The Who

• Showhomes: Nashville based real estate company

• Essentially a service that works to help homeowners sell homes

• But they do it in a nontraditional way…

The How

• “Hires” people to live in high end homes

• Before, the sellers would hire a home manager to keep an eye on the sale property

• But why not just have ordinary people do it?

Responsibilities

• The new “homeowners” are responsible for home maintenance

• Log and report any issues

• Keep the home appealing looking to buyers (i.e. well stocked pantries and closets)

However, it’s worth noting…

• Buyers can show up any minute of the day

• this means the home must be kept in tip top shape

• Once the home sells, the manager has only about a month to move out

Who (Can’t) Be Hired

• Pretty inclusive, but some restrictions

• Managers can’t have many pets

• Cannot be smokers

• Cannot display religious tokens, family photos, political propaganda, sports memorabilia, etc.

• Program has 40 percent acceptance rate

• All applicants are subject to extensive background checks

• That includes legal and rental history

• Most home managers are white collar professionals who are temporarily based in a city.
