FROM OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPAL Welcome to the May newsletter, I would like to welcome Mr Paul Gilmore as our new College Principal. Mr Gilmore was the Principal at Glendale High School in Newcastle and joins our College team as a highly regarded leader of educational pedagogy. Paul replaces Mrs Sally Conn who retired earlier this year. Congratulations to our campus captains Jack Steed and Lauren Hayes, who represented our campus at the recent Woy Woy ANZAC service. Jack’s speech was extremely moving and I have had a number of calls from community members who wished to pass on their congratulations. Alana Hardcastle demonstrated her leadership qualities when she represented our College at the Empire Bay ANZAC service. Again I have received calls applauding Alana’s participation in the service. On Wed 29

th April we held our campus ANZAC service. Organised by Mr Macey and

his team, the student led service was extremely moving and well supported by all students. I would also like to thank Mr Maxwell, his production team and Mrs Garner and her music students for their tremendous performances. The severe storms of a few weeks ago caused havoc throughout the community. Many students and staff were without power for days and my condolences go out to families who suffered property damage. The Woy Woy campus was a little more fortunate with no loss of power and although some trees were uprooted we did not receive any structural damage to buildings. The campus was deemed safe for students and stayed open but it was at the discretion of parents if they believed it was safe for travel. All tree debri has now been cleared from our campus.

Dear Parents, I would like to take the opportunity to let you know that I am delighted to take on the role as College Principal at BWSC. I was previously a science teacher on the Woy Woy Campus during the mid to late 90's and feel as if I am just coming home to a place that I have many fond memories of. From Woy Woy I moved to Wadalba Community School as the Head Teacher Science. I then left the Central Coast to take on the position of Deputy Principal Callaghan College Wallsend in the Newcastle area and later moved onto Glendale Technology High School as the substantive Principal. I am a strong advocate for public education and I will let you know that as in all my schools I will endeavour to support the teachers to provide the best in public education for your children.
