The civilization of ancient Greece flowered more than 2500 years ago.

The ideas of the ancient Greeks continue to influence the way we live today, for example, democracy and Olympic Games.

The ancient Greeks attempted to explain the world through the laws of nature and made important discoveries in science and architecture.

DEMOCRACY

It came from Athens.

People there could decide what they wanted.

Citizens were allowed to vote. It was formed from the Greek words 'demos' (people)and

'kratein'(rule).

MODERN DEMOCRACY

Different from the Greek form of Democracy

The 2 basic principles of modern democracy: Equality and Freedom.

All adults have right to vote.

The universal value in modern society; Hong Kong sets it as the principle of political progress.

He discovered the Pythagoras Theorem.

One of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine.

He believed that diseases were caused naturally, not because of gods.

He separated the discipline of medicine from religion.

A ship would sink to a certain level until its weight is equal to the buoyant force.

Archimedes

The first ancient Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 BC.

They were dedicated to the Olympian gods in Olympia.

They continued for nearly 12 centuries and then it stopped.

The first Modern Olympic Games took place in 1896 in Athens.
