Creating the Narratives Web Pages: Second Site

Automatically transforms your genealogydata into web pages quickly and easilywithout knowing any HTML.

Steps - Step 2 of 6: Make a “Site Definition File”

4. Give your site a name

5. Identify yourself –Compiler Name

You only need tocreate the SiteDefinition once – it canbe easily modified

PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.

PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. Much of itssyntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple ofunique PHP-specific features thrown in. The goal of thelanguage is to allow web developers to write dynamicallygenerated pages quickly.

It normally requires the following to be present on your website:

1. PHP (a scripting language, 4.0 or higher preferred)2. MySQL (a database, 4.0.1 or higher preferred, but will also work

on earlier versions back to 3.23.0)3. You may also need an FTP program


PHP Websites: What Does That Mean to a FamilyHistorian?

It is a powerful way to manage and display your genealogy data onthe internet, all without generating a single page of HTML. Instead,your information is stored in MySQL database tables anddynamically displayed in attractive fashion with PHP.
