Global Influence from Key Decision MakersMobile World Congress continues to offer thought-provoking content and foster world-class networkingopportunities for senior-level attendees. Senior management (Director-level and higher) attendance was 59%, slightlyhigher to the percentage of senior management attendees in 2017. In 2018 more than 7,700 CEOs attended MobileWorld Congress, an increase of nearly 2,000 from last year. The quality of attendees continues to maintain excellentlevels year over year:

A Diverse Industry Event Led by Mobile OperatorsIn 2018, we continued to attract new attendees to Mobile World Congress including professionals from verticalindustries, consumer brands and developers, while maintaining the core commitment of the mobile network operator(MNO) community. More than 7,000 attendees (9%) from the operator community participated at Mobile WorldCongress, representing a consistent year-over-year number of attendees from MNOs. Industries showing increases inattendees include App and Software Development Vendors, Consultancies and Broadcast, Media and Entertainment.New entries into the top industries include Manufacturing and Automotive. In addition, 2018 marked a continuedstrength in participation of emerging industries. Identified in the table as ‘Other,’ industries such as VirtualReality/Augmented Reality, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare/Bio-Tech, do not individually rank high, butcollectively show the continuing diversification of the mobile ecosystem.

Mobile World Congresscontinues to attract a global audience with 205 countries and territories represented in 2018. Once again, Europe isthe most represented region with 65% of attendees, Asia Pacific continues to be the second-largest region, followedby North America.

Top 10 CountriesThe top 10 countries (or 12, given the similarity at the 8th position) represented at Mobile World Congress continue toremain constant year over year. In 2017 the top countries remain the same as the previous year. Overall, four of the sixgeographic regions continue to be represented in the top 10 countries. Attendance from Spain was again positivelyimpacted by the continued success of 4YFN and additional local appeal.
A commitment to increasing rates of female participationWomen accounted for 24% of all attendees atMobile World Congress 2018, up from 21% in2016. Mobile World Congress is working toalign with the United Nations SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs), including Goal 5:Achieving Gender Equality and EmpoweringWomen, through programmes such asWomen4Tech, which focuses on successfullyaddressing and reducing the gender gap inthe mobile industry.

World's Largest CarbonNeutral TradeshowMobile World Congress was re-certified in July 2017 as carbon neutral by BSI (British StandardsInstitute), verifying that the GSMA successfully completed the certification process under the PAS2060 international standard and that Mobile World Congress had achieved carbon neutrality. For2018, the GSMA focused on further reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint ofthe event, offsetting any outstanding emissions as necessary. The GSMA is continuing to pursuecertification of its offices and events, including Mobile World Congress, for 2018.

The 2018 edition of Mobile World Congress featured one-of-a-kindevents, seminars, and experiences designed to help educate and exciteattendees. These programmes are developed and presented by some ofthe top organisations in the mobile ecosystem.
Women4TechOver four days, the Women4Tech programmechampioned gender equality, demonstrating howdiversity can impact success in mobile and thebroader tech industry. This year’s programmeincluded speed coaching, networking events,workshops, a Mobile World Live TV panel andspecialised MWC Tours, as well as several activitiesat 4YFN. The programme culminated at theWomen4Tech Summit and the Women4TechGLOMO Awards.
4YFNAs always, 4YFN put the focus on the future ofinnovation, giving start-ups the opportunity to bringtheir ideas to the global stage. More than 20,000attendees visited this cutting-edge programme atFira Montjuic, which brought together start-ups,investors, corporations and public institutions todiscover, network, create and launch new venturestogether.
YoMoYoMo: The Youth Mobile Festival in its second yearwelcomed more than 14,000 students, educatorsand industry professionals from across Catalonia andthe rest of Spain. Held at La Farga L’Hospitalet, thiseducational event taught kids about the latest inscience, technology, engineering, design/art andmath (STEAM), encouraging them to pursue careersin mobile and the broader tech industry. YoMo is anevent of Mobile World Congress, held incollaboration with Mobile World Capital.
Global Mobile Awards (GlOMOs)The annual Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs) againrecognised companies and individuals for theiroutstanding achievements in mobile innovation.Across eight categories, winners were honoured foreverything from best content and devices to mobileinnovations for health and education, commerce, andsocial good. The GSMA congratulates all the winnersof the 2018 GLOMOs, which were announced during aseries of ceremonies and live TV presentations onMobile World Live TV throughout the week.

Partner ProgrammesWe collaborated with 34 mobile visionaries as theyexplored how advancements in technology impactsthe ever-changing landscape of mobile. PartnerEvents, Power Hour Sessions, and TechnologyTraining centred around a variety of themes from5G, The Future Service Provider, Content & Media,Sports & Entertainment, Networks and Technologyin Society.
MWC ToursMWC Tours provided attendees with an opportunityto focus their time on topics of interest and gainnew insights and connections. Guided by dynamicindustry experts, attendees were led through themobile ecosystem while being introduced toexhibitors and networking with fellow attendees.Eight topic tours took place in 2018 including 5G &NFV, Emerging Tech, Enterprise, IoT, IoT Security,Mobile Advertising & Apps, Retail & DigitalCommerce and Sustainable Smart Cities.
GSMA SeminarsAt Mobile World Congress, the GSMA hosted arange of seminars designed to provide insights andupdates on key GSMA industry programmes andadvocacy initiatives. Held across all four days of theshow, GSMA seminars focused on topics such as 5Gand Future Networks, Identity and Mobile Connect,the Internet of Things (IoT) and Mobile forDevelopment, among others.
Ministerial ProgrammeThe Ministerial Programme offers a unique forum forministers, regulators, international organisations andCEOs from around the world to discuss keydevelopments and policy trends in the mobilesector. The 2018 Ministerial Programme hosteddelegations from 181 countries and internationalorganisations, including 71 ministers and 85regulatory authority heads, with total attendanceexceeding 2,000 delegates.

NEXTechNEXTech Hall 8.0 showcased the cutting-edgeinnovations that are disrupting today’s mobilelandscape. Forward-thinking companiesdemonstrated a wide array of technologies includingdrones, virtual reality/augmented reality, robotics,cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, grapheneand more.
#CaseForChangeThe Case For Change travelled over 130,000 kmaround the world to capture the most impactfulstories of how mobile is transforming lives. The Caselanded in Barcelona at the GSMA Innovation City,giving visitors the opportunity to join the journeythrough 360 degree video and watch all of thestories so far. Delegates also enjoyed the#BetterFuture Dome – an immersive 360 videoexperience, where users stepped into the world oftwo Case For Change stories – uncovering the impactof mobile for Syrian refugees in Jordan and the life-changing power of digital identity in Pakistan.
SdGs in ActionAs part of the mobile industry’s continuingcommitment to achieving the UN SDGs, the ‘SDGs inAction’ app raised awareness about the Goals, gavethe latest news and updates on progress towards theSDGs, and allowed users to take their own actions.
Mobile World ScholarFor 2018, GSMA introduced the Mobile WorldScholar Challenge, which highlights new andimpactful ideas from the academic and researchcommunities across the globe. GSMA awarded fiveGold Prizes and three Silver Prizes which consistedof cash prizes and the title of Mobile World Scholar.All five Gold Prize winners attended Mobile WorldCongress 2018 as guests of GSMA.

South VillageFor 2018, a new South Village was constructed,providing a brand new entrance pavilion forattendees and quicker access into Mobile WorldCongress. In addition, the South Village offered dailyentertainment, food and beverage options, andhospitality suites making it another great networkingand engagement opportunity for attendees.
NetworkingMWC offered an unparalleled networking experiencefor attendees. From tailor-made open-airNetworking Gardens, to casual Networking LoungesEvents, attendees had a variety of options andsettings to meet and collaborate with professionalsfrom every sector of the mobile industry. Inaddition, MWC once again partnered with LinkedInto provide qualified attendees with a three-monthfree trial of LinkedIn Premium by connecting theirMy MWC and LinkedIn accounts, making it easier tobuild relationships with the right people.
BMW ExperienceThe BWM Personal CoPilot Experience showcased anew dimension – and vision – of autonomousdriving. Attendees had the opportunity to hail theirown car via the BMW Personal CoPilot app andexperienced autonomous driving as it picked themup and took them where they wanted to go!
