Speed of transaction is highly beneficial to merchants during peak periods and can increase transaction volume for merchants and issuers. Customers who typically would sort through their wallet for exact change can wave their dual interface payment card or mobile device over a reader, pay and go.

Globally, dual-interface EMV cards, contact cards which also enable contactless payment, are gaining popularity thanks to their speed and convenience particularly for small dollar, quick turn transactions such as transit fare payments or payments at quick serve restaurants. As the U.S. market migrates to the EMV standard, dual-interface EMV cards will also increase in popularity relative to contact EMV cards.Countries who are leading in the contactless movement are gaining quick acceptance with the activation of payment terminals and mass-issuance of cards to customers. CPI is an early adopter of Visa’s® EMV chip approval guidelines where products certified after January 1, 2016 can be in circulation for as long as 12 years*. Leveraging these longer-life chips, first-moving Visa card issuers can leverage their EMV personalization technology investment for a greater number of years, and it also removes the uncertainties of the “3-year renewal/extension process”.

CPI’s longer-life Visa EMV product solutions include SDA and DDA contact card options and a DDA/CDA dual-interface option. The chips leverage Visa applets compliant with the VSDC 2.8.1 f1 specification and memory sizes that vary from 4k to 16k of EEPROM.
