About the Mobile Critical Care Provider Program

1

The intent of this course is to provide the currently functioning paramedic, registered nurse, or other allied health professional with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to function in the inter-facility critical care realm, along side of other critical care providers. The topics are above and beyond the curricula for the Paramedic and RN, and as such, do not pertain directly to the EMS professional environment nor the traditional nursing roles in the hospital. There will be however, physiological concepts that will enhance your current practice as a Paramedic or registered nurse.

What are the attendance policies? Students must be present for all three skills sessions. If students have some scheduling conflicts with a lecture, they can attend live online from a computer, tablet, or smart phone. Students can attend the lecture component anywhere on the globe with internet access as long as they are onsite for the skills section.

Can I review the lectures? All of the lectures will be recorded. Lectures will be posted within 48 hours following the class.

Who will be lecturing? There will be a variety of lecturers in multiple specialties with a wide array of backgrounds. Lecturers will include physicians, critical care paramedics, critical care nurses, mid-level practioners and respiratory therapists. The faculty has extensive experience in critical care transport by ground, rotor-wing, and fixed-wing.

Who should take this class? This class is designed for allied health professionals who currently work or have a desire to work in critical care transport. However, any advanced healthcare provider who regularly works with critical patients will benefit from the medical content within the course.

This program satisfies the critical care curriculum that is an emerging prerequisite for care providers responsible for the treatment and transport of critically ill or injured patients via ground or air units. Emphasis will include 12-lead ECG’s, RSI, ICP monitoring, X-ray interpretation, ABG analysis, advanced pharmacology, central line monitoring, hemodynamic pressure interpretation, chest tube management, escharotomies, flight physiology, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs), high-risk OB/GYN and neonatology, and other topics relevant to the critical care environment.
