We have a strong belief in the power of

emotional intelligence. Now, that may sound

like a relatively new ‘buzzword’ but it’s actually

been around for years. It’s like going to the

greengrocers with mum back in the old days

when the grocer would welcome you by name

and ask how your new baby sister is getting on.

Then he’d pick up the bags that he’d already

packed because he knew you like to visit on a

Thursday after school, and he’d have popped in a

couple of free treats for the kids. Then he’d show

you a couple of new lines that he thought you

might like to try.

My point is that he had taken the time to deeply

understand every one of his customers as if they

were his only ones. And that’s awesome, but we

take it a little further; not just getting inside your

mind, but inside the mind of your customers

too. The successful greengrocers are those who

have taken those important steps to understand

not only what their customers buy, but how they

want to buy –

and they’ve changed their channels.

Not only does Torbay have to hold off

competition from other resorts around the UK,

our client also needs to make sure their guide

stands out amongst other local rivals. Our task

was to create a coherent, quality publication that

reflects the natural beauty of Torbay as well as

the diverse offering within its catchment area.

The experience in our team has given this guide

the edge consistently over the years and it is fast

becoming the leading source of information for

visitors to Torbay and South Devon.

This is a project that we feel honoured to have

worked on for the past 10 years. Each year, our

team work on the design elements and layout to

continually improve the user experience. We also

use our experience and communications network

to manage the advertisement process, achieving

the perfect blend of adverts and independent

information. Salcombe as a destination has, as a

result, developed into a beautiful, luxury brand

that never fails to attract visitors from around

the globe.

A focus on hero imagery and the family-friendly

environment was the key here. Location and

scenery is such an important factor for customers

when choosing their camping site, but can often

be overlooked. Our design and build team created

a beautiful, functional site that is easy to use and

stunning to look at. Our SEO team continually

work on the backend to make sure it’s at the front

of the pack.

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta carries

with it a sense of honour, majesty and prestige.

Visitors to the event would hardly know

that it is organised by a team of enthusiastic

volunteers; and their task is a growing one. They

commissioned our creative team to produce

their annual programme which must reflect the

grandeur of the event but also fit into a precise

budget. In addition, our experience with handling

advertisers and other sources gave their team the

advantage of free time for other things.

We decided on two distinct sub-brands for their

main divisions, giving each a unique identity that

would enable them to stand on their own within a

competitive market. We developed logos for each

that harnesses this individuality while remaining

consistent with other sub-brands of SWS. We also

prepared brand guidelines for each to enable

the correct application throughout the entire

customer journey.

This was the perfect opportunity for us to get

our teeth into a ‘from-scratch’ branding project.

Our task was to conduct more in-depth research

into the target market and perceptions of the

product, then build a brand that engaged with

this audience. We found that the younger

demographic were showing signs of interest and

would be a valuable target to invest in. We then

built a visual experience that could stand up not

only in retail but also at own-label level.

Our client came to us with a new venture that needed a strong, charac-terful brand presence to compete in the food and drink retail sector.

When writing our brief for the new brand, we realised there were so many different facets of the Westcountry that we wanted to reflect. And yes, we were pretty worried that Newton’s design team wouldn’t ‘get’ what we were trying to say as we hadn’t worked together before. But...WOW! There was quite a collective intake of breath when we were presented with the concepts. After much heated debate, we chose our favourite and Newton’s team helped us to develop and refine it further. We love the way they cottoned on to our rather rambled brief, helped us to collect our thoughts and then used their experience and creativity to turn the ideas into something tangible. We’ve now taken this to trade shows and it’s gone down a storm. This has translated into revenue too - we’ve had an uplift of 25% since launching the Swyg brand!

Our main task with this website project was

to take the existing identity and begin the

transformation to their key target markets in

commercial and education interior fit-out. We had

to achieve this without alienating their existing

customer base in the original business – paper

and envelope supplies. This required a very

distinct look and feel to the site to emphasise their

creativity and experience in the fit-out industry.

Westcountry Group had a long-estab-lished brand presence in the South West but felt that their diversification had out-paced their original identity.
