CPWS 20-25-30

The remotely-operated Cockerill Protected Weapon Station (CPWS) integrates proven advanced technologies with a range of medium calibre automatic guns (20 to 30mm). The CPWS provides stabilized, survivable, high lethality at low weight. The CPWS significantly increases the operational capability and flexibility of light, high-mobility armoured vehicles. A module-based weapon system, the CPWS is part of the Cockerill® range from CMI Defence.

CPWS 20-25-30ValueCMI Defence is acclaimed for its low-weight, high-impact, weapon systems. CMI Defence takes a innovative yet practical approach to designing turrets and weapon stations, using flexible modular architectures.

The Cockerill CPWS is a remote weapon sys-tem that offers the firepower of a 20-30mm automatic cannon in a package weighing less than one tonne (basic). The system is fully stabilized and offers 24 hour day/night ope-rating capability. Importantly, a vehicle crew man can fully serve and reload the weapon system from under armour.

The Cockerill CPWS provides a uniquely attractive combination of firepower and pro-tection at very low weight. The Cockerill CPWS permits advanced high-lethality to be provided to light and highly-mobile armou-red vehicles.

FirepowerCMI Defence offers tailored weapon systems solutions that meet the ever-developing ope-rationing needs of armed forces worldwide. The company provides new systems as well as full support, upgrade and sustainment of in-service systems.

The CPWS is designed to incorporate the 20-30mm automatic weapon that best meets the User’s needs. For example the atk m242, Nexter, Oerlikon kba in 25 mm and atk m230 lf in 30mm may all be fitted.

The CPWS typically has a total ammunition capacity of 150 medium-calibre rounds, de-pending on the type of weapon fitted.

The CPWS is equipped with a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and can accept a range of addi-tional sub-systems such as grenade laun-chers.

ProtectionThe innovative CPWS concept provides armour protec-tion for both equipment and operator. Using a hatch in the roof of the vehicle, the remote operator can access the weapon system and undertake reloading operations wit-hout exposing himself to hostile fire. The CPWS is equipped with a roof hatch to enable direct observation, external face-to-face contact and evacuation of the crew.Combining a stealth profile and selectable levels of ballis-tic protection, the CPWS makes a significant contribution to vehicle survivability. This may be further increased by additional protection sub-systems such as a Laser War-ning Receiver (lwr).

Fire ControlThe CPWS is equipped with a high-per-formance stabilized day/night (thermal) sighting system for 24/7 operation. The si-ghting system provides the User with a pano-ramic 360° view, independent of turret posi-tion. When used to engage a target, the gun automatically aligns with the sighting system and a digital ballistic computer ensures very high hit probability when firing on the move.

Support ServicesCMI Defence maintains a ‘cradle to grave’ philosophy to the design, development, introduction into service sup-port and through-life support for all Cockerill® weapons systems. This professional support approach optimises the total cost of ownership to the customer throughout the entire service life of CMI Defence equipment. This whole of life support includes:

> Integrated Logistics Support (ILS): all Cockerill® wea-pons systems are designed for maintainability from the outset and are intimately supported during introduction into service to the customer organisation. This includes the development of technical publications, operator and maintainer training development and delivery up to Mas-ter Gunner level, spares and supply chain optimisation, special tools and test equipment, life cycle cost modelling and obsolescence management.

> Through Life Support (TLS): CMI Defence Through Life Support team offers a Maintenance Management In-formation System (MMIS) that allows the customers to optimize preventive maintenance of their weapons sys-tems. It can also provide dedicated in-country support and engineering support for the mid-life upgrade of all Cockerill® weapons systems and for other manufactu-rer’s turrets.

> Training & Simulation: CMI Defence designs and car-ries out world class trainings, encompassing the complete training spectrum. Covering both the theoretical and the practical, these trainings in particular include exercises with live firing and with CMI Defence simulators. The latter can be virtual immersive, mobile, embedded and inter-connected to allow for training at platoon level. CMI Defence also provides sub-calibre training devices for all Cockerill® weapons systems.

> Capability Development: CMI Defence is constantly innovating in order to best anticipate the growing and evolving demands of modern land forces in terms of fi-repower, mobility and protection requirements. These innovations are all with a common objective: to provide the optimal level of capability and support to in-service and new Cockerill® weapons systems.
