The Contractor is responsible for checking all dimensions, levels and co-ordinates on site before commencing the Works. Fire Strategy 4. For general arrangement of the Fire Strategy refer to the L(69) drawing series. 5. Different Occupation: The different occupiers of the building (Secondary School, Library, Facilities Management & Community Rooms) will be managed under a single management regime by the Facilities Management Contractor. The building will have a common fire alarm and detection system, and will operate a common fire evacuation management procedure. Safety 6. Accessible Entrances: All pupil and staff main entrance doors are designed as accessible entrances with accessible thresholds. 7. Internal doors: All internal doors have a minimum clear width of 850mm, except the following doors for which widths are noted where required for escape: - Doors on escape routes in corridors (double doors clear width 1675mm) - Doors into escape stairs (double doors clear width 1675mm) - Final exit doors (double doors clear width as per fire strategy plans) - Store doors - Toilet/changing cubicle doors. 8. Lift: Compliance with Standard 4.2.7 is provided by a passenger lift manufactured and installed in accordance with BS EN 81-70: 2003. Reaction of lift to fire to be in compliance with BE EN 81-73: 2005. A clear landing at least 1.5 m x 1.5 m in front of any lift entrance door is provided as shown. Lift system to incorporate the following: - Controls on each level are to be located between 900mm and 1.1m above the landing FFL, and within the lift car on a side wall between 900mm and 1.1m above the car floor and at least 400 mm from any corner. - Landing controls on each storey to include tactile call buttons and visual and tactile indication of the storey level. - Lift doors, handrails and controls are to contrast visually with surrounding surfaces. - Lift to be provided with a signalling system which gives notification that the lift is answering a call made from a landing. - Lifts to be provided with a means of two way communication that allows contact with the lift if an alarm is activated, together with visual indicators that alarm has been sounded and received. This is to be operable by a person with a hearing impairment. - Automatic lift doors are to have a clear opening width of at least 800mm and be fitted with sensors that will prevent injury from contact with closing doors - Lift car internal dimensions to be at least 1.1m wide by 1.4m deep and contain a horizontal handrail, of a size and section that is easily gripped, located 900mm above the floor on all walls except the one containing the door. - Mirror to be provided on the wall facing the doors, above handrail height. -Within the lift car storey selector buttons to be tactile and, in lift serving more than 2 storeys, visual and voice indicators of the storey reached are to be provided. - Lifts to be supplied with a system which permits adjustment of the dwell time after which the lift doors close, once fully opened, to suit the level of use. - The landing controls and lift car controls are to be of a type that do not operate on heat or pressure resulting from a fire. 9. Collision with projections: Windows at ground level shall have all opening casements fitted with a limiting stay to prevent it opening further than 100mm. 10. Collision with glazing: All glazing less than 800mm above floor level to be toughened safety glass in accordance with BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. Large areas of glazing shall be provided with manifestation as recommended in BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. This shall be in the form of adhesive vinyl applied to the glass. 11. Access to manual controls: All controls that are intended for operation by the occupants shall be installed in positions that allow safe and convenient use: Windows All openable windows that are operable by the occupants to provide natural ventilation shall have controls for opening positioned at least 350mm from any internal corner, projecting wall or similar obstruction and at a height of not more than: 1.7m above floor level where access to controls is unobstructed. 1.5m above floor level, where access to controls is limited by a fixed obstruction not more than 900mm high which projects not more than 600mm in front of the position of the controls (such as fitted furniture). Where obstruction is greater, a remote means of opening, in an unobstructed location, shall be provided. This shall be at not more than 1.0m above floor level, in an unobstructed location, in any room intended specifically for use by a wheelchair user. Electrical fixtures Outlets and controls of electrical fixtures and systems shall be positioned at least 350mm from any internal corner, projecting wall or similar obstruction, and at not more than 1.2m above floor level. Light switches shall be positioned at a height of between 900mm and 1.1m above floor level. Standard switched or unswitched socket outlets and outlets for other services shall be positioned at least 400mm above floor level. Above an obstruction, such as a worktop, fixtures shall be at least 150mm above the projecting surface. In accommodation specifically intended for wheelchair users operable controls shall be located at a height of not more than 1.0m above floor level. Where sockets are concealed such as to the rear of built-in appliances, or obstructed by built-in furniture, separate switching shall be provided in an accessible position, to allow appliances to be isolated. Sanitary Facilities 12. Fire Strategy4. For general arrangement of the Fire Strategy refer to the L(69) drawing series.5. Different Occupation: The different occupiers of the building (Secondary School, Library,Facilities Management & Community Rooms) will be managed under a single managementregime by the Facilities Management Contractor. The building will have a common fire alarmand detection system, and will operate a common fire evacuation management procedure.

Safety6. Accessible Entrances: All pupil and staff main entrance doors are designed as accessibleentrances with accessible thresholds.7. Internal doors: All internal doors have a minimum clear width of 850mm, except the followingdoors for which widths are noted where required for escape:- Doors on escape routes in corridors (double doors clear width 1675mm)- Doors into escape stairs (double doors clear width 1675mm)- Final exit doors (double doors clear width as per fire strategy plans)- Store doors- Toilet/changing cubicle doors.8. Lift: Compliance with Standard 4.2.7 is provided by a passenger lift manufactured andinstalled in accordance with BS EN 81-70: 2003. Reaction of lift to fire to be in compliance withBE EN 81-73: 2005. A clear landing at least 1.5 m x 1.5 m in front of any lift entrance door isprovided as shown. Lift system to incorporate the following:- Controls on each level are to be located between 900mm and 1.1m above the landing FFL,and within the lift car on a side wall between 900mm and 1.1m above the car floor and at least400 mm from any corner.- Landing controls on each storey to include tactile call buttons and visual and tactile indicationof the storey level.- Lift doors, handrails and controls are to contrast visually with surrounding surfaces.- Lift to be provided with a signalling system which gives notification that the lift is answering acall made from a landing.- Lifts to be provided with a means of two way communication that allows contact with the lift ifan alarm is activated, together with visual indicators that alarm has been sounded and received.This is to be operable by a person with a hearing impairment.- Automatic lift doors are to have a clear opening width of at least 800mm and be fitted withsensors that will prevent injury from contact with closing doors- Lift car internal dimensions to be at least 1.1m wide by 1.4m deep and contain a horizontalhandrail, of a size and section that is easily gripped, located 900mm above the floor on all wallsexcept the one containing the door.- Mirror to be provided on the wall facing the doors, above handrail height. -Within the lift car storey selector buttons to be tactile and, in lift serving more than 2 storeys,visual and voice indicators of the storey reached are to be provided.- Lifts to be supplied with a system which permits adjustment of the dwell time after which the liftdoors close, once fully opened, to suit the level of use.- The landing controls and lift car controls are to be of a type that do not operate on heat orpressure resulting from a fire.9. Collision with projections: Windows at ground level shall have all opening casements fittedwith a limiting stay to prevent it opening further than 100mm.10. Collision with glazing: All glazing less than 800mm above floor level to be toughened safetyglass in accordance with BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. Large areas of glazing shall be provided withmanifestation as recommended in BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. This shall be in the form of adhesivevinyl applied to the glass.11. Access to manual controls: All controls that are intended for operation by the occupants shallbe installed in positions that allow safe and convenient use:

WindowsAll openable windows that are operable by the occupants to provide natural ventilation shallhave controls for opening positioned at least 350mm from any internal corner, projecting wall orsimilar obstruction and at a height of not more than:1.7m above floor level where access to controls is unobstructed.1.5m above floor level, where access to controls is limited by a fixed obstruction not more than900mm high which projects not more than 600mm in front of the position of the controls (such asfitted furniture).

Where obstruction is greater, a remote means of opening, in an unobstructedlocation, shall be provided. This shall be at not more than 1.0m above floor level, in anunobstructed location, in any room intended specifically for use by a wheelchair user.

Electrical fixturesOutlets and controls of electrical fixtures and systems shall be positioned at least 350mm fromany internal corner, projecting wall or similar obstruction, and at not more than 1.2m above floorlevel.

Light switches shall be positioned at a height of between 900mm and 1.1m above floor level.

Standard switched or unswitched socket outlets and outlets for other services shall bepositioned at least 400mm above floor level. Above an obstruction, such as a worktop, fixturesshall be at least 150mm above the projecting surface.

In accommodation specifically intended for wheelchair users operable controls shall be locatedat a height of not more than 1.0m above floor level.

Where sockets are concealed such as to the rear of built-in appliances, or obstructed by built-infurniture, separate switching shall be provided in an accessible position, to allow appliances tobe isolated.

Sanitary Facilities12. Pupil Toilets:The numbers of sanitary facilities for pupils have been calculated and providedin accordance with:

The building will have a common fire alarmand detection system, and will operate a common fire evacuation management procedure.

Safety6. Accessible Entrances: All pupil and staff main entrance doors are designed as accessibleentrances with accessible thresholds.7. Internal doors: All internal doors have a minimum clear width of 850mm, except the followingdoors for which widths are noted where required for escape:- Doors on escape routes in corridors (double doors clear width 1675mm)- Doors into escape stairs (double doors clear width 1675mm)- Final exit doors (double doors clear width as per fire strategy plans)- Store doors- Toilet/changing cubicle doors.8. Lift: Compliance with Standard 4.2.7 is provided by a passenger lift manufactured andinstalled in accordance with BS EN 81-70: 2003. Reaction of lift to fire to be in compliance withBE EN 81-73: 2005. A clear landing at least 1.5 m x 1.5 m in front of any lift entrance door isprovided as shown. Lift system to incorporate the following:- Controls on each level are to be located between 900mm and 1.1m above the landing FFL,and within the lift car on a side wall between 900mm and 1.1m above the car floor and at least400 mm from any corner.- Landing controls on each storey to include tactile call buttons and visual and tactile indicationof the storey level.- Lift doors, handrails and controls are to contrast visually with surrounding surfaces.- Lift to be provided with a signalling system which gives notification that the lift is answering acall made from a landing.- Lifts to be provided with a means of two way communication that allows contact with the lift ifan alarm is activated, together with visual indicators that alarm has been sounded and received.This is to be operable by a person with a hearing impairment.- Automatic lift doors are to have a clear opening width of at least 800mm and be fitted withsensors that will prevent injury from contact with closing doors- Lift car internal dimensions to be at least 1.1m wide by 1.4m deep and contain a horizontalhandrail, of a size and section that is easily gripped, located 900mm above the floor on all wallsexcept the one containing the door.- Mirror to be provided on the wall facing the doors, above handrail height. -Within the lift car storey selector buttons to be tactile and, in lift serving more than 2 storeys,visual and voice indicators of the storey reached are to be provided.- Lifts to be supplied with a system which permits adjustment of the dwell time after which the liftdoors close, once fully opened, to suit the level of use.- The landing controls and lift car controls are to be of a type that do not operate on heat orpressure resulting from a fire.9. Collision with projections: Windows at ground level shall have all opening casements fittedwith a limiting stay to prevent it opening further than 100mm.10. Collision with glazing: All glazing less than 800mm above floor level to be toughened safetyglass in accordance with BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. Large areas of glazing shall be provided withmanifestation as recommended in BS 6262: Part 4: 2005. This shall be in the form of adhesivevinyl applied to the glass.11. Access to manual controls: All controls that are intended for operation by the occupants shallbe installed in positions that allow safe and convenient use:

WindowsAll openable windows that are operable by the occupants to provide natural ventilation shallhave controls for opening positioned at least 350mm from any internal corner, projecting wall orsimilar obstruction and at a height of not more than:1.7m above floor level where access to controls is unobstructed.1.5m above floor level, where access to controls is limited by a fixed obstruction not more than900mm high which projects not more than 600mm in front of the position of the controls (such asfitted furniture).

Where obstruction is greater, a remote means of opening, in an unobstructedlocation, shall be provided. This shall be at not more than 1.0m above floor level, in anunobstructed location, in any room intended specifically for use by a wheelchair user.

Electrical fixturesOutlets and controls of electrical fixtures and systems shall be positioned at least 350mm fromany internal corner, projecting wall or similar obstruction, and at not more than 1.2m above floorlevel.

Light switches shall be positioned at a height of between 900mm and 1.1m above floor level.

Standard switched or unswitched socket outlets and outlets for other services shall bepositioned at least 400mm above floor level. Above an obstruction, such as a worktop, fixturesshall be at least 150mm above the projecting surface.

In accommodation specifically intended for wheelchair users operable controls shall be locatedat a height of not more than 1.0m above floor level.

Where sockets are concealed such as to the rear of built-in appliances, or obstructed by built-infurniture, separate switching shall be provided in an accessible position, to allow appliances tobe isolated.
