GREAT HOMOPHONE CHALLENGE WINNERS Congratulations to 5/6E who won the Great Homophone Challenge for 2018 and are now proudly displaying the magnificent trophy in their classroom. It was a narrow margin between all four primary classes and i was really impressed with not only their skills at discovering homophones but their understanding of the different meanings and usage, also their accuracy with spelling those tricky words! Our students would put many adults to shame with their skills. I believe each of the primary classes were winners and I am so proud of their efforts and enthusiasm. Congratulations to them all. The more we talk about and understand this difficult English language the more literate we become. Over the remaining weeks in library we will be using homophones, synonyms, similes and metaphors in our writing. aggressive dog

SCRIPTURE CONCERT

Last Friday our Scripture students treated us to a very special concert. Each of our four scripture classes had been preparing songs and dances each centered around the Christian message of Christmas. The finale of this was a nativity play performed by our Stage 3 students. We would like to thank Mrs Osborne and all of our Scripture teachers for volunteering their time to teach our children about the scriptures.

NEW LIBRARY BAGS

Many new bright library bags have just been finished and are in the Library for sale for $7. Great Christmas presents and you will be ready to start 2019 with a new personal library bag to protect our amazing books. Pop into the library or front desk to select one.

2019 LEADERSHIP SPEECHES

This afternoon ten of our bravest Year 5 Students gave their campaign speeches to their peers and our teachers. These students showed remarkable resilience by arguing their case for election to our student leadership team next year. We are very proud of each and every one of them and know that although not every one of them will be elected, they all have shown the courage and conviction required to do the job. Congratulations to all who spoke today.

STOCKTAKE IS UNDERWAY

Stocktake is underway in the library. Could you PLEASE PLEASE have a good look at home for any Crescent Head Public School Library books that have escaped and are hiding? All our books are covered and have a CHPS bar code on the back. If a library overdue notice has been sent home can you please contact Mrs V at the school if you are unable to find the book? As you can appreciate the stocktake is a huge job that is done while the Library staff are still teaching, so any assistance you can give by returning books or donating an hour or so to volunteer in the library (particularly Tuesdays and Wednesdays) would be really appreciated.

YEAR 6 MELVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ORIENTATION TUESDAY 4TH DECEMBER

An Orientation Day for incoming Year 7 students will be held on Tuesday 4 December at Melville High School. Students from all of Melville High School’s “feeder” schools will attend the official orientation day. They will have an opportunity to work with their future classmates, become more familiar with the physical layout of the school and meet many of their future teachers. This is an exciting time for these students who will answer the myriad of questions that they might have about this next phase of their education. Students need to be in their primary school uniform and bring their school bag, an exercise book and pencil case, food for recess and a drink. Melville High will provide a sausage sizzle for lunch for all Year 6 students. The canteen will also be available to students on the day. Arrangement has been made for Year 6 students to travel free-of-charge on Busways and Cavanaghs on that day so that students can get used to bus travel to high school for next year. Parents are welcome to attend the Orientation Day assembly at 8.55am and a guided tour of the school will follow afterwards. The Year 7 book pack, calculators, apron and hats will be available for purchase on the day. Access to the Melville second hand clothing pool will also be available on this day. P&C DINNER THURSDAY 6TH DECEMBER CRESCENT HEAD COUNTRY CLUB @ 5.30PM

This Thursday evening our P&C will be holding their final meeting for the year. This meeting will be held at the Crescent Head Country Club and will include our annual end of the year dinner. This will be a very special meeting as it will be the last meeting for many of our very hard working and long serving P&C members who will be leaving us at the end of the year. I would encourage all to attend this dinner and say thank you to these wonderful parents who have brought so much to our school.

ICON ASSEMBLY FRIDAY 7TH DECEMBER @ 10AM

This Friday morning we will be hosting our final Icon Assembly for the year. For the majority of our students this assembly will recognise the past 38 weeks of schooling where they have each week proven to themselves that they know, can identify in their own behaviour and can consistently display our 5C behaviours. This assembly will begin in our school hall at 10am. All are encouraged to attend to support the achievements of our students.

VOLUNTEERS MORNING TEA THIS FRIDAY 7T H DECEMBER @ 11AM

Following our final Icon Assembly we will be hosting our annual morning tea to thank the volunteers who give up their own time for our students. Our staff will be providing light refreshments as a small gesture to all those parents, carers, grandparents and community members who each week assist with reading groups, maths groups, help out in the library, cover books, prepare and serve meals in our canteen and the many other tasks across our school year that have been enhanced through an extra set of hands. We invite all volunteers to join us on Friday 7th December at approximately 11am in the school Library. WIN BIN LUNCH

Congratulations to the winners of our final Win Bin draw who have won a place at Thursday’s Win Bin dinner – Leila Sharman, Mannix Baillie, Patrick Browning, Finlay Harper, Lucas Brown, Marlie Van Hugten, Preston Suttle, Charlie Arden, Levi Henry and Kobi Howarth. WEBSITE PHOTOS

THANK YOU MR FORMBY AND MR MEYN

Mr Meyn and Mr Formby are third year teaching students from Newcastle University’s Ourimbah campus who have been working in 3/4D and 5/6M for the past 4 weeks. During their time in our school they have developed and implemented lessons, taken part in our whole school swimming program, taken surfing lessons and taken part in excursions. Both teachers have quickly built a positive rapport with our children and have shown themselves to be both hard working and competent. Friday is their last day at our school following very successful practicums. We wish them all the best in their final years of study and hope to see them back with us again after graduation.
