Chamber CEO…

“Change is Difficult?”

The mention of the word “change”

can cause uneasiness, in people. We find

ourselves resisting change because of the risk,

or fear associated with it. Change is hard, but

can be good. Looking at the positive side of

change:; we all need change to grow and to adapt in ways we

wouldn’t . Change can reveal our strengths, values and beliefs, it

also teach us to be flexible.

I have been in my current position for three months now.

I won’t lie, it has been challenging , meeting new people, getting

involved, working on restructuring things…. Making “changes”.

I can reassure you, my beliefs and leadership is about Tracy First.

I realize there are concerns, but lets put those to bed. The Cham-

ber exist to promote their members by advocating , networking ,

events and partnering in economic development. Members are the

chambers priority! To help bring business and our community

together, the Chamber will be introducing a few new events, first

a two day signature event that showcases Tracy and our commu-

nity through diversity and strength of partnering together, this

event is “Tracy's One World Festival”. A few other events, The

4th of July, the annual golf tournament, Music on the Green

(Tracy Golf & Country Club), LobsterFest. Members will start

seeing me more, I will be out introducing myself and stopping in.

I have been doing speaking engagements at different service or-

ganizations trying to meet people. . I am passionate about what I

do and hope to build on what is already existing. The chamber

will continue to introduce new opportunities for advertising,

events, fundraising and edu-

cational programs. My door

is always open, and I am al-

ways looking for suggestions,

please stop by so I can meet

you..

BUSINESS QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

“Leadership belongs to those who take it.”

– Sheryl Sandberg

“Tracy Foundation Golf Tournament...Why?”

Tracy leadership Applications are available at the Tra-cy Chamber of Commerce.

It has been brought to our attention through Social media, print

media and the word of mouth that people are disappointed we will

not be having the Tracy Foundation golf tournament at the Tracy

Golf and Country Club this year. My understanding, the decision

was made to hold it at a different venue after asking the golfers

for the last couple of years, where they would like to play golf.

The decision was made after listening to the golfers, sponsors and

people that played in the previous fundraiser. I did not make this

decision, I understand perception is everything. The tournament

was held at Diablo Grande in previous years and also at the Tracy

Golf and Country Club. This fundraiser is not for the Chamber of

Commerce, but is put on by the Foundation to raise funds for Tra-

cy nonprofit programs such as Hire Me First, the Scholarship pro-

gram for the Hispanic Business Group and this year the Commu-

nity Partnership for Families of SJC. We hope people come out

and play, this is to raise money for the Chamber Foundation non-

profit 501c3 for Tracy nonprofit programs.

In case you didn’t know, the Tracy Chamber of Commerce is a

separate organization than the Tracy Chamber Foundation. The

Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization to advocate

and promote their members to help build a stronger community.

The Foundation is not a member organization; it is a charitable

organization to fundraise and to give back to educational, scholar-

ships and community nonprofit programs. It has been said the

Chamber should work with local members in Tracy first, I can’t

agree more, but it is also the obligation of our bylaws to promote

all members in or out of Tracy. The comments about me and the

Tracy Chamber are farther from the truth, I can’t express how

much I do care about the Tracy community and how devoted the

Chamber is. This is my career and of course I want it to be suc-

cessful and surrounding cities to recognize the success of the Tra-

cy Chamber. Why would I make any decision that wouldn’t be in

the best interest of the Tracy businesses that would be like telling

your boss off?

To end this, I want people to know, three of the board of directors

including myself met with the Tracy Golf and Country Club to

come up with a solution to raise the revenue they felt they were

losing by not having the golf tournament. This year on August

24th we will be holding a concert on the Green to help raise money

for Chamber Foundation 501c3 and the Tracy Golf and Country

Club. Next year’s Golf tournament, we can rotate back to the

Tracy Golf and Country Club.
