Over the past year there has been a resurgence of interest in craft
in the area with huge improvements in the craft infrastructure and
standards of professional practice. Ambitious plans have been laid
down with the help of various local organisations including Derry
City Council and Inner City Trust to promote the profile and growth
of the industry over the next few years.
Makers themselves have joined forces to engender a spirit of
co-operation and self help. The individual craftspeople, artists
and retailers featured in this directory are an inspiration to others.
Please support them by going to see, and hopefully purchase, their
wonderful products and unique artworks.

After more than forty years working with clay, Tom has never enjoyed the process
more than he does currently. He has been fortunate in recent years to have completed
a number of large-scale wall based works in public spaces around Derry and Belfast.
These projects throw up demands to learn new skills and that is what produces the
creative excitement. If you would like to visit the studio you should ring between
11am and 5pm. Alternatively visit the Craft Village Collective, Craft Village, Derry
where Tom’s work is represented.

Natasha Duddy is one of Ireland’s well established glass designers. After completing her
Degree at the National College of Art and Design, Natasha returned home to the city of
Derry and formed “Natasha Duddy Glass Designs”. This saw the beginning of a range of
handcrafted, quality, contemporary glass giftware, jewellery, corporate gifts and interior
or exterior sculptures. Natasha’s fused glass captures the dynamic of the material in its
molten state, freezing it in time. She uses form, texture and colour to create striking and
wonderful glass pieces. All designs are individually produced and are one-off pieces.
A range of her work is available at the Craft Village Collective retail outlet.

Richard paints Icons and teaches icon painting in the Greek/Byzantine manner. He has
studied Icon paining with Guillem Ramos Poqui, Solrunn Ness and with Eva Vlavianos,
the distinguished Greek iconographer and restorer for the past 15 years. Icon painting
is a slow meditative and disciplined procedure and generally an icon will need to be
commissioned at least one year in advance. Public may visit his studio but may prefer
to make an appointment.
