A WARM GREETING to all Honda owners and With DREAMS readers. If recent months have taught us anything, it’s that the future can appear uncertain sometimes. This is why it’s comforting to know that there are some things you can always count on – like Honda’s continued commitment to excellence.
Fuelled by the dream to be a company that society wants to exist, Honda is a firm believer of The Three Joys. The Joy of Buying, which ensures every Honda vehicle produced is the very best it can be. Next, to instil a Joy of Selling in all Honda dealers so as to be able to achieve the highest standards of customer service. Lastly, to nurture the Joy of Creating products of the highest quality that exceed consumer expectations.
Honda is also an organisation that believes in constantly challenging itself to improve and to look for better ways to serve you. With the recent opening of two additional dealerships, Jimisar Motors in Sibu, Sarawak and JM Motor Venture in Bukit Mertajam, Penang – bringing the total number of Honda dealerships in Malaysia to 58 – Honda is closer to you wherever your home may be.
It is this mindset that separates Honda from the rest and has made the brand into what it is today. The satisfaction you get from owning a Honda is truly a feeling you won’t find anywhere else. As the newly appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Honda Malaysia, I would like to thank you for your continued support and look forward to sharing the joy of Honda with you.

Introducing the CR-Z
The CR-Z or Compact Renaissance Zero marks a rejuvenation in the design of the Honda
compact car. A perfect blend of time-tested tradition and new technology, the CR-Z
features popular design elements of the CR-X from the 80s and 90s – renowned for offering
the ‘joy of driving’ – and advanced hybrid technology pioneered for the Insight (refer to
With Dreams vol. 10, Our Newest Dream for details). Based on a recent statement by the
President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd dated December 2008, the CR-Z will be available
for purchase by the end of 2010.
The over-sized grill with air-vents on eachside offers a strong, high-performance look.LED headlights patterned after luminous bodies, coupled with jaunty fin-shaped sub-lights,leave an unmistakable impression.
The spacious cockpit features a cutting-edge meter unit beautifully encased in a glass art piece.
Large, 19” wheels portray a strong sporting stance and hint at the dynamic sporting chassis underneath.
Aerodynamic door mirrors boast a high degree of style and visibility.

Check out the recent interview with designers Mr. Morikawa Tetsuji and Mr. Shimuzu Yosuke to learn what inspired the exterior and interior look of the CR-Z.
Take A Closer Look
Qn: What inspired the exterior design of the CR-Z?MT: The futuristic and dynamic design of the CR-Z empowers the driver with its innate performace capabilities and superior technology, despite the vehicle’s compact size. Its curved, fluid design also portrays motion beautifully.
Qn: Why do you believe in putting effort into designing the exterior, even if it’s only a shell?MT: As the CR-Z needed an exterior appearance that would evoke desire regardless of its compact size, coming up with the perfect design was indeed a challenge. I would be flattered if any user mentioned that the CR-Z embodies everything Honda.
Qn: What was the reason for making the CR-Z a hybrid?MT: By positioning the CR-Z as a lightweight hybrid sports car, we (Honda) can provide a fun driving experience and still minimise damage inflicted on the environment. This is a key appeal of the CR-Z as more environmentally conscious consumers are demanding this from their cars.
Qn: What were your thoughts upon completing the design of the CR-Z?MT: I was proud that my design helped boost the image of hybrids from being just environmentally friendly alternatives, to vehicles that can be fun and stylish to drive.
Qn: How about its interior?SY: As the CR-Z is designed to be a fun car for all, the interior was made to resemble a spacious living room. By using plenty of windows and allowing light to enter the cabin, we were able to create a roomy look for the inside of the CR-Z, even though it’s a coupe. In doing so, I hope I had helped enhance the image of Honda Hybrids as delightful vehicles to drive.
Tube-shaped rear combination lamps provide better rearward visibility and create a powerful presence.
The high tail with split-level glass, shallow rake of the roof and kamm-style tail evoke the spirit of the CR-X, and gels well with the design of other Honda eco-friendly cars such as the Insight and FCX Clarity.

When a ManLoves HondaIt’s not uncommon to see adolescent boys drool over cars but to see a grown man
pour over his car is definitely a sign of true passion for his automobile. For Johor Bahru
resident Mat Sahruddin bin Tamat, aged 35, becoming a husband and father changes
nothing about the love he has for his cars – most of which have been from Honda.
08
MAT SAHRUDDIN'S LOVE for Honda began way back with his first, a fifth-generation Honda Civic Ferio (Ferio is the designation for a four-door Civic saloon imported from Japan). During its time, the fifth-generation Civic was viewed by many as so much more than just a good compact family car. Its name grew synonymous with affordable high performance and those that owned one were regarded as genuine car enthusiasts. It was this car that started Sahruddin's fondness for the Honda brand. Coupled with its attractive price, the Civic also had the looks and the kind of sporty performance that Sahruddin was looking for. So much so that it got him racing in some club events. Not long after, Sahruddin’s ownership of a Civic soon spawned purchases of other Honda cars. Star-struck by Honda, he hardly looked at other brands (he did have brief ownership of another Japanese marque but sold the car for a CR-V). Today, the managing director of a reputable construction firm and proud father of two daughters, Sahruddin is also the owner of two Honda vehicles – an Odyssey and CR-V, both third generations.
Mat Sahruddin always beams with joy when he
talks about his love – Honda cars.
Although both Mr. Sahruddin and his wife Ruzaimah have very busy schedules, they make it a point
to spend most weekends together.
His cars occupied much of the conversation when With DREAMS met with Sahruddin in Johor Bahru recently. He speaks of them as if they were his children, his eyes swelling with a sense of pride. Even during the photo shoot at Danga Bay after the interview, Sahruddin continued to sing Honda’s praises, pointing out the Odyssey’s unique design, which he thinks is a well-known trait and his reason for purchasing one. “I like the Odyssey because like every Honda, it carries its own distinct style. You’ll find a unique feature in every model that sets itself apart from the others,” said the Honda-smitten Sahruddin, who loves to read car magazines in his spare time.
If you had the chance to see Sahruddin’s Odyssey, you’ll be amazed at how well kept and clean it is. It looks like it just stepped out of the showroom. At the time of the shoot, Sahruddin had some Modulo modifications done on his Odyssey. His reason for doing this is plain and simple, “It looks good on the car,” said Sahruddin. Sahruddin's wife, Ruzaimah binti Turut, loves the CR-V for its prestige and affordability, using it as a daily commute to Sekolah Rendah Desa Cemerlang where she teaches English. Even the students at her school found the CR-V impressive. “They said that the CR-V is a big car,” said Ruzaimah.
09
With DREAMS magazine would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Sahruddin for agreeing to appear in this issue. It was indeed a pleasure to chat with Mr. Sahruddin about his love for Honda cars and his favourite dealership, Yong Ming Motor.
With DreamsMr. Mat Sahruddin bin Tamat
Why do you choose to buy your Honda cars from Yong Ming Motor?I always go to Yong Ming Motor as it is a
long-standing and very reputable Honda
dealer. Their sales team is friendly and
when it comes to buying a new car, they
always take the time to explain to me
in detail the merits of the model I’m
interested in purchasing. This simplifies the
buying process, making it pressure-free.
The good customer service doesn't end at
the point of sale either. Each time I send my
car for servicing, they would greet me at the
door and welcome me.
Most of the cars you owned are from Honda. What keeps you returning to the brand? I believe Honda manufactures truly remarkable
cars that feature the latest in advanced
technologies, deliver strong performance,
have plenty of style and offer the look of
prestige. It is perhaps the only brand that
consistently offers exciting performance and
yet somehow manages to ensure good fuel
economy at the same time (such as in the case
of its i-DSi and VTEC models).
You mentioned that the Odyssey is currently your favourite Honda car. What do you like about it?I love its solid and attractive exterior design
that looks more like a sports car rather than
the conventional tall and boxy multipurpose
vehicle (MPV). But most of all, it is the
Odyssey’s cabin that appeals to me most.
When inside the vehicle, I feel like I’m seated
in a far more expensive and luxurious car.
What would be the next Honda that you would like to own?If it’s possible to import one privately, I would
like to place an order for the Honda Crossover.
It’s not available in Malaysia.
Despite the ostentatious exterior, the interior of the Odyssey and the CR-V is left in showroom condition. Although Sahruddin has no doubt that the Odyssey easily fits a number of golf bags with room to spare, he prefers to use the CR-V when he's off to play the game. Leaving the marina, we rode with Sahruddin en route to his favourite dealership, Yong Ming Motor, a short drive from Danga Bay. “I have been buying my cars from Yong Ming since my first Honda. In fact, my father was the first person I know who bought a car from Yong Ming. If I recall correctly, he purchased a 2nd generation Accord before introducing me to the dealership for my first purchase with them. The rest as they say is history. “I like going to Yong Ming because they offer exemplary service from point of sale right up to taking care of my car for regular maintenance,” said Sahruddin. “That is why I have no qualms about helping Yong Ming sell a couple of cars.
Purchasing Honda cars seems to be the norm among your family members too. Does your love for Honda have an impact on their decision to stick with only Honda?Yes, you can say that is true to a certain
extent. However like me, once my family
members began driving Honda for a while,
it didn’t take long for them to be convinced
that no other Japanese marquee offers
them the same level of prestige,
performance and satisfaction that Honda
could. My father-in-law drives a Honda
Accord and both my brothers drive a Honda
too – one has a Civic while the other has a
City. In all, my entire family owns six Honda
cars in total!

Light-hearted conversations shared between Sales Manager Mr. Shamsul Hakim Cheng Abdullah and
Mr. Sahruddin and his wife tell you the relationship they share extends beyond dealer
and customer.
If you live in Johor Bahru and drive a Honda, chances are you’ll be familiar with, if not have the distinct gold and black Yong Ming Motor emblem attached on the boot lid of your Honda. At a glance, the emblem resembles the letters “Y” and “M”, which stand for Yong Ming or ‘Forever Bright’ in Mandarin. A southern region Honda dealer for 35 years, Yong Ming Motor is so popular that virtually every Honda you see in Johor Bahru has its badge. Contributing further to its popularity, Yong Ming Motor clinched the title of Dealer of the Year 2008 in the last National Dealers Convention for Honda Malaysia‘s representatives and dealerships. Yong Ming Motor's showroom may look no different from any other Honda showroom in the country – with its unmistakable metal and glass facade – but you’ll be surprised to know that it’s one of the most well-known and respected Honda dealerships in Johor Bahru. And like many Honda owners, Sahruddin is very appreciative of the exemplary service Yong Ming Motor provides. In addition to offering impeccable service, Yong Ming Motor is also one of the few Honda dealers in Malaysia that provides in-house spray-painting, panel beating and even possesses a towing workshop to complement its showroom, sales and service facilities. Its longstanding experience in the automotive business is testament to its ability to recognise and meet the needs of all customers – at the same time offering a level of service that goes far beyond expectations.

What if vehicles could talk? And what if they could think and react too?Questions like these sparked Honda's research into the Advanced Safety Vehicle or ASV for short – a system that
allows automobiles, motorcycles and electric carts to exchange information such as position, direction and
speed with one another, and respond accordingly. Although still a distance away from achieving its goal of
preventing fatal road accidents all together, Honda is inching ever closer to making this dream a reality.

A Heads-Up Display (HUD) screen visually conveys information to the rider about neighbouring vehicles while the communication helmet with built-in speakers and microphone provides audio warnings. The Haptic seat vibrates and pulses to alert the rider further, while the improved frontal design increases visibility of the motorcycle to fellow motorists.
Drivers are able to access info about vehicles nearby, receive warnings and obtain the latest traffic updates via their Information Display System. Cameras built into the car – able to detect stop signs, line and road markings – allow ASV to calculate if the driver is travelling too fast and issue an audio warning if he or she is.
Similar to cars and motorcycles, electric carts are also fitted with an information display to allow the user to retrieve details about other vehicles in the vicinity and receive audio/visual warnings. Its hazard lights are designed to automatically flash when a vehicle comes too close to the cart.

According to recent road fatality statistics published by the Malaysia Road Safety Department (JKJR), the number of road accidents for 2008 totalled 6,527. Of this amount, motorcycle collisions came up to 3,898 (approximately 60 per cent), car accidents numbered 1,335 (approximately 20 per cent) and pedestrian fatalities equalled 598 (approximately 9 per cent). By adding these figures together, we can see that fatalities for this three groups combine to make up a staggering 89 per cent of all fatal accidents. Shocking statistics like these have made it imperative to develop a safety system that allows motorists to know the positions of other road users at all times. And Honda has risen to the challenge with the ASV.
KNOW YOUR ROAD SAFETY NUMBERS?
ONE GOAL remains locked in the mind of Honda engineers whether they’re designing a new vehicle or developing the latest engine – safety for everyone. That’s because protecting the lives
of not just the driver and passenger(s) of the Honda vehicle, but also the lives of other road users is a responsibility that Honda takes very seriously.
Three main areas govern Honda’s motor vehicle safety protocols: firstly, passive safety, which aims to minimise injuries during an accident, the second is active safety or accident
avoidance, and finally pre-crash safety, which mitigates injuries if a collision is unavoidable. In addition to these practices, Honda also works with local authorities, such as Japan’s Ministry of
Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to develop driving support systems designed to reduce traffic accidents as a whole. Here is where the ASV comes in.
p p g pp y ghere the ASV comes in.
The new FACE design providesimproved visibility to drivers. The new FACE design providesimproved visibility to drivers.
About the ASVThe Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) project began way back in Apr i l 1991 as a jo in t co l laborat ion between H o n d a M o t o r C o . a n d J a p a n ’s M i n i s t r y o f L a n d , Infrastructure and Transport. Now in its fourth phase, a number of advanced safety systems found in today’s Honda vehicles – such as the Intell igent Night Vision, Coll ision Mitigation Brake System (CMS) and Honda Intelligent Driver Support (HiDS) – were the results of the ASV program (see page 15, box story for details).
Honda Accord with ASV-3
In the event that a collision is imminent, the ASV-3 also features an Advanced Mayday response system on-board the vehicle to transmit important details – including location of the accident, vehicle model, deployment status of the airbags, plus 15 seconds of video captured inside and outside the vehicle before and after the moment of impact – to a Honda Operation Centre personnel who will facilitate a rescue. Operators at the Honda Operation Centre are even able to communicate with the driver using two-way voice and video transmission, and monitor his or her vital signs via integrated body sensors found in the driver’s seat.
ASV-3: A Bold Step ForwardIn 2000, Phase 2 of ASV saw the innovative integration of image recognition technologies such as cameras and radar technology into Honda test vehicles. This was especially useful as it empowered the driver with “extra senses” to better detect road obstacles.
Five years after ASV-2, Honda unveiled ASV-3 and it was truly revolutionary. That’s because prior to this, it was not possible for one vehicle to communicate or relay information to another. By introducing two-way communication, vehicles, automobiles, motorcycles and even pedestrians can now ascertain positions of one another in real time. To ensure that drivers easily comprehend the info that’s relayed to them without having to take attention away from the wheel, clear and easy-to-understand instructions are used. This includes audio and visual warnings, coupled with
tac t i l e f eedback such as a v ib ra t ion o f the brake/accelerator pedal and applied force to the
steering wheel. The difficulty that a driver faces in
noticing smaller vehicles like motorcycles and electric carts due to their compact size was also tackled in ASV-3. As research has shown that the human brain exhibits a stronger response when it sees a face, Honda gave its motorcycles a new ‘FACE’ by introducing a design that incorporates a facial pattern (eyes and mouth) to significantly improve compact vehicle visibility to drivers.
But the capabilities of ASV-3 to prevent accidents don’t just end at improving a driver’s sense of his or her surroundings. Advanced support systems incorporated in the ASV-3 such as steering and brake assists also help when a driver’s control of the vehicle alone is insufficient to avert an accident.

ASV is able to obtain info of the approaching vehicle such as position, speed and steering wheel angle even if it’s completely hidden from view, like around a blind curve. If driver is in danger of a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle during lane changing, ASV automatically prompts driver to return to his or her own lane by vibrating the accelerator pedal and applying torque to the steering wheel.

ASV ensures pedestrian safety by notifying drivers when a pedestrian crosses the road. Especially useful when one is completely hidden from the view ofdriver , a portable transmitter worn by pedestrian allows the ASV system to identify his or her location. Cameras built into vehicle then capture photos of the area while ASV analyses these images to obtain the pinpoint location of the pedestrian. Upon locating pedestrian , it visually alerts driver by placing a frame around the figure of pedestrian showed on driver navigation screen. If a risk of collision exists, an audio warning is then sounded to the driver.

Built-in cameras and radar on ASV-enabled vehicle allows it to detect vehicle that suddenly appears from the side, for example at an intersection. If there is a risk of an accident occurring, the system reacts with an audio warning then proceeds to apply light braking and a gentle tightening of driver seatbelt. If a collision is imminent, the system minimises life endangerment by engaging strong braking as well as firm tightening of driver and passenger(s) seatbelts of vehicle . A similar system called the Collision Mitigation Brake System was introduced in the 2003 Honda Inspire in Japan.

When driver is forced to take evasive action because of vehicle or an object suddenly appearing in the path of the driver, the ASV begins by providing steering assist to help driver avoid the obstacle. During evasive action, a reduction in steering input then automatically kicks in to prevent car from turning too sharply. After evasive action, the system helps return car to its original course if the driver is unfit to drive momentarily as a result of shock.

Development of New Systems from ASVSafety systems first introduced in the ASV program were improved and later incorporated in
Honda vehicles with the goal of providing ‘Safety for Everyone’. These include:

Honda Intelligent Driver SupportAs driver fatigue and lapse of concentration are the common causes for most highway accidents, Honda developed the Honda Intelligent Driver Support (HiDS) to help relieve driver stress. It includes the Intelligent Highway Cruise Control (IHCC), which automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and the Lane-Keeping Assist System (LKAS) that prevents lane departure. HiDS was made available in the 7th generation Honda Accord and Accord Wagon, launched in Japan in 2002.
ASV-4: Participation in ITS-Safety 2010With Phase 4 of ASV already underway since 2006, Honda recently participated in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Safety 2010 public demonstration to test the real-life effectiveness of its ASV system. These trials, sponsored by the ITS Promotion Council, took place from 25 February to 28 February 2009 in Odaiba,
Japan, a newly developed area along Tokyo’s waterfront. Honda vehicles on display during the event included
a Japan market Odyssey that came equipped with a state-of-the-art Multi-view Camera System. This system
is designed to help a driver observe blind spots when parking and driving through a three-way intersection or narrow road.
Employing four wide-angle cameras located in the front and rear of the vehicle, as well as on its side mirrors, the
Multi-view Camera System provides the driver with a ful l 360º view via the vehicle’s navigation screen.
A Life mini-vehicle, also on display at the event, wowed visitors with its Honda Smart Parking Assist System that provides automatic steering for moving forward and backward during parking. Lastly, results obtained from Honda’s research into Human Machine Interface (HMI) using vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication optimised for a variety of vehicles including automobiles, motorcycles and traffic situations, was also made available during ITS-Safety 2010.

Collision Mitigation Brake System
Introducing the world’s first Intelligent Night Vision System. Using ‘far infrared’ cameras positioned in the lower section of the vehicle’s front bumper, this system is able to detect pedestrians that approach or are in the vehicle’s path based on human body heat. Able to determine the pedestrian’s shape and size, a visual and audio is sounded to alert the driver of the pedestrian’s presence. This system was made available on the Honda Legend, released in Japan in 2004.
Launched in Japan in 2006, the stylish Monpal ML200 electric four-wheel scooter is one of the first commercial vehicles to adopt Honda’s LONG (Longitudinal Oriented Normative temporal Gap) visibility enhancement design. By incorporating a direction indicator at a prominent position, elevating the tail lamp to a higher location with LEDs that are constantly on, and adding two headlights at a low position plus a reflector in the rear, it significantly improves both driver and pedestrian ability to spot the scooter.
Also a world’s first, the Collision and Mitigation Brake System (CMS) is able to predict rear-end collisions and assist brake operat ion so as to min imise the impact inflicted on occupan ts and the vehicle. By determining the l ike l ihood of a col l ison occurr ing based on dr iv ing condi t ions, d i s t a n c e t o t h e v e h i c l e a h e a d a n d r e l a t i v e speeds, the system uses audio and v isual warn ings to prompt the dr iver to take prevent ive act ion. Constantly pushing the limits of racing technologies, the passion to compete runs deep in Honda’s DNA. Honda terms this The Challenging Spirit, and it represents the unflinching determination to strive and achieve the impossible. Join us as we review the team's performance for the first three races of this year’s Super GT tournament.
MOULDING THE FUTUREIn addition to the development of the Honda attitude, high on the team’s motorsports agenda is also the fostering of new talent. As announced at a recent press conference on 19 February 2009 at the Honda Motor Co. in Japan, part of the team’s racing objectives for this year includes grooming young, talented drivers that belong to the Honda Formula Dream Project (HFDP). This is in hope that these youngsters would one day be able to perform well at top-level races both inside and outside of Japan.
As Honda has chosen to use the same five teams (Team Yoshik i & Dome Project , Keih in Real Racing, Naka j ima Rac ing , Team Kun im i tsu and Autobacs Racing Team Aguri) and cars for this year’s Super GT tournament as last year, the goal remains focused on recapturing double titles (individual and team championships). And based on the results of the three races we’ve seen so far, the future definitely looks bright for Team Honda.
IN THE EYES OF HONDA, nothing puts The Challenging Spir i t to the test more than motor rac ing. Compel led to per fo rm under the most demand ing cond i t ions , the challenges in competitive racing are great, but so are the rewards.
“A must-win att itude drives al l of us (the people at Honda) while we work feverishly towards one common goal: to win the races. It’s a mindset I feel that puts Honda at the forefront,” said Honda Chief Engineer Hiroshi Shirai.

COMING RaCE...
OUR PERFORMaNCE SO FaRBy the end of last year’s tournament, Team Yoshiki & Dome Project emerged top among all Honda teams by finishing fifth among all 16 participating teams. This was followed by Team Kunimitsu (in ninth place), Nakajima Racing (in tenth place), Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (in twelfth place) and Keihin Real Racing (in fifteenth place). For Super GT 2009, the Honda team has seen an improvement in its performance from the first three races of last year. This season’s opening race, which took place at the Okayama International Circuit on 22 March 2009, saw Team Yoshiki & Dome Project and Autobacs Racing Team Aguri take back-to-back second and third positions. During Round Two, held on 19 April 2009 at the Suzuka Circuit, Team Yoshiki & Dome Project once again exerted its
dominance by securing fifth position. Unfortunately, two members of the Honda team, Team Kunimitsu and Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, were unable to complete the race as a result of a collision with the Hasemi Motor Sport team from Nissan. The most recent race, which occurred at the Fuji Speedway on 4 May 2009, saw Autobacs Racing Team Aguri make a dramatic comeback to finish the race strong. Although initially set back by a collision in the early stages of the event, the team was able to regain its composure and steadily gained ground before overtaking Nissan’s HIS Advan Kondo GT-R team during the 69th lap to snatch third place. Honda’s results for the first three races definitely look encouraging and you can be certain the team’s challenging spirit will continue to propel it forward in its bid to recapture double titles.

Not content with just relying on the local media to spread the HDF message, the Honda-UNDP team often ventures deep into the hard-to-reach communities of Malaysia – where newspapers and Internet access have little reach. Last year, the team vis i ted the inter iors of Sabah, Sarawak and Pahang, and spoke to indigenous groups including the Kelabit, Orang Ulu, Tambunan, Bajau, Kayan, Bidayuh and Penans. For 2009, Honda Malaysia has chosen to reach out to underprivileged youths in the rural communities of Kedah, Pahang and Sarawak, as wel l as schools in the Klang Valley. To ensure sufficient time for those interested to apply, the deadl ine for HDF appl ication was moved to15 April 2009 (from 31 March 2009).
“Due to overwhelming response and feedback we received from the (HDF) roadshows, we decided to extend the deadline for the Honda Dreams Fund by another two weeks to enab le more youths to app ly,” sa id new ly appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Toru Takahashi.

The Honda Dreams Fund (HDF) team often travels deep
into rural Malaysia in search of the most deser ving
underprivileged students. This year, the focus was on
Kedah, Pahang and Sarawak, as well as schools in the
Klang Valley.
EXTENDING THE BELIEF in the power of dreams to poverty-stricken but deserving youths, the Honda Dreams Fund (HDF) was introduced in Apr i l 2007 so that they too would have the oppor tuni ty to fu lfi l their dreams. Initiated by Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the program provides full and non-binding scholarships to 20 Malaysian students every year. So far, a total of 40 scholars are currently enrolled in a course of their choice and taking their first steps to achieving their dreams, with another 20 soon to share the same l i fe-changing exper ience. By arming underprivileged youths with a good education, Honda hopes to empower them with the ability to break the poverty cycle.
The road to a brigher future begins here.
Face-to-face is still the best way to reach out to underprivileged youths.

03During uncertain economic times like these, factors such as brand and product credibility play a more crucial role when deciding on the purchase of a car. Even with the auto industry as a whole experiencing a slump in car purchases, Honda Malaysia has successfully recorded all-time high sales figures for the first quarter of 2009. In January, a total of 3,815 Honda cars were sold – the highest number ever achieved in one monthin Honda Malaysia history. Similarly in March, Honda automobilesales rose to 3,905 units, allowing Honda Malaysia to achieve30 per cent of the total sales target for this year of 35,000 units. These impressive achievements have empowered Honda to capture 10 per cent market share of the Total Industry Volume (TIV) for passenger vehicles, as recently reported by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). “In view of the current market situation, it is truly a momentous experience for us to be reporting a series of vibrant results, in fact, from the beginning of the year. And for that, we have no one else to thank but our supportive customers,” remarked Mr. Toru Takahashi, the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
To avoid a prolonged waiting period for Honda cars as a resultof increased market demand, Honda Malaysia will have its production plant operate at full capacity to minimise customers’ inconvenience. Once again Honda Malaysia would like to thank all customers for their continuous support.
