Since 1978, shortly after a wave of UFOsightings in Wiltshire, England, this region haspresented the world with annual mysterious formations known as “Crop

Circles.” Appearing overnight as geometric patterns made by bending stalks ofripening grain, this phenomenon has both amazed and annoyed researchers, government officials and the public. to a generation that needs them.” This year, inEngland at least, some of the most noteworthyformations pointed towards ancient mounds; to theMayan calendar's countdown to 2012; and thepentagonal/hexagonal structure of our DNA - thebuilding blocks of life.

John Michell will be in Arizona November 18-20 at the

Tempe Embassy Suites for the Signs of Destiny 2005conference to discuss how ancient sacred geometry

principles have been superbly demonstrated in recentcrop circles. See www.chetsnow/signs.html

At press time, it's not yet possible to give acompletely accurate count of the 2005 summerseason. I've noted in my previous Four Cornersarticles that, with no single data collecting standard, some circles will always go unnoticed. However,it's not too early to say with confidence that2005 has marked an upswing both innumbers and complex designs over2004. The Internet remains the bestsource for crop circle data. TwoEnglish web sites stand out. They arew w w . c r o p c i r c l e c o n n e c t o r . c o(the “Connector”) andwww.cropcircleresearch.com. (“Int'l CCData Base”). I remain grateful for theirdedication to updating the phenomenon. From them plus several “national” cropcircle web sites, here are myconclusions about this year's crop circleseason.

The GreatCount

As of September, the Connector lists71 formations plus 18 “rumors” inBritain and 85 formations plus 8“rumors” elsewhere, for a global total of156 formations. The ICCDB lists 75British formations and 80 elsewhere, equaling 155, world-wide. In 2004,these totals were 149 and 154,respectively. My own research gives asomewhat different picture, largely dueto consulting “national” sites andchasing down some of the Connector's“rumors” that seem credible. For GreatBritain, I tallied 77 circles this season, including 4 of the Connector's“rumors,” vs. just 65 British reports in2004. I also found 115 formations in therest of the world. My 2005 global totalis 192 formations. This represents a7.3% increase but is still well below1999 when 175 circles were reported injust Great Britain.

My 2005 national totals are listedbelow. Germany with 29 circles andItaly with 25 were distant “runners-up”to Britain in 2005. Poland (12 circles),the Czech Republic (11) and the USA(10) were also in double digits. TheNetherlands fell from 11 to 8 circles this

year. Canada had 5; Sweden, Belgium andSwitzerland each reported 3 circles; Australia 2while Slovenia, Austria, Denmark, Russia andMexico had 1. This appears to mark Mexico's firstreported crop circle, found in May 2005. Thus, thephenomenon seems to be making a bit of a“comeback” in Britain (there was even a circlereported in Scotland in August) while continuing atabout the same levels abroad - except maybe in theUSA, which reported 15 circles in 2004, but only10 so far this season; and Canada 5 circles this yearvs. 11 in 2004. Since autumn harvests in the USAand Canada continue into October, their currenttotals may still rise.

As usual, more formations than anywhere else(about 50) came in southern England i.e., Wiltshire,Hampshire and Sussex. Increasing numbers (11)

appeared in Oxfordshire, north of Wiltshire, thisyear, including two major formations near the 3,000year-old Uffington White Horse monument, wherelegends say St. George slew the dragon. Wiltshirewith the megalithic sites of Stonehenge, Avebury, and Silbury Hill remains the place most visited byresearchers and the public. It's where Kallista and Itake two small tour groups each summer toexperience the circles personally. Our August 2005group visited 8 circles including both of themajestic Oxfordshire formations. We attended theWiltshire Crop Circle Study Group's weekendconference and flew over at least 15 formations in achartered helicopter, an exciting experience not tobe missed. Kallista and I personally explored 23new formations in the four weeks we were insouthern England. I've chosen some of the most

interesting to discuss here.

The Eye ofthe ScarabSilbury Hill was the magnificent

setting for the first circle Kallista and Ientered with 7 members of our French-speaking group on July 15. Silbury iscalled a 5,000 year old “mound” (moreaccurately, a step pyramid) near Avebury. Its surrounding fields have long been amagnet for crop circles. On July 9 astrange oval-shaped formation about200-feet- long with a round “hole” offlattened crop plus 12- curved bands ofalternating standing and downed cropwas discovered in the wheat field justadjacent. Some dubbed it an “Eye” whileothers saw it as a stylized representationof Comet Tempel 1, into which NASAblasted a 300-ft round crater on July 4with a “deep impact probe” shot up fromEarth. Still others saw a giant scarabbeetle, an ancient symbol of death &rebirth.

Whatever it was, its energies feltalmost explosive as we entered, so Idowsed for the group. Not surprisingly, the rods told me that only a 30-minutevisit was “safe” for 5 of our group, including myself. As I walked around it,I felt strong, negative energies radiatingfrom the central “hole”. Few peopleseemed drawn to linger there, preferringthe outer curving bands, one of whichwas punctuated with 16 standing croptufts that resembled teeth. Kallista andtwo other women from our group feltnauseous and left the field. The rest of usremained longer, admiring thespectacular view of Silbury Hill, andthen left. In mid-August we returnedwith our American group; they reportedmore peaceful energies now that thecircle was a month old. Personally, Iagree with those who saw this as thecircle-makers' view of our fumblingPenrose Triange

attempts to probe Nature (i.e., Tempel 1) with littleregard for the consequences. Someday we will payfor the reckless way we're using space and it maybe sooner than anyone realizes.

Being adjacent to Silbury Hill made the July9th formation one of the most visited of 2005. Itdefinitely called attention to this, the largest chalkmound in Europe. Originally one of three suchmounds dotting the Wiltshire countryside, Silburyremains the only one still intact. This summer, thecrop circle phenomenon called public attention toall three locations in different ways. Was thatdeliberate or just another of those “meaningfulcoincidences” that seem to cluster around cropcircles? Only time will tell.

The MardenCeltic Cross

On August 9, exactly one month after theSilbury Hill “Scarab,” the circle-makers graced uswith a powerful, enigmatic formation in a fieldclose to Marden, south of Silbury and once hometo a similar Neolithic chalk mound and henge, now flattened. This time the formation was over200 feet in diameter, made up of two thin and onethick concentric rings of downed crop with fourcircles laid out in a “Celtic cross” pattern on thethin middle ring. Beautiful as the cross patternwas, however, it was the astoundingly intricate 50-foot -wide central circle that caught everyone's

attention. In 14 years of cropcircle research, I've never seenanything like it. This circlearrived the same day as our 10-member USA tour group so itwasn't until August 12 that wevisited it. The crop was stillquite “green,” obviously havingbeen planted later than usual. The central circle took fulladvantage of the uncommonplasticity of the wheat stems tocreate an almost unbelievablycomplex weaving of swirls, loops, plaits, and “A frames”raised 15 inches from theground. Seen from the air, itlooked like the outline of ahorse's head & mane surroundedby several maze-like forms.Shortly after it's discovery, theSaq' Be', a group dedicated tohelping preserve highland Mayaculture, claimed that the designresembled an ancient Mayasymbol for the Milky Way, nowused as a logo on the group'sweb site: www.sacredroad.org.Others saw ancient Hindusymbolism because that cultureused a horse's head as the “death& rebirth of the Sun;” perhaps areference to the highly-unusualsolar flare activity of recent

months. Certainly it seemed a portent of the birthpangs of the new Sun or World Age foretold for ourera by virtually all indigenous cultures, world wide.

Kallista and I both felt the overall design of theCeltic cross (or 4 Directions), perhaps humanity'soldest spiritual symbol, surrounding (protecting?)the complex inner “message circle” was significantand that the formation related to upcoming Earth. Itmay also be significant that it came at the Celticholiday of Lamas (8/8/05), half-way between theSummer Solstice and Autumn Equinox.

Amazingly, on August 26, just 17 days after theMarden Celtic Cross; a second circle occurred inthe very same field. It was a 200-foot long oval“Eye,” not unlike that at Silbury Hill, also with around center of laid-down crop but instead ofcurving “legs” or energy flows, the central circlewas surrounded by four rings. Each ring consistedof 18-diamond shapes of standing crop, gettingprogressively smaller so that each point touched thetip of the next smaller ring. It lined up directly withthe August 9th formation, again drawing attentionto Marden. We'd already left England by the time itappeared but the aerial photos show it was preciseand beautiful.

Merlin's MoundThe third Neolithic mound in Wiltshire is

currently surrounded by Marlborough School, oneof England's most prestigious private schools likean Eton or a Harrow. Known as “Merlin's Mound,”its top third was cut off 100 years ago and steps putup one side. Although circles have appeared aroundMarlborough for several years, August 13-14marked the first time that Francine Blake'sWiltshire Crop Circle Study Group used the schoolgrounds for their summer conference. It took placein the shadow of Merlin's Mound; one week afterthe first Marden circle appeared, therebyaccentuating all three mound locations for the first

formations were clearly related and helpedconfirm what I and a few other researchers havebeen saying for years: the crop circle phenomenonand Mayan calendar share a close relationship, themeaning of which will only be recognized as weapproach the 2012 change-over date.

The first Oxfordshire formation wasdiscovered next to Wayland's Smithy, a Neolithiclong barrow (oval burial mound) on August 9, thesame morning as the Marden formation. About180 feet in diameter, it consisted of severalconcentric rings of laid-down crop in which wereinscribed 20 identical “boxes” containing thesame Maya style glyph. A second ring featuredthe 4 Directions, plus 16 non-identical bar-glyphsand a central Vesica Pisces containing a largecrescent moon plus 16 “feathers” of standing cropon one side with two arcs opposite them. Our tourgroup, who visited it on August 10, immediatelyfelt it was connected to the Heart Chakra. Thecentral area within the moon crescent wasparticularly powerful and drew people togetherfor conversation, relaxation and meditation.Though one couldn't see the Smithy mound for itscanopy of trees, its energies were also clearly feltthroughout the field as it had radiated onto thispiece of land for over 5,000 years. Several of ourgroup dowsed for information using the copperrods that Kallista and I lent them; one lady foundthat her tiny crystal skull on a silver chain madean excellent pendulum. There were energy hot-spots everywhere and the grain literally popped. We spent over an hour happily exploring, endingin the center holding hands and toning seven Omstogether, before heading back to our hotel.Everyone realized this was the kind of first-hand crop circle experience they'd traveled toEngland for- which couldn't come from photos, however beautiful.

Noted Mexican UFO researcher and TVreporter, Jaime Maussan, was so moved by thefirst reports of the Wayland's Smithy formationthat he immediately flew to England to investigateit. He spoke at the WCCSG conference inMarlborough where we later ran into him. He toldus that, in his opinion, the formation definitelyrelated to the Mayan long count. Specifically, hesaid the formation highlighted two dates in 2012:May 20 (a “0” day on the Mayan calendar, symbolized by the arcs) when an annular solareclipse is predicted just as our sun aligns with thePleiades, and three weeks later, June 6, 2012, thedate of a rare Venus transit through the sun andthe only one before 12/21/2012. Venus transits,Pleiades alignments and solar eclipses were verysignificant to the ancient Maya. “We can expectmajor events to occur during those three weeks,”he commented.

An Australian scientist interviewed byinvestigative journalist Linda Moulton Howe(who will speak at Signs of Destiny 2005 inNovember), told her that the 8/9/05 formationprovided binary hexadecimal (base 16)information naming two dates: March 21, 2005,which he calls the “current date,” speculating that

time. Readers of my crop-circle articles will remember that the Francine Blake and WCCSG publish anannual Crop Circle Calendar; the only one to feature this year's best formations. Kallista and I havebeen its major US distributors since 1998. (www.chetsnow.com/calendars.html)

Having the chance to walk up Merlin's truncated mound due to the conference, I was intrigued bythe “coincidence” that this year all three Neolithic mound sites should suddenly be emphasized by cropcircles. Back in Sedona, I used my survey map of Wiltshire to see what geometry was involved. To mysurprise, I found that, within a degree, these three ancient mounds form a perfect 3-4-5 right angletriangle across the heart of the Vale of Pewsey. If extended into a rectangle, their fourth point landssmack on the Pewsey White Horse, a chalk figure etched into the hillside by local farmers and renewedperiodically for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Although the fields below that white horse have

seen crop circles in the past, there werenone there this season. Why not isanybody's guess.

Star of David- Love andGratitude

Several significant crop circles alsoappeared around Avebury Henge in 2005,including a nearly 400-foot “necklace” of 6diamonds and 6 hexagons, suspended on a

“chain” surrounding a huge Star of David, made up of 12 equilateral triangles. Found on July 24, a dayJapanese researcher Masaru Emoto had proclaimed “Love & Peace to Water Day”, its shape closelyapproximated that found by Emoto in water molecules after he wrote “love & gratitude” on the bottlecontaining test water. We were in this formation twice and each time felt it to bring peaceful andhealing energies. The center star was often used for group meditations.

This formation was followed by an equally large combination of circles and rings forming 4 hugeCeltic crosses with 19 mysterious small laid-down spirals in the shared central circle. This remindedmany of the Metonic cycle of the Moon - a key aspect of ancient astronomy and calendar making. Itarrived July 27 on the Mayan New Year (Haab calendar) and was followed two days later by a beautifuldelicate Celtic scroll design on a hillside paralleling Avebury's stone avenue.

Penrose TriangleEarlier, July 16, on Waden Hill overlooking Avebury Henge, a 200-foot circle design was

discovered by Sedona researcher and Native American artist, Rod Bearcloud Berry, who drove by thesite once at sunrise without seeing anything in the highly-visible field. Driving by again an hour later,he spotted it at once. A stunning design, it featured 24 of the same “Mayan” glyphs as had appeared in2004, scrolled around a large central circle in which were inscribed three swirling “7s” giving theillusion of three equilateral triangles. This “trompe l'oeil” figure is known to mathematicians as the“Penrose Triangle”. Unfortunately, that morning the farmer, known to dislike crop circles, angrilydrove his mower through the design. When we visited it a few hours later, all Kallista could feel wasthe energy of his anger and frustration. Fortunately, in this age of Photoshop, aerial photos were later“corrected” so viewers can appreciate the original intent of the circle-makers.

The other two major 2005 crop circle events concerned Oxfordshire, on Wiltshire's northern border. Both occurred late in the season and involved seldom visited fields. Both seemed to deal with theMayan calendar, destined to end its current long -count cycle on December 21, 2012. The two

this may have been when the 2005 circles weredesigned and August 17, 2007, or 229 days into theGregorian year 2007. I could find no significanteclipses or Venus or Pleiadian correspondence tothis 8/17/07 date (a total lunar eclipse will occur on8/28/07). It may simply be predicting another cropformation in this same series, although I certainlyhope we don't have to wait that long!

On August 13; another major Maya-relatedformation was discovered at Woolstone Hill, a milewest of Wayland's Smithy towards Uffington WhiteHorse. Pole-shots taken by the Crop CircleConnector photographers were shown at the end ofthe WCCSG conference. Our group entered itMonday morning just as Steve Alexander wastaking his excellent aerial photographs from a low-flying helicopter. As on August 10, we instantly feltthe Heart Chakra connection, but this time therewas no large flattened- area at the center for peopleto gather. Instead, six diamonds of standing anddowned wheat shaped a large Star of David pattern, very similar to July 24th's Avebury Hengeformation. The star was inscribed in a squaredcircle, around which was a larger square composedof 16 “boxes,” this square encircled by a still-largercircle of 72 (4 x 18) “feathers” and enclosed in a20-foot-wide ring of downed crop, making theoutermost circle about 360-feet across. Inside, onefelt caught up in a rectangle/circle maze dominatedby straight lines that shot out in all directions. Itwas exciting, exhilarating. After more than an hourwalking amongst the pieces of this gigantic puzzle,we left, spontaneously breaking in a Goddess songthat a couple of our group knew and taught to therest of us. It seemed highly appropriate as a tributeto Mother Earth in whose glory and bounty wewere delightedly sharing.

Still in England, Jaime Mausson alsoinvestigated the Woolstone Hill circle. Heconfirmed that the numbers 4, 6, 16, 18, 72, whichwere emphasized in the formation, relate directly toHunab Ku, the Mayan name for God. For him, thecircle foretold “the upcoming of a transcendentalknowledge, related to human beings, in the changeof an Era.” The Australian scientist interpretedwhat some felt might be a “flaw” in the design asdeliberate. In the 16 “boxes” surrounding the

central 6-pointed star, bars of standing crop wererotated at 90 degree angles so that all but two of theboxes made different designs. The “final” twoboxes, however, were identical. The Australian, who uses the pseudonym “C. Lewis” after thedeceased author of the Narnia Chronicles, interpreted this to mean that the final 1/16th of thelast Mayan cycle (the 52 years before 2012) wouldsomehow be different than the 15/16ths precedingit. In Western dates, this means that significantchanges to the way things are now can be expectedfrom June 2009 onwards. Thus, the twoOxfordshire circles may warn us to expect animportant precursor to these changes in mid-August2007 and that by June 2009; they will be with usthrough December 21, 2012. The Australianspeculated that these changes are most likelyviolent Earth Changes world-wide; predictable byastronomical methods we don't yet master, butknown to the circle-makers. He could be right!

In addition to intriguing and amazing us onceagain, the 2005 Crop Circles in England may offerus an important warning that only the unfolding offuture events will corroborate or belie. In thecontext of other major world dramas since lastautumn like the 12/26 tsunami and 8/30 Katrinadevastation, it is difficult not to agree that long-predicted Earth Changes have now actually begun. If, and I stress if, this is so, then it is up to us toredouble our efforts to encourage positive Earth-friendly initiatives while we prepare for moredisruptions to oursedentary way of life. Inmy book, Mass Dreamsof the Future, I tell of ap a r t i c u l a r l y - v i v i d“hypnotic progression” Iexperienced with the lateDr. Helen Wambach 20years ago. Although thefuture date assignedwas inaccurate, I feelthe experience remainsvalid. In it, progressedforward in this life, Ifound myself surroundedby non-physical, inter-

dimensional beings, whose purpose is to observewhat they called “the Shift” (major Earth Changes)occurring in our Era. Afterwards, they describedEarth as a garden with a few “gardeners” and a lotof “compost” or “tillers”. Their final words abouttoday's times were:

“Now once again is a time of preparation andperhaps also of initiation. For this is the time to getthe tools sharpened and to review good gardeningtechniques. The harvest is for tomorrow.”
