PRIZE FOR THE BEST CONTRIBUTION TO THE NRW COMPETITION

Memories do not follow a chronological order – nor does Britta Wandaogo’s film. Her 12-year-old daughter Kaddi thinks about the meaning of life and the role she plays in her German and African families. The filmmaker finds material in her archive which makes long-forgotten qualities and strengths visible to Kaddi. This very personal, almost intimate dialogue between the mother’s images and the daughters’s words shows how memories can be cultivated to make the here and now more comprehensible.

In the cosmos of Kaddi, there are no "correct" explanations - Why, how come, how! In her game of "What if”, she merges foreign with familiar and brings the past to the present. KROKODILE OHNE SATTEL - Ein dokumentarisches Roadmovie vom Glück man selbst zu sein! Im Gedankenkosmos der Kaddi Malika gibt es keine „richtigen“ Erklärungen - Warum Wieso Weshalb! In ihrem Gedankenspiel "Was wäre wenn …?" vermengt sie Fremdes mit Vertrautem und macht die Vergangenheit zur Gegenwart. Kaddi Malika stellt alles in Frage, ihr quirliges Selbstbewusstsein bröckelt. Sie denkt über Weltuntergänge und ein Leben im Himmel mit Kinos und Shopping Malls nach. Ein Wirrwarr mit sich selbst, in dem es scheinbar wenig Halt gibt.
