With the topography of our land ie. our school slants downwards, we are susceptible to water and mud collections. We are putting into place numerous safety and maintenance strategies but we still experience a little deluge. So, rather than cursing the mud, embrace the mud. Put on a pair of gum boots and explore the possibilities. Did you know that Mud makes you happy: New research has shown that exposure to friendly soil bacteria (Mycobacterium Vaccae) stimulates the immune system causing the brain to release serotonin, the endorphin used to regulate mood. Mud reduces your susceptibility to depression Given the link of the friendly bacteria in mud and its ability to make you happy, scientists say that regular exposure to mud will reduce a child’s vulnerability to depression. Mud reduces allergies and asthma symptoms There is increasing evidence that today’s society is “too clean”, and that this is a contributor to increased levels of childhood illnesses, including immune disorders and allergies.

Congratulations to our CSPS Vic Spell representatives Zara, Christian, Rebecca & Max. You demonstrated great determination in spelling accuracy and represented CSPS with pride.

Empowerment; Simple Science project. We measured, mixed and concocted items, including those that resembled Wizz Fizz, Crystals and Oobleck (corn flour slime). With a bit of extra time on our hands and limited ability to

consume, we decided to sell our wares to raise money for future Empowerment Projects and to support The Dolphin Institute to continue their scientific exploration into protecting our marine environment. We are proud to announce that our products were greatly enjoyed and we raised $150.00 Thanks to all who contributed to our chosen causes. Senior School Simple Science Scientists: Josh, Xaviar, Narisara, Grace, Mattea, Luke, Aaron, Jake, Ebony, Zara, Indie, Lara, Jordan, Jacob, David, Orlando, Tamika, Angel, Connor.

Congratulations to Layne Marshall and Lara Ellis Once again, our Year 5 students Layne Marshall and Lara Ellis, have excelled in the area of Aerobics and made us all proud! They recently competed in

the School Aerobics Nationals competition on the gold Coast and received Gold medals in the ‘Primary Pairs’ event. They have made the honour roll for the highest competition scores as pairs, placing them in the ‘Top 10 athletes 2017 School Aerobics’.

Furthermore, in July they travelled to Brisbane to compete in the FISAF National Championships. As members of the Cadet Fitness Team, Airbourne, they received gold, coming first place nationally. They have qualified for the Australian team! Wow! In October this year, Layne and Lara are planning to travel to The Netherlands to represent Australia in the FISAF World Championships. What an amazing feat at such a young age; to be competing for their country. We wish you the best of luck girls and will be watching closely and cheering you on. If you would like to support Layne and Lara and their families, in this self-funded costly venture, donations can be made by contacting their classroom teacher Ms Youl.

Nature Play Australia together with Australian Primary Principals Association would like to invite your school to participate in Outdoor Classroom Day.

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On Thursday, 7 September thousands of schools around the world will take lessons outside and prioritise playtime.

Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood.

¡Hola amigos! Foundation students have been doing lots of activities to learn and practice family vocabulary such as mama, papa, hermano (brother), hermana (sister), abuelo (grandfather), abuela (grandmother) and bebe (baby). Year 1-2 students sketched their ‘dream’ house and

constructed a few sentences in Spanish. They have also discovered how other children live around the world. Year 3-4 students are having lots of fun creating interactive notebooks and recording each other describing their houses in Spanish.

Cranbourne South Primary School have embarked on an exciting journey with the aim of becoming a Kids Matter School. In one of our newsletters earlier this year we sent home a flyer regarding this initiative. We would like to inform our school community that there is a Kids Matter a newsletter specifically for parents, carers and families. It is packed full of expert information, tips and strategies to help you support the mental health and wellbeing of your kids. We ask parents to use the following link to access this information. (you will need to subscribe) https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/families/enewsletter
