Christ Our KingDear People and Friends of San Juan Bautista,

As we conclude another liturgicalyear, today’s Feast of Christ the Kingrefocuses our attention on the Power ofGod and our response to it. In the NiceneCreed, we profess that God isomnipotent; “We believe in one God, theFather Almighty.” In fact, the Scripturesare filled with references to the LORD asthe Almighty and All-powerful One:

For with you great strength abidesalways; who can resist the might ofyour arm? Indeed, before you thewhole universe is as a grain from abalance, or a drop of morning dewcome down upon the earth. (Wisdom11:21-22)

When Israel saw the Egyptians lyingdead on the seashore and beheld thegreat power that the LORD had shownagainst the Egyptians, they feared theLORD. Then Moses and the Israelites

sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, forhe is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has castinto the sea. Your right hand, O LORD, magnificent inpower, your right hand, O LORD, has shattered theenemy. (Exodus 14:30-31,15:1, 6)

O Lord, great are you and glorious, wonderful in powerand unsurpassable. The mountains to their bases, and theseas, are shaken; the rocks, like wax, melt before yourglance (Judith 16:13,15)

If we acknowledge the absolute power of God, therecan only be one response: Obedience. When weunderstand that the LORD’s power is exercised mostwondrously through our crucified and risen Lord JesusChrist, then one attitude must dominate all others:Thankfulness. If our shouts of “Viva Cristo Rey! QueViva!” are to be more than mere words, we must submitourselves to the kingship of Christ through obedience andpresent each day as a living sacrifice of thanksgiving toGod by the way we live.

Stewardship is the concrete, practical way we directour lives by obedience and demonstrate true thankfulnessand generosity to God. A stewardship attitudeacknowledges everything as a blessing from God—Time,Talent, Treasure, Prayer—to be used well and shared,because they are not MINE, but gifts entrusted to me tobuild up God’s kingdom and to serve our king.

Thank you to all who have made a personal andgenerous financial commitment to the Lord through ourStewardship campaign. If your family did not make acommitment, you can fill out the pledge form and place it inthe collection next Sunday. Thank you for being goodstewards through sharing your Time, Talent, Treasure andPrayer.

Al concluir otro año litúrgico, la fiesta deCristo Rey vuelve a concentrar nuestra atención enel Poder de Dios y nuestra respuesta a El. En elCredo de Nicea, profesamos que Dios esomnipotente, “Creemos en un solo Dios, PadreTodopoderoso”. De hecho, las Sagradas Escriturasen todo momento se refieren al Señor como elTodopoderoso y Omnipotente:

Tú siempre puedes utilizar tu poder. ¿Quién va aresistir la fuerza de tu brazo? El mundo entero esante ti como un gramo en la balanza, como gotade rocío matutino sobre la tierra. (Sabiduría11:21-22)

Aquel día salvó Yahvé a Israel del poder de losegipcios; e Israel vio a los egipcios muertos aorillas del mar. Al comprobar los israelitas lamano poderosa que Yahvé había desplegadocontra los egipcios, temieron a Yahvé y creyeronen Yahvé y en Moisés, su siervo. Cantaré a mi Dios un cantar nuevo: “¡Tú eres grande,Señor, eres glorioso, maravilloso, admirable en poder einsuperable!” Pues los montes, desde sus cimientos, seránsacudidos con las aguas; las rocas en tu presencia sefundirán como cera; pero con aquellos que te temen, temuestras tu siempre propicio. (Judith 16:13,15).

Si reconocemos el poder absoluto de Dios, sólo puedehaber una respuesta: Obediencia. Cuando entendemos queel poder del SEÑOR es ejercido extraordinariamente através de Jesucristo nuestro Señor crucificado y resucitado,entonces, una opinión debe dominar todas las demás:Agradecimiento. Si nuestro grito “¡Viva Cristo Rey! QueViva!”, este tiene que ser más que palabras, debemossometernos a la majestad de Cristo por medio de laobediencia y presentarle cada día como un sacrificio vivode alabanza a Dios por la forma en que vivimos.

La Corresponsabilidad es la forma sólida y prácticaen la cual dirigimos nuestra vida obedeciendo ydemostrando una verdadera gratitud y generosidad a Dios.La actitud de corresponsabilidad reconoce que todo es unabendición de Dios—Tiempo, Talento, Tesoro, Oración—han de ser bien utilizados y compartidos, porque no sonMIOS, sino que son regalos que me han confiado paraedificar el Reino de Dios y servir a nuestro rey.

Gracias a todos los que han hecho su compromisofinanciero y generoso con el Señor por medio de nuestracampaña de Corresponsabilidad.
