Das Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad ist nicht nur das einzige Sandplatztennisturnier der Schweiz, es findet auch in einer einzigartigen Umgebung statt: Inmitten eines heimeligen Chaletdorfes, umgeben von markanten Bergen und grünen Matten, kämpft die Tenniselite seit bald 100 Jahren um den Turniersieg.

In Gstaad konnten sich bereits Stefan Edberg, Hie Nastase oder Roger Federer in die Siegerliste eintragen. Letzterer erhielt hier eine seiner ersten Wildcards, führte später die Weltrangliste an und fand den Weg im vergangenen Sommer - nach neun Jahren Abwesenheit - wieder ins Berner Oberland. Getreu dem Turniermotto, „today's Champions meet stars of tomorrow", wird vielleicht auch heuer, vom 19. bis am 27. Juli, eine zukünftige Nummer 1 in Gstaad auftrumpfen. Denn schon fast traditionsgemäss zeigen [noch) unbekannte Namen im Bergdorf Tennis auf höchstem Niveau und werden gegen Top-Spieler um jeden Punkt kämpfen.

Ein unumstrittener Anwärter auf den nächsten Turniersieg ist Lokalmatador Stanislas Wawrinka, der sich in der letzten Saison auf Platz 8 der Weltrangliste

vorgekämpft hat und nach der Finalteilnahme 2005 das Turnier im Berner Oberland gewinnen will. Konkurrenz erhält er dabei unter anderem von Vorjahressieger und Gstaadfan Michail Juschni. Parmi les stars attendues, il y aura bien sur Stanislas Wawrinka, qui a réalisé une saison 2013 extraordinaire en se hissant à la 8ème place du classement mondial. Stan aura à cœur de remporter un premier succès sur sol hélvétique. Parmi les autres prétendants à la victoire finale, il y aura également le tenant du titre, le russe Mikhail Youzhny.
