Parenting Coordination (PC) is a very specific form of alternative dispute resolution for high conflict families. Its goal is to reduce the ongoing conflict between the parents, shielding the child(ren) from the conflict while providing an avenue of conflict resolution in a timely focused fashion outside of the Courtroom and ongoing litigation. The scope of authority for the Coordinator is laid out from the onset to include assessment, coaching, case and conflict management and certain decision making functions over identified parenting issues. PC is a case and conflict management service that is utilized for the implementation and clarification of the parenting plan. As such, the engagement of a Parenting Coordinator requires a contract and court order.

Attorney Brown remains hands on with the parents at all times. He may utilize a variety of methods for meeting and communicating with the parents to facilitate the parenting plan and troubleshoot the parenting issues. He may also utilize and conference with other professionals involved with the family, including but not limited to, mental health professionals and guardian ad litems. The process may also include the child(ren), if necessary, for proper case management. The engagement of Attorney Brown as a PC may be done during the course of litigation to assist the parents in clarifying, modifying or implementing their parenting access plan; or post judgment in a case management capacity, facilitating the parenting access plan and resolving ongoing issues as they arise within the family and the plan.

Although the PC will work with the court system and may provide information and recommendations to the court, the process is conducted with the ideal that remaining out of the litigation stance of ongoing court proceedings is beneficial to the conflict resolution and in the best interests of child(ren).

Our mediation services provide a wide array of options to meet the needs of every family. These services may be engaged at any point of conflict for a family by the parents, or through counsel. Designed to provide families with the attention, skills and knowledge of professionals in an environment more conducive to resolution than the courtroom, they include Divorce Mediation, Parenting Access Mediation, Dual Discipline Custodial Mediation and Dual Discipline Financial Mediation.

In Divorce Mediation and Parenting Access Mediation, Attorney Brown works with the parents directly in a series of meetings designed to assist the parents in addressing all aspects of their finances and/or their parental relationship with each other and their child(ren). The focus of Parenting Access Mediation remains on the best interests of the child(ren) while maintaining a healthy relationship for all involved. Both types of mediation conclude with a legal document for execution by the parties and filing with the court encompassing all the terms and conditions of their finances and/or their parenting access plan that is necessary for that particular family. It is designed to be collaborative and cooperative in nature.

For parents and families struggling with a higher conflict situation, including but not limited to acrimony, poor communication skills, possible mental health and/or substance abuse issues, we offer Dual Discipline Custodial Mediation. The framework for this mediation is a gender neutral two professional approach via an experienced child focused attorney and an experienced child focused mental health professional. This joint Team will work with all the professionals involved in your case including counsel, guardian ad litems, attorneys for the minor child(ren), mental health professionals and evaluators. This mediation may be scheduled for a one day session or multiple sessions depending on the needs of the family and the progress at hand. The mediation sessions will be directed by the Team as the situation warrants to assist the family in moving forward with resolution. Once all custodial issues are resolved, Dual Discipline Financial Mediation is also offered with an experienced matrimonial attorney and an experienced financial expert.
