BACKGROUNDThe kaleidoscope is a tube of mirrors with colored objects. As the user looks through one end, light enters the other and creates beautiful patterns as reflections bounces off the mirrors.

To inject an aesthetic experience on the audiences' sub conscience.To further enhance the development of the audience's perspective about abstract art.To promote new form of media .

This installation was inspired by The Beatles, as well as an interactive flash application by Skymonk. http://lsdex.ru/tag/kaleidoscope/

Also, psychedelic art has always been a personal interest.

MOTIVATION

Colorscope is an installation of a projection on the wall that acts as a kaleidoscope. As the webcam detects movement of a person passing by, the design on the wall changes.

Through this installation, one can enhance the user experience through the interactivity involved.

IDEATION & CONCEPT

The design will include a kaleidoscope-type design projected on the wall. A webcam will detect the motion or movements of the subject and will change in accordance to their speed and height. Studies on the relation of human motion and colors will be applied to this project.

DESIGN APPROACH

PRECENDECE STUDIED: COLORS• Gives definition to a an object or substance•Leaves a strong imprint in one’s mind, 80% of the brain receives information in visual form.•People use colors and relate it to the natural phenomena•Colors evoke strong physiological and emotional responses

“A condition in which one type of sensory stimulation creates

perception in another sense.”

The importance of understanding synaesthesia:• We use the term of color to describe a basic range of elements• To apply the results gained in research which best suits the installation

IDEA DEVELOPMENTThe required devices for my project are very minimal.

A webcam is required to detect the movement, and a projector to the project the image on to a canvas.

IDEA DEVELOPMENTAdobe Flash CS4

In order to obtain the results that are needed, I will be using flash as my main software and code the program to get the correct response from the installation.

Zone Trigger is another essential program that I will use for my project. This program is used to detect the motion of the user.
