Worlds of Possibility 2017On May 11, art supporters, creative industry leaders, and artists gathered at Clifton’s Republic in Downtown LA to provide worlds of possibility for young artists in Southern California.

The evening featured Joe Rohde, creative executive overseeing Pandora - The World of Avatar, Dylan Cole, Ben Procter, production designers for the Avatar film sequels and Robin Stapley, an award winning designer from the global touring exhibition AVATAR: Discover Pandora, in a conversation that explored how Pandora has come to life in a diverse array of shows, environments, and film, led by Kai Ryssdal, the Host and Senior Editor of NPR's Marketplace. Guests enjoyed Clifton’s Tree Tops and Gothic Bar, including sneak previews, stunning displays, and the opportunity to purchase art created by alumni artists.

Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Clifton’s Republic and to our event sponsors: The Walt Disney Co., Michelle Lund, Comcast NBC Universal DreamWorks, The Sharon D. Lund Foundation, Adirondack, AECOM, Digiscura, Factory 360, Garner Holt Productions, GES, Amy Glad, Robin & Steve Kalota, Kathy Mangum, The Newquist Family, Nolan Heimann LLP, Tania Norris, Sara & Ed Nowak, Larson O'Brien LLP, Partners Federal Credit Union, The Price Families, Leah & Marty Sklar, Thinkwell, and Union Bank. Donate an Art Bin today and make a lasting impact. Visit rymanarts.org/donate to make your gift.

We asked Ryman Arts Alumni to post a photo of their Ryman Arts Art Bin on Instagram to share their inspiring stories of how Ryman Arts has impacted their lives. Here are a few of their stories.

tekunooman @rymanarts (living masters program) will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for giving me the push and motivation to stay creative in a career of art, design, architecture and photography. Here is my blue #rymanartbin given to me years ago class of 1990. Twenty six years later the bin is still full of original media and new ones, let the sketching continue.

heyharvey The @rymanarts program (class of ‘97 ) helped to instill in my young mind that a creative career path was possible. They helped build my confidence in what I create and opened the door for me to complete a degree in design. Although I don’t use my original standard issue #rymanartbin much these days, it’s still around to remind me of how it all started. I’m proud to know that Ryman Arts is still going strong and helping to cultivate future artists, creatives and designers.#keepitup ))))

nynjamegan This is my #rymanartbin. I started these amazing classes in high school during a very difficult time of my life. They helped me focus on what was important to me, my passion for art. Without Ryman I wouldn’t be attending art college or able to pursue my dream career. It now holds a variety of supplies, ready for any drawing trips! @rymanarts

Preserving a Legacy

Diane Brigham, Executive Director

In addition to educating artistic youth, we are also the stewards of the Herbert D. Ryman fine art collection and archives. Thanks to the support

of the Hyperion Historical Alliance, we are now inventorying Herb’s personal files under the direction of historians and archivists Paul Sigman-Lowery and Libby Spatz, who are providing their expertise pro bono. Special thanks go to these dedicated professionals who come weekly after hours to organize the treasures they are discovering within the old manila file folders that were stored for years in bankers boxes, carefully re-housing the fragile materials into archival boxes. Our goal is to digitize and safely preserve the writings, scrapbooks, photo albums and other materials from this important mid-century American artist and Disney Legend so that his work can be more accessible to researchers for

potential publications and exhibitions. It is remarkable to see Herb’s thoughtful handwritten comments in the margins of newspaper clippings, and diaries from his world travels that give context to the art in our collection. It brings us closer to understanding his creative process and serves as a tangible link between the young artists we serve today and the legacy of the artist who inspired the formation of our organization twenty-seven years ago.
