposed to be a
symbol. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved everything about Christmas . . . especially the lights . . .
but it just disappointed me a little.
Naturally, this was on my mind this morning, as I went to my garden. As I stepped outside, the cold, crisp
air caused my breath to become visible as I exhaled,
which reminded me of the Holy Spirit, dwelling within
me . . . how this is not possible without the Christmas gospel! I settled into stillness and this scripture passage

On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village
called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14
They were talking with each other about everything that
had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these
things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked
along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing
him.
….
28 As they approached the village to which they were go-
ing, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But
they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly
evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay
with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread,
gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then
their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he
disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other,
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked
with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
