The following tutorial will demonstrate how to use the rubric wizard to create a multimedia/digital narrative rubric for your project. Accounts are free, and they allow you to save your project rubrics for future use and to share them with other Rubistar users. Once registered, click Create Rubric at the top of the screen to begin. Next, choose a category for your rubric. 2 appropriate categories are Digital Storytelling and Multimedia Project.

Creating a Project Assessment Rubric Using Rubistar

Rubistar is a powerful and user-friendly online tool that lets users create authentic assessment rubrics. It offers options for creating rubrics either from scratch for by utilizing a rubric creation “wizard” that takes users step by step through the process, allowing rubrics to be created in a much shorter time. The following tutorial will demonstrate how to use the rubric wizard to create a multimedia/digital narrative rubric for your project.

To begin, go to http://rubistar.4teachers.org/ and register for an account. Accounts are free, and they allow you to save your project rubrics for future use and to share them with other Rubistar users. Once registered, click Create Rubric at the top of the screen to begin.

Next, choose a category for your rubric. 2 appropriate categories are Digital Storytelling and Multimedia Project.

Give your rubric a title in the space provided.

Next, decide whether your rubric will be temporary (saved 1 week) or permanently saved to your account.

For each row you need, select a category from the drop-down menu to the left. You may also enter your own category title by typing the desired text in the box below the drop-down list.

Rubistar will automatically fill in the performance descriptions at each level on the row beside the selected category. These may be edited as needed. If you typed in your own category title, you will need to type in the descriptions manually.

To preview your rubric, click Submit at the bottom of the screen.

If you need to continue editing your rubric, click Modify This Rubric at the top of the preview screen.

When finished, you have 2 options. Print or Download will allow you to save your rubric to your computer and/or print it. Make Available Online will save your rubric permanently to your account. It is important to note that only by selecting Make Available Online will your rubric be available for viewing/editing in Rubistar.
