Eye Protection

Cut from your right to your left.

,itdt_WARNING: Always wear eyeprotection. Never lean over the trimmerhead. Rocks or debris can ricochet or

be thrown into eyes and face andcause blindness or other serious injury.

When operating unit, stand as shownand check for the following:• Wear eye protection and heavy

clothing.• Hold trigger handle with right hand

and assist handle with left hand.• Keep unit below waist level.• Cut only from your right to your left to

ensure debris is thrown away fromyou. Without bending over, keep linenear and parallel to the ground andnot crowded into material being cut.

Do not run the engine at a higherspeed than necessary. The cuttingline will cut efficiently when the engineis run at less than full throttle. At lowerspeeds, there is less engine noise andvibration. The cutting line will lastlonger and will be less likely to "weld"onto the spool.Always release the throttle trigger andallow the engine to return to idlespeed when not cutting. To stop engine:• Release the throttle trigger.• Move the ON/OFF switch to the OFF

position.TWIST AND EDGEThe Twist and Edge feature allows foreasy edging of sidewalks, patios, driveways, etc.1. Pull the tab toward the engine.2. Twist the tube to the edging posi-

tion; release tab.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCEThe cutting head advances line au-tomatically. Do not tap head on theground to advance line. This maybreak parts and cause cutting head tomalfunction.Upon unit start up, the line will advanceautomatically to the correct cutting pathlength.Always keep the shield in place whenthe tool is being operated=

,IO_,WARNING: Use only 0.080" (2mm) diameter round line. Othersizes and shapes of line will not ad-vance properly and will result in im-proper cutting head function or cancause serious injury. Do not use othermaterials such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break off during cuttingand become a dangerous missile thatcan cause serious injury.CUTTING METHODS

_,WARNING: Use minimum speedand do not crowd the line when cuttingaround hard objects (rock, gravel, fenceposts, etc.), which can damage the trim-mer head, become entangled in theline, or be thrown causing a serioushazard=

• The line will easily remove grassand weeds from around walls, fences, trees and flower beds, but italso can cut the tender bark of treesor shrubs and scar fences.

• For trimming or scalping, use lessthan full throttle to increase line lifeand decrease head wear, especially:• During light duty cutting.• Near objects around which the line

can wrap such as small posts, trees or fence wire.

• For mowing or sweeping, use fullthrottle for a good clean job.

TRIMMING - Hold the bottom of thetrimmer head about 3 in. (8 cm) abovethe ground and at an angle. Allow onlythe tip of the line to make contact. Donot force trimmer line into work area.

Trimming _ 1t

SCALPING - The scalping techniqueremoves unwanted vegetation. Holdthe bottom of the trimmer head about3 in. (8 cm) above the ground and atan angle. Allow the tip of the line tostrike the ground around trees, posts, monuments, etc. This technique in-creases line wear.

Scalping 3 in. (8 cm)Above Ground

JLMOWING - Your trimmer is ideal formowing in places conventional lawnmowers cannot reach. In the mowingposition, keep the line parallel to theground. Avoid pressing the head intothe ground as this can scalp theground and damage the tool.
