Gentlemen:

The Stanislaus County Agricultural Crop Report for 1982 is herebysubmitted in compliance with Section 2279 of the California Foodand Agricultural Code.

The gross agricultural income for 1982 is estimated to be$746,105,400.00. This represents a decrease of 4.5 percent from

our 1981 income.

Field crop income was down 13% from the previous year due pri-marily to a reduction in har'/ested acres and lower prices forbarley and beans.

Lower market price was the principal reason for a significantreduction in income from livestock and poultry. .

Although both apricots and walnuts showed substantial gains inincome, with excellent crops and good prices, the overall fruitand nut crop income declined by 3.8 million dollars. The unstablemarket conditions for peaches and grapes and the effects of earlyfall rain on grape quality, were the factors responsible for themajor portion of this decrease.

All estimates in this report represent gross income to the farmerand do not reflect the cost of production.
