Tipping Competition Info & Entry
The township was
originally named
Cunninghame, the
Post Office of that
name opening on 5
February 1870. It
was renamed
Lakes Entrance on
1 January 1915.
On Monday 16th March, I had the pleasure of attending the
inaugural East Gippsland Tourism Summit, specifically
targeting local business and how we can benefit from
international visitors. The summit had guest speakers such as
Mayor Peter Neale, Melanie De Souza (Tourism Victoria), Garry
Burns (Director of Marketing, Sovereign Hill), Paul Cooper
(Sydney-Melbourne Touring), some local business owners from
Kickback Cottages, Goat & Goose B&B and Waverly House
Cottages, as well as Terry Robinson (Destination
Gippsland - pictured top right) and speakers from
East Gippsland Marketing, Business & Tourism East
Gippsland and East Gippsland Shire. It was a
fantastic turn out (over 70 guests and speakers) with
a delicious lunch with local cuisine samples. I am
looking forward to applying some of the great ideas
mentioned and making sure that the Lakes Entrance
Bowls Club is Internationally Ready!

Bowls Club Face Lift The Lakes Entrance Bowls Club
has recently had some
cosmetic improvements to the
signage at the main entry.
The old sign and logo was
taken down and replaced by a
modern neon sign with light
up logos. It especially looks
fantastic at night because it
lights up the front and draws
more attention to the venue
as Rowe Street can be very
dark at night.

signs being installed

This Sticky Date Pudding
is one of those easy
crowd pleasers that
even the kids will eat! I
also like to do in
ramekins for a cute
little individual dessert!
Ingredients:
250g pitted dates finely
chopped
1 1/2 cups of boiling water
1 teaspoon of bicarbonate
soda
125g butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups self raising flour
Caramel Sauce:
1 cup brown sugar
300ml thickened cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
60g butter
Method:
Step 1, Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease and line the base of a 7cm deep, 22cm (base) cake pan.
Step 2, Place dates and bicarbonate soda into bowl. Pour over boiling water. Allow to stand for
20mins.
Step 3, Using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and vanilla until pale and creamy, Add eggs 1 at a
time, beating well after each addition. Using a large metal spoon, fold through date mixture and
flour until well combined.
Step 4, Spoon mixture into cake pan, Bake for 35-40min or until a skewer comes out clean. Turn on-
to plate.
Step 5, to make sauce combine all ingredients on saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring often
until boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 2 mins.
Serve pudding with sauce and cream or ice-cream! Delicious!

MARCH!!!
Midweek Pennant Division One Gold with the flag.
Men’s President’s Handicap
payed early in the month saw
Paul Darling (right) the winner
over Gerry Clarke.
The usual monthly events have been occurring in amongst the Pennant Finals. The Members open
triples on 4th February had a field of twenty-four teams with only one three game winner – Val
Collins, Dulcie James & Doris Axisa took the winning prizemoney for the day.
Wednesday 11th February saw twenty-six teams enjoying the day in the Monthly Nominated Tri-
ples. Barry Roberts, Harley Johnson & Brad Lancaster had some big scores (3 wins, +53 in total)
to claim the win.
Monday 23rd February we had a fun morning of “Jack Attack” under instruction from Steve
Glasson, Kelvin Kerkow, & Nigel Smith (Bowls Australia). Some members took the opportunity to
get some extra coaching before a “question & answer” session inside.
Tuesday 24th February was a Mixed Two Bowl Triples Tournament run by the Ladies’ section.
Twenty-two teams (unfortunately only four visiting teams) enjoyed the good weather & good bowl-
ing. Some big scores in all the games made for some interesting results at the end of the day.
Winner: E. Spence, R. McKay, L. Gallyot – 3 wins, +44, 31 ends
Runnerup: S. Berlingeri, B. Rosati, L. Rosati – 3 wins, +44, 30 ends
3rd Place: K. Brandhoj, J. Kool, M, Brandhoj – 3 wins, +42
The Ladies’ Club Pairs was
rescheduled in February.
Margaret Brandhoj & Lena Rosati
were the winners over Margaret
Ward & Linda Gallyot.
Marg & Lena will play in the East
Gippsland Champion of Champions.

Bowls doesn’t stop with pennant – there are still club events, tournaments and social bowls
to keep us occupied. Keep looking at the boards for dates, etc.
Best wishes also to Chris Kool, Marg Brandhoj & Lena Rosati in the Region Sides Champion-
ship 18th & 19th March at Murray Downs.
