Crayon 's controls can be divided into three different regions:

Let's have a closer look:

1. Master Display

Values displayed here

The master section is not actually a control; rather, it provides usefulcontext-sensitive information. As you adjust each control, a small messagewill be displayed in the value box, relating to the value that is beingmodified.

For example, as you adjust the cutoff, you will get a frequency displayed inthe value box, in Hertz.

2. Band Controls

LP: Low PassBP: Band PassHP: High PassN: NotchP: Peak

LP BP HP N P

The band controls allow you to add a type of filter to the output of thesignal. You can engage up to five filter types at once (one of each type).

– Low Pass attenuates high frequencies, giving your sound a “dull” feel.

– Band Pass attenuates both above and below the cutoff frequency, for a“thin” or “nasal” sound

– High Pass removes low frequency signals

– Notch removes just a small band of frequencies from the signal

– Peak boosts a small band of frequencies in your audio

Cutoff

Resonance

Drive

– Cutoff controls the corner frequency of the filter. All filter types use thecutoff value as their reference frequency, and if multiple filter types areselected, they will all share the same cutoff.

– Resonance controls the amount of peak given to the cutoff frequency. On band and notch filters, this controls the width of the peak instead. When resonance reaches 100%, the filter will start to self-oscillate in asine wave pattern. If you do not wish for this effect, simply back thecontrol off a little.

– Drive determines the amount of saturation that is applied to the inputsignal. High levels will produce lots of overdrive. At its most extremesetting, a sine wave will be mapped to a square wave!

MIDI Control Information

Crayon responds to MIDI continuous controllers (CC). They are assignedas follows:

Cutoff 50Resonance 51Drive 52LP on/off 53BP on/off 54HP on/off 55NOTCH on/off 56PEAK on/off 57
