The Expo will be in the hall all day displayingthe wonderful programs we have running atCrawford. We will also be providing a free BBQlunch for parents.

The Crawford Public School Expo on Thursday5.8.10 is the centrepiece of our Education Weekactivities. Please take the opportunity to visityour child’s classroom during the morningsession (9.30am - 11.00am).
My thanks to the staff who have organisedpresentations or workshops as part of our Expo.We are very proud of the work we do at Crawfordand this is an opportunity for parents to gaingreater awareness of programs that are beingconducted at the school.
Also my sincere thanks for the positive feedbackfrom parents following our emergency lock-downat the end of last term. Your understanding,support, co-operation and assistance was criticalin ensuring the safety of all members of ourschool community.

Welcome back to Term 3 and a special welcometo all our new families to Crawford. We have anexciting term ahead with lots of great activitiesand learning. I especially look forward to nextweek during Education Week.
On Thursday 5 August the CRAWFORD EXPOis on. This day will highlight all the wonderfulprograms that are happening at Crawford forparents and the community to see. Students fromDoonside Technology High School will becoming down as we work in partnership with oneof our schools from our Colebee LearningCommunity (CLC).
STAGE 3 REPORT
Welcome back to Term 3. We have a busy termahead of us that will see students in Year 6participating in their transition to high schoolprogram on Wednesdays from 1:00pm-2:30pm.
All of the students in Year 6 have just completedtheir Peer Support Leader Training and our PeerSupport Program will commence on Friday 30July (this week). This will see the whole schoolparticipate in a program which focuses onResilience and how to get along well with others.
Stage 3 camp is planned for Term 4. The cost ofthe camp will be $190.00 and a permission notewill be sent home soon. Only safe, respectful,learners will be able to attend camp and otherplanned end of year activities.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALESCOMPETITIONS
Five Crawford students competed in theUniversity of New South Wales InternationalCompetition and Assessment for computers.
Two students received participation certificates,one student achieved a credit and two studentsattained distinctions.
The organisers of the competition have recognisedthat “Students from Crawford Public Schoolachieved outstanding results when theyparticipated in ICAS this year”.
I would like to congratulate all five students fortheir wonderful effort, but in particular Anie (Year5) for her credit and Eric and Gajan (Year 4) fortheir distinctions.
YEAR 2 EXCURSION TO THE CITY
As part of the Literary program in Stage 1, anexcursion has been arranged for students to visitthe setting for their next book “Alexander’sOuting”. Students will visit the Royal BotanicGardens in Sydney and follow the path of the maincharacter. This will be an excellent opportunityfor students to enhance their understanding ofSydney landmarks and the techniques authors usewhen writing.
NAIDOC DAY AT DOONSIDE PUBLICSCHOOL
The opportunity presented itself for eight studentsto participate in the celebrations being held atDoonside Public School for NAIDOC week.Students participated in various activities(Aboriginal dance, designs, boomerang throwing,face painting, story telling, games and weretreated to traditional foods such as kangaroo andbarramundi). We thank Jasmin and Natalie Bellfor their organisation for this day.

PARENT WORKSHOP ON INTERNETSAFETY
NEW PROGRAMON TIME, IN LINE, BY 9
Crawford is starting a new program ‘On Time,In Line, by 9’. Students who are in themorning lines, before the second bell, receivea Critter each day. At the end of each week,students who have attended school each dayand have been on time, have their nameplaced in a draw. Students names will bedrawn in Week 5 with a representative fromeach class receiving a fantastic reward.Names will also be drawn in Week 10, withone major prize.

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS
Our school contributions are nowoverdue. They continue to be $15.00 a
student or $30.00 a familyper year.
Teachers are collecting money in theclassrooms or the contributions can be givendirectly to the office.

K-2 BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
Tuesday 3 August, K-2 and support classes willbe participating in the 2010 Book CharacterParade. We encourage students to come dressedas their favourite book character. (Buzz lightyear,a fairy, Mickey Mouse, Where’s Wally etc).
We welcome all parents/carers and grandparentsto attend our parade, which will be held in thehall at 9.30am until 10.30am. The students willparade around the hall and we will have 3 luckybook draws (one per grade). It is also a greatopportunity to browse our book fair in the library.

Just a reminder that Crawford Cubs startsWednesday 11 August at 9.30am in Ms Wilson’s/KW’s classroom. Please invite your friends/neighbours that have children attending schoolnext year. It is free to attend! We look forwardto seeing you there.
KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION
As we start a new term we would like to drawyour attention to the homework now being givenout. We have a sight word list that we wouldlike students to look at and know by sight. Thisterm we have now started a weekly spelling list.These words will be reinforced in our focus book“The Pig in the Pond” by Martin Waddell. Theywill assist students writing sentences and readingthe book. Please assist your child by ensuringthey revise their words every night.

KOORI TIME
Monday 26 July saw the start of Koori Time withour primary students. The students were involvedin activities to immerse Indigenous culture intoour school community. The program saw studentsinvolved in AFL, storytelling, painting and danceactivities. Both Indigenous students and non-Indigenous students were able to expressthemselves through The Arts and Sport. Theprimary students had a great time and are lookingforward to the next workshop in a fortnight’stime.
Infants students will begin their sessions nextMonday 2 August at 2.00pm. The AboriginalEducation Team will be taking snap shotsthroughout the term to display in the newsletter.Look out for your talented children.

SPECIAL SWIMMING SCHEME
Crawford Public School will be holding theSpecial Swimming Scheme in Term 4, Weeks3&4. This is an intensive learn to swim programwhich develops water confidence and providesstudents with basic skills in water safety andsurvival.
The scheme is run over a period of 10 days,commencing Monday 25.10.10 - Friday 5.11.10at Mt Druitt Pool.
Places are limited so students will be acceptedon a first in basis. The cost of the swimmingclasses will be $35.00 for the 10 days. StudentAssistance is not available for this scheme.Preference will be given to students in Years 2,3and 4.
Notes will be coming home with further detailscloser to the date.
