Marathon 2012
INTRODUCTION A lack of funding in the Athletics sector over the past 15 years has left a
gaping hole in terms of South African Athlete competing on the world Stage
SASCOC and Athletics South Africa select various individuals to support, which is really the tip of the ice burg and many athletes are simply cast aside who have shown promise, leaving them demorilised and dejected.
Professional Clubs in SA do not have a development aspect to speak of.
Through the establishment of Craig Fry Athletics development and professional services we aim to implement and support professional athletes in conjunction with developing south African Athletes.
Thus the establishment of a facility in KwaZulu Natal order for identified athletes to be given the opportunity to be trained in all aspects of athletics
Claude Moshiywa Wins Comrades 2013
MISSIONTo uphold the highest levels of integrity and professionalism in all endeavors
To mould and train athletes that have not been afforded the opportunity to realise their talent and to assist these athletes not only in athletic ability but advise and counsel these athletes in order for them to conduct themselves at the highest levels of professionalism
To build the athletes to be Role Models and Heroes to the Youth who they can aspire to emulate, make the athletes household names.
Children love HerosTalk at a Junior school
VISIONDuring the 1980s and 1990s South African Athletes were of the highest
calibre of athletes in Africa and the World This has since dwindled into SA Athletes being “mediocre”
Through theTraining Facility the long term goal is for SA Athletes to gain their rightful place as the best athletes in Southern Africa, Africa and the World
Thus placing the Academy in all aspects at the forefront of Athletics Development

THIRD PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS In order to offer a truly professional sporting facility the need for specialists in various fields is paramount
The first phase will see certain areas fulfilled by established professionals on a contractual basis.
As the Facility becomes established we will identify and approach recently graduated students in their specific fields – which will allow for a good practical experience for these graduated individuals, with the aim of employing various individuals on a permanent basis and as specialists.
Thus creating employment – we will then extend the facility to students requiring practical experience whilst studying which will aid and assist them for future employment opportunities as they will not only have the Theory but will have the Practical knowledge as well.

IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS WITH ATHLETES POOR PERFORMANCERS IN SOUTH AFRICA
In order to keep the athletes as South African and as a Professional outfit athletes will be required financial remuneration
Thus allowing the athletes the best opportunity to focus on training and resting between sessions and races
The main problem with Athletes today is that they attend too many races out of necessity for survival , and hence there is no quality training and or not enough rest between races which is paramount to be successful
Professional structures in SA only contract athletes for 1 year at a time, which creates uncertainty for an athlete and therefore is always racing under extreme mental pressure
We aim to contract the athletes for a minimum of 4 years – allowing time for growth and development as well as time for the athletes to produce results
Professional clubs in SA don’t contribute towards training and nurturing
The lack of personal sponsors to assist with basic living conditions

ATHLETE EDUCATION The aim with the athletes is that they will be required to enroll in a tertiary
educational programme
Thus affording them the opportunity to gain valuable certificates of education which will stand then in good stead when they retire from professional running
This is extremely important as this will allow them to have a bright future once retiring from athletics
The Facility will discuss and or negotiate with a Tertiary Educational institute to offer contracted athletes bursaries or discounted preferential rates, as the Facility will be paying the athletes salaries we will know they will have funds available for furthering their studies.
It is important for the facility to not simply give the athletes this service at no cost to them, as this will encourage each person to study harder and gaining good results as they will be contributing financially towards their own education
Athletes are taught how to handle interviews and pres conferences
CONCLUSIONIn order to support and develop South African Athletes to become the best
in Southern Africa and the world, we believe we have the experience , knowledge, commitment and passion for this project to succeed
Through the Facility the aim is not only to create and develop athletics champions but to also create sustainable employment for athletes as well as providing a platform for employment of administrators as well as to offer an opportunity for students to gain valuable working experience whilst they complete their studies
We aim to produce Comrades Marathon winners as well as Athletes who are able to attain a sub 2H08 Marathon time on the world Stage which will allow our athletes to compete with the Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes who currently dominate World Marathon and Middle distance running
