SAVE THE DATE!The next Quarterly Crisis Coordinator meeting is Wednesday, October 13, 2021 1pm-2pm via Teams. This meeting will focus on the Crisis Coordinator role in an active attack scenario.

Training While Emergency Management training continues to be affected by COVID-19, future planning will be the topic ofdiscussions this month as OEM Staff andCrisis Coordinator Representatives from bothcampuses meet to plan revisions and updates forthe next calendar year training. All Crisis Coordinators are welcome to contact Wayne or Christy should you wish to suggest a specific class.

Expanding Capabilities Kennesaw State Crisis Coordinators are fortunate to have a very sound radio network, with solid radios, strong repeaters, and direct communication to the KSU Police Dispatch Center. Important to note not all schools have this expanded and extensive communications capability. That being said, we have additional opportunities for expanding ourcapabilities utilizing the American Radio Relay League and Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

Crisis Coordinator and the COVID-19 ResponseCrisis Coordinators' role in COVID response increased in September. Specifically, we asked CC's to monitor designated buildings to assure there is a stockpile of masks available.

OEM identified several buildings on both campuses where masks are available. We would appreciate it if you would monitor your respective buildings and advise OEM when stocks are low. OEM will provide additional masks, as needed. As CC's, should you wish to keep a case of masks in your office to replenish, we will deliver them to you. Please contact us at [email protected] to let us know.

We all have the responsibility to support students, faculty, and staff as we navigate through this pandemic. This support includes advising your building occupants as to what is available to them. Here is what is available to everyone:

• Vaccines and COVID testing at all KSU Student HealthClinics

• Face masks (cloth and disposable)• Hand sanitizers• Wipes• Sanitizers• And much more!

Just email us at [email protected]!

October is Fire Prevention Month! The goal of Fire Prevention Month (and week October 3rd – 9th) is to raise fire safety awareness, and help ensure your home and family is protected. In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) named the second week of October Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Today, we celebrate Fire Prevention Week and Month by raising fire safety awareness and educating families, students and communities across the United States. During this month, fire departments provide education to their communities, and encourage parents and loved ones to practice fire prevention and whole home safety. KSU Fire and Life Safety Manager Steve Ingram shares important Fire Safety Tips to assure a fire safe university!

KSU Safety Tips

• Always look for fully sprinklered housing when choosing a dorm or off-campushousing.• Make sure you can hear the building alarm system when you are in your dormroom.• Fires in dormitories are more common during the evening hours, between 5–11pm, and on weekends.• Six out of seven fires in dormitories are started by cooking.• If you live in a dormitory, make sure your sleeping room has a smoke alarm, oryour dormitory suite has a smoke alarm in each living area as well as the sleepingroom. For the best protection, all smoke alarms in the dormitory suite should be interconnected so that when one sounds, they all sound. • Never remove batteries or disable smoke alarm.• Learn your building’s evacuation plan and practice all drills as if they were the realthing.• If you live off campus, have a fire escape plan with two ways out of every room.• When the smoke alarm or fire alarm sounds, get out of the building quickly andstay out.• Stay in the kitchen when cooking.• Cook only when you are alert, not sleepy or drowsy from medicine or alcohol.• Check your school's rules for any restrictions before using a barbeque grill or firepit• Check your school’s rules before using electrical appliances in your room.

Contact Steve at "[email protected]" and have a FIRE SAFE fall season!
