Maritime Sector Skills and Jobs Profile
Maritime Skills Development: The Context
South Africa has 40% unemployment;
Unemployment in the country is high, with a sizeable percentage of the workforce unemployed;
However, the maritime industry is in dire need of skills in shipping and logistics, marine tourism, offshore, naval security and fishing.
e.g. In Shipping alone there are shortages of about 250,000 i.e. 34,000 officers and 224,000 ratings;
