What is an “Active Shooter”
An active shooter is a person who is actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people, using a firearm(s), in a populated area.
These situations are dynamic and evolve rapidly, demanding immediate deployment of law enforcement resources to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to innocent victims.
How Will I Get Information during an Active Shooter Incident?
Public Information Officer will coordinate communication efforts
Information will be disseminated as soon as practicable
Methods of communication are as follows:
75+ Building Safety Assistants Personal direction, bullhorns, FRS radios Gov’t Emergency Telecom Service / GETS, WPS Ham radio in the EOC, five licensed operators

Call 9-1-1 (from any campus phone) to report an emergency
Program 510-885-3333 into your cell phone (use this number when reporting a campus emergency from a cell phone)
Be succinct and specific when reporting an emergency
DO NOT CALL UPD DISPATCH FOR GENERAL INFO. DURING AN EMERGENCY (call 510-885-2000)
Additional Reminders:
Make safety discussions a part of your regular office/classroom routine.
The goal is to be “mindful, not fearful!”
