Welcome to Sri Lanka! As you drive into the coastal city of Colombo,

you are treated to a burst of activity across town squares and

bustling street markets, followed by quiet neighbourhoods with

colonial bungalows, posh boutiques and shady boulevards. Spend

the evening interacting with your journey expert.

In the morning, enjoy a quick tour of Colombo. And then drive down

to the South Coast's most popular city – Galle, approximately 2.5

hours away. Walk around town with an experienced architect, with

Dutch ancestry, offering unparalleled insights into the heritage of the

area. Later, witness the delicate craft of lacemaking in an encounter

with beeralu lace-makers.

Drive to the charming hill town of Kandapola, an approximately 6.5-

hour drive. Enjoy lunch at a resort and take the rest of the day to

relax.

Visit a tea factory to hear interesting anecdotes about the history of

this household drink, and learn about its delicate and varied growing

and brewing processes. Later, enjoy a leisurely walk or an adventure

trek to experience the varied landscapes, exotic flora and abundant

birdlife of the area.

Ride through picturesque countryside from Nanu Oya to Kandy in

the early morning train. Witness backstage preparations of the

colourful “Perahera” festival – one of the grandest Buddhist

celebrations in Sri Lanka.

(Note: For groups of over 10 people, we can arrange for a private

carriage with an astrologer, masseurs for soothing foot/ head

massages and tropical fresh fruits. For less than 10 people, seats are

arranged in the normal carriage, subject to availability at the time of

Start your morning by visiting the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dālada

Māligāwa), which is considered the foremost place of worship in the

Buddhist world. Pay a visit to a traditional Kandyan dancer to learn

about their way of life and the intricacies of their art, followed by a

visit to a drum-making village. In the evening, witness the grand

celebrations of Perahera.

Visit the Embekka Devalaya – dedicated to the worship of the Hindu

deity Mahasen. Known for its intricate wood carvings, the temple

offers some of the best examples of Sinhalese art. Take the evening

to rejuvenate.

Start your day early as we head out of Kandy towards the historic

site of Sigiriya. Visit a spice garden on route to learn about various

spices and their uses. Next, visit Dambulla – a vast isolated rock mass

500 feet high and a mile around the base.

Drive through thick jungles into the ancient streets of Polonnaruwa;

ride a bullock-cart to experience life in the village and visit a

traditional handloom village.

Drive down to Negombo, an approximately 4-hour drive. Spend the

rest of the day relaxing on the beach.

Lakshman Senerath Doolwela, fondly known as Lucky in the tourism fraternity, counts over 44 years of

experience in travels across Sri Lanka. Lucky hails from Doolwela a village named after his great, great

grandfather who was the personal physician to the last King of Sri Lanka and ruler of the Kandyan Kingdom.

An expert in Kandyan culinary skills, acquired from his beloved “athamma” (grandmother), Lucky can talk for

hours on how dishes are prepared and preserved. His knowledge and passion for history and wildlife are what

Bhaktapur. Visit the Durbar Square, a beautiful plaza in front of the

55-windowed royal palace; Golden Gate and National Art Gallery. In

the afternoon, drop by the home of a local Newari family to learn

some tips and tricks of Nepalese cooking and enjoy the meal after.

Later, take a tour of the Patan Durbar Square.

Drive to the Budhanilkantha Temple, which is dedicated to the Hindu

the edge of a hill, the trek to the monastery, which takes

excursion ends at the Buddha Point (or Kuensel Phodrang).

Drive to Punakha, via the stunning Dochula pass, situated at a height

of over 3000 meters. Visit the Punakha Dzong, also known as the

'Palace of Great Happiness'. Enjoy a short walk across farmhouses

and rice paddies that lead to Chimi Lhakhang, a 15th-century fertility

temple.

Embark on a beautiful hike to the regal Khamsum Yuelley Namgel

Chorten, approximately two hours round trip. Make an excursion to

Talo village to encounter the peaceful life of the region. Drop by the

Talo Sangnacholing Dzong for majestic views of the surrounding

villages and the Nalanda Buddhist Institute.

Drive to Paro, an approximately 4-hour drive and explore the Paro

valley. Home to many of Bhutan's oldest temples and monasteries,

Paro is a great area to discover on foot. Spend your afternoon taking

a tour of the city.

Hike up to the Taktsang Monastery or Tiger's Nest, an approximate

round trip of 5 hours by foot. The hike up to the monastery crosses

through dirt roads, with scattered views of the valley below, and

prayer flags above. In the evening, watch a traditional mask dance

and cultural show.

Fly back to Kathmandu. The rest of the day is yours to spend at your

Niwas where you spend time with the royal family as they share

anecdotes of the local culture and heritage, over drinks and

Drive down to Agra, an approximately 5-hour drive, and visit the

Agra Fort, one of the finest forts built by the Mughals in India.

Visit the much-awaited monument of love, Taj Mahal, the

mausoleum built by emperor Shah Jahan for his favourite wife,

Mumtaz Mahal. Afterwards, drive down to the capital city of

Delhi, where you spend the evening witnessing the festivities of

Dussehra. Giant effigies of Ravana are burnt at dusk, in colourful

carnivals where the community comes together to celebrate.

Start the day with a rickshaw ride through the walled city of Old

Delhi. Drive past the opulent Red Fort, leading to one of the

oldest and busiest markets of the country, Chandni Chowk. Visit

Asia's largest spice market, Khari Baoli and catch a glimpse of

the famed Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Visit Humayun's

tomb, a stunning example of Mughal architecture as well as the

iconic minaret of Qutub Minar.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board the flight to

Arrive at the first destination of your journey “The City of Joy” –

Kolkata. Spend the evening interacting with your tour expert,

Anamika Singh. Enjoy dinner and get briefed by Anamika about the

Spend the day exploring the city of Kolkata. Enjoy tea served in

traditional earthenware cups called khullars. The city tour would be

incomplete without a visit to Flurys – the legendary tearoom that

was founded in 1927. Enjoy tea and cookies at Flurys and spend your

last night in Kolkata.

Fly to Dibrugarh and in the afternoon visit the Mancotta Tea Factory

for a tea tasting session and walk. In the evening, enjoy a cultural

performance.

Start your day with a tea tour around a tea estate known for

producing high quality CTC teas. Enjoy a boat cruise on the

Bhramaputra river, followed by a picnic lunch with a view of the

Eastern Himalayas. Dinner will be at Heritage Chang Bungalow with

local tea planters.

Fly to Guwahati and spend your afternoon interacting with tea

brokers and auctioneers.

Fly to Bagdogra and then drive down to Darjeeling, approximately

3.5 hour-drive. This little hill town is known for one of the most

globally recognised teas.

While in Darjeeling, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, (also known as

the toy train ride), is a must-experience! Get onboard for unmatched

views of the hillside and then spend the afternoon taking a tour of the

city.

Spend the day on a tea tour at Glenburn Tea Estate, a heavenly little

plantation retreat. Visit the tea factory and savour tea served with a

selection of homemade cakes and biscuits along with Glenburn's

signature “Tea Leaf Pakoras” - as you enjoy the majestic

surroundings.

Drive to Bagdogra airport, an approximately 3.5 hour-drive, to fly

back to Kolkata. En route visit the Karseong Toy Train museum.

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport to leave India.

Step out for a two-part walking tour that explores the 'garden-to-

table' concept. Start with a foraging experience at Lodhi Garden,

where you learn about the edible produce of the area. And then

travel to a nearby restaurant - Perch, where the chefs will prepare a

family-style meal for you, using the freshly-harvested ingredients.

Later, explore New Delhi and visit Humayun's Tomb.

Arrive by train at Kathgodam, a little town at the base of the

Kumaon Himalayas and drive up to Binsar, about 4 hours away,

where we continue our journey deeper into the hills at the Binsar

Wildlife Sanctuary – a haven for bird watchers. Stop over to the meet

the Panchachuli Women Weavers of Kumaon, who knit premium

handloom products that the area is known for. And in the evening,

sit around a bonfire and exchange stories with the nocturnal calls of

the jungle surrounding you.

After a wholesome breakfast amidst nature, we retrace the ancient

pilgrim route between Binsar and the Jageshwar Valley, which

passes through verdant forests and picture-perfect villages, and

finishes at the Jageshwar Valley – home to one of the oldest temples

in the world, dating back to the 10th century. Stay at an eco-friendly

lodge, set amidst dense cedar and pine forests.

Start your morning with a Yoga session and spend the day exploring

the valley, dotted with natural pools and ancient caves. Visit the

Herbal Garden to get insights into indigenous varieties of rare herbs

and wild medicinal plants, followed by the fascinating Archaeology

Museum which houses some rare and ancient artefacts collected and

preserved over time.

On arrival at Bhimtal, check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy

an engrossing session with Peter Smetacek – the 'Butterfly Man of

India' – at his Butterfly museum and research centre, which houses a

captivating collection of unique butterflies and moths. Then head

out for a walk in the surrounding area, led by Peter himself, spotting

and learning more about the fascinating world of butterflies.

Head out to a farm at the nearby village and get insights into rural

life as you help a family with their daily chores. Leave your “Green

Mark” in the Himalayas by planting a tree in the village. For lunch,

feast on simple yet delicious Kumaoni dishes, made with organic

farm produce. Post lunch, you can relax around the farm, spotting

rare Himalayan birds or learn more about the “Himalayan Hamlets”

project, which is working on bringing about socio-economic

upliftment for the locals through Responsible Village Tourism

Kush Sethi conducts curated walking tours around urban ecology. After majoring in Green Chemistry

from University of York, Kush began working in Delhi on urban ecology-based projects. He has worked

as a researcher with 'Toxics Link' to map and study the Delhi Ridge for advocacy and outreach. And was

part of KHOJ's 'Negotiating Food Project' where he facilitated the residents of Hauz Rani, a small

neighbourhood of Delhi, to grow produce in their homes and shared spaces. Currently, he is practicing

independently as an urban garden designer focusing on DIY, lazy and wild landscapes. He has

designed special walks in the wilderness, where he leads groups of people to raise awareness about

early morning visit to an “akhara” to watch traditional wrestling

– an ancient sport which still finds its way in the narrow lanes of

Varanasi. Later, fly to the next destination – Agra and

In the morning, visit the iconic monument of love Taj Mahal,

built by Shah Jahan for his favourite wife Mumtaz; followed by

In the morning, drive down to Delhi, approximately 4.5 hours

Welcome to Delhi, the capital of India. Spend the evening

interacting with your tour expert, Vishal Bhaskar. Get insights from

him about the tour and enjoy your dinner.

Kickstart your journey with an exploration of this historic city. Take a

rickshaw ride through the walled city of Old Delhi, followed by a tour

of New Delhi. Later, drive to Vrindavan, the little temple town where

the Hindu Lord Krishna is said to have spent his young years. The

place is a significant spot for devotees of the god, including the

global community of the Hare Krishna movement.

Start your exploration of Krishna's quaint hamlet at Shri Banke Bihari

Mandir and then visit one of the most popular temples in India,

ISKCON. Next, travel to Nandgaon – part of Braj Bhoomi, the region

where Lord Krishna is believed to have spent his childhood – and

experience the playful way in which Holi is celebrated here. End the

day with “aarti” ceremony on the ghats of the Yamuna river at dusk.

Drive to Agra, an approximately 2-hour drive. On route, visit the

Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex in Mathura, where Krishna was

born inside a prison cell, according to Hindu mythology. In the

afternoon, visit the iconic Taj Mahal and the grand Agra Fort.

1772 as a luxurious summer resort for the rulers of Bharatpur – to

witness Holi celebrations. Witness the sprawling Mughal-inspired

gardens and over 900 fountains of the palace come alive with the

Drive to Jaipur, an approximately 3.5-hour drive. Take a tour of the

city and spend your evening experiencing the “Holika Dahan” ritual

at a local home with a noble family. Witness grand celebrations of

this evening as people come together to play music and tell stories

around the bonfire with refreshments.

Soak in the colours of Holi as you are welcomed at the residence of a

local family, in traditional Rajput style to celebrate the festival. Wear

traditional attire - white kurta-salwar for women and white kurta-

Drive to Agra, an approximately 4-hour drive. Visit the monument of

love, Taj Mahal, followed by a marble factory, where you get to see

the fine “marble inlay” work that Agra is known for.

Visit Agra Fort, one of the finest forts built by the Mughals in India.

Later, drive to Jaipur, an approximately 6-hour drive.

In the morning, visit two important centres of local craftsmanship,

Sanganer and Bagru. Learn about the renowned arts of block

printing and tie-die. In the afternoon, visit the City Palace Museum

and Jantar Mantar, a bizarre garden of astronomical structures.

Start your day with a half-day excursion of the inspiring Amer Fort, a

Rema Kumar, textile designer based in New Delhi, has been working with weavers and master craftsmen of India for 20 years. She works with weavers to produce saris, dupattas, stoles, shawls and yardage. Thereafter, she adds on the finer details to these fabrics by way of various printing and cutworks. Rema runs her casual and semi-formal Indian wear label “Outlooks” and in 2001, launched her store 'Alter Ego', now called 'Add Ons'. Her collections have been sold under the label “Rema Kumar” through her flagship store in Delhi. She was also invited to represent India at the Asian Fair at Tokyo and Yokohama.
